I Do It For the Fame
Who: Naruto, Ukon
When: 1PM
Where: Cafe Diem
What: The man-date, aka, possible new friends meet up.
Rating/Warning: PG-13 for probable language.

What Ukon hated most about himself was not the fact that he was sick, he had long since (more or less) gotten over that fact. What he hated most was that he used his sickness as a crutch. He did not merely accept it, he used his illness to get what he wanted. It was 1 o'clock now and he had just departed from the offices at the university to finish registering and filling out any last minute paperwork. Apparently the postal service had made a mistake and Ukon had not received important papers he needed to turn in. Which, wonderfully, meant he had to get up and get out of the apartment before twelve. Impossible, said Sakon that morning with a chuckle before leaving for his early class.

Despite what Sakon said, and how the world may have viewed Ukon, he was stronger and more fit than he let on. Playing sick just made life easier in the eyes of those around him.

Now that all those forms were done, turned in and finished, his hand ached from signing his name over, and over, and over. Ridiculous. How hard was it to sign his name once and be done with it? Obviously he was fine with signing his life away to this school. Did they really need him to do it twenty times? Shaking his head at the memory, Ukon leaned his back against a pillar outside of the Cafe, arms crossed over his chest. As usual he was dressed in a light weight, long-sleeved shirt that buttoned up in the front. It was a casual dress shirt, really. Khaki slacks covered his legs, but black sneakers were on his feet. A bag was also slung over his shoulder filled with a folder with information, his emergency shots in case his heart felt like acting up, and some other extra items like a phone and MP3 player.

He wondered what this mysterious Naruto looked like. Ukon had no idea and worried he had just agreed to a "date" and not some friendly meet up. You never knew these days.

He had only gotten a name. At least from what he could remember from the short conversation he had had with the 'Ukon' character he met online. Naruto was always horrid with this sort of thing. Never seeing beyond setting the date, getting there, having fun... And forgetting the main component that came before that special interaction. Knowing just who he was meeting in the first place. A name was nothing without a face and he cursed under his breath when he stepped into the cafe, glanced around, and... for the first time since earlier realized he didn't know at all what he was looking for.

"Dammit," Again, with the cursing. He worked a hand through his hair to scrub at the back of his neck in a nervous manner, nodding to a waitress that decided to step into his comfort zone and then quickly out to tend to another patron. Under his arm was a new script tucked away to be forgotten until a week before the school's mandatory play. After this little venture he would have to run to the other side of the planet [or so he mused] to get to work serving annoying, horrible customers just like that poor girl running about. Frazzled and a nervous muck. He might as well just enjoy this little sidetracking venture while he could, right?

Sense aside, he silently apologized to the young woman before stepping back and filling his lungs. If she was close to the edge already then this would send her over the edge. He only hoped his 'date' didn't mind things a bit loud, "Ukon! I'm looking for an Ukon here! Don't be shy 'cause I got all day. Step right up and claim your prize!"

Several people walked by, but none really looked like the kind of person he thought he'd be meeting. Well, there had been one guy about his age who walked into the cafe. Didn't seem to give him much of glance, though Ukon tried not to be noticed. It wasn't exactly pleasant to have people staring at you in certain situations. His illness was one he would rather avoid.

Still, he crossed his arms until they fell to his side at a shout that leaked out the open door as someone left the cafe. Ukon! I'm looking for...

"Jesus H. Christ," mused the tired young man outside as he slinked off of the wall. With the door still open he walked inside and came up behind Naruto on his right shoulder. Ukon was very tall, several inches taller than quite a few of the people he and his brother knew. It ran in the family, height. But all he could do was shake his head and blink.

"You're worse than my brother," he teased with an unamused tone. On the inside he was laughing, really. "Are you Naruto?"

Let the date being.

The subtle, barely there voice was a shock to him. One that made him jump a bit as Ukon braised by his side and caused him to twitch forward before giving the man a glance. "The one and only. Are you my prize?"

Tall. Pale [from what he assumed was a lack of light and not some horrible, terminal illness]. Dark hair... A lot like another friend of his. Just as pretty, he added mentally. But he knew quite a few 'beautiful' men. He chocked it up to either something in the water or the addition of make-up in their daily lives. His laugh wasn't internal at all. As to what he was laughing about he wasn't about to voice.

He must have looked out of sorts compared to the man what with his shaggy, displaced blond hair and clothes some would consider criminal on school campus. It could be blamed on the traditional 'art student' line, but it was too much of a bother justifying his originality. Hopefully Ukon had an eye for that diamond in the rough exterior Naruto was known for.

A smile spread on his lips then, wide and bright, and he brought his hand out to be grabbed, fingers wiggling, "I can be much worse. But if you treat me nicely I promise to behave. Ok?"

Raising a brow, only slightly amused at the joke, Ukon gave a sigh, a nod, and a small shrug. "I suppose," he said. May as well play along. Naruto was refreshing, if not shocking, in contrast to his brother. It was nice to not have to listen to Sakon's obnoxious attitude all of the time. Though he wasn't sure he wanted to make "friends" with this boy, either.

His attire was not so horrible. Ukon had seen much worse come out of his brother's room, though Sakon recently had tried to clean up his clothes and be more professional. But any paint stains, rips or tears, they did not bother him. If that was who Naruto was then so be it. Ukon merely liked to dress well because at least he could pretend to look good. Nonetheless, he shook Naruto's hand before replying.

"Treat you nice? I don't know..." He smirked and found them a seat near the window. Always one to be cold, he was glad to have the sun rays warm his back.

Yet instead of dribbles of paint it was just a clash and horrible disarray of different articles of clothing he had more than likely grabbed absentmindedly from the floor. Most days started by waking up late and getting out the door as soon as possible so who could possibly blame him? Though Naruto made it work and strutted with as much confidence as anyone else could possibly have. It showed through the way he stood tall and shook that rather cold hand just as he would with a close friend and just as warmly.

Walking towards where Ukon was seated, he let the heavy reading materials slap onto the tabletop before sitting himself. "Pride and Prejudice" was the manuscript of the week. He could only fathom how many bottles of cheap alcohol it would take to get through it...

"That's not all that promising. I like nice things, afterall." There was a waitress approaching them from the opposite side of the cafe and Naruto was already reaching for his wallet, digging casually in his pocket while he spoke, "But you don't seem all that bad so I don't think I'm gonna rethink meeting you all that much. Not yet anyway."

He'd seen worse. Ukon had seen much, much worse than a few clashing colors and strange articles of clothing. Though he had to admit that Naruto did pull it off pretty well. At least he didn't look like he cared in the slightest. That was always the important part of any outfit--not caring who looked at you like you were crazy. Smart kid.

But his eyes wandered from his companion's array of clothing to the script on top of various other texts. His hand turned it round to look at the bland cover, reading the title and author. "Have you read it in English?" he asked. Ukon expected not. It was hard read in Japanese, it was not so easy to do if you were not near fluent in English. "It's more gripping."

Turning the script back around to where it had been previously, Ukon grinned for a moment at Naruto. "Truce, then. Don't act like my brother, I won't act like the insane person I really am." He was kidding, it was a joke. Please do not take him seriously.

Even if he really was crazy deep down on the inside. That was all the past, all of the jail time and danger. He was clean now, aside from the drugs he had to shoot up day in and out to keep him "healthy."

"So, you're a theatre major? Acting or set design? I don't remember if you said, sorry."

As if people staring at him was ever an issue. If only Ukon knew that demented backs tory. But another day, another time, another place, and preferably with much more alcohol. Maybe if somewhere down the line Ukon proved to be more than some guy he met online by chance then, and only then, could he shed some light on his insanity. However, he did laugh when Ukon mentioned his own. At least in the long run the man had a sense of humor. That could be useful.

"I got a system. Movie first, reading last." Truthfully, Naruto's English was broken at best. He could fumble through the script as many times as possible before his brain started to ooze from his ears and he came begging for Tenten's help and guidance. "Read that stack of Hell a couple times and we'll both be too insane to give a damn either way. Trust me..."

Smiling a bit to himself he settled in and tilted his head towards the waitress, muttering 'black' under his breath and waited for Ukon to take his order as well.

"Theater," he said after a moment, leaning forward to flip through a few pages and direct the others attention to the character page outlining the leading cast. Right there on top written in Old English font, 'Mr. Darcy'. Needless to say he didn't seem too approving of the part or even excited. Instead he sighed and leaned back again, leaving the script alone to do as it will.

"To tell you the truth I'd like my major a lot better if I got the parts in the back more often."

Perhaps they were two of a kind, insane minds and all. Mysterious pasts they didn't exactly openly share--Ukon would never share his under the influence of alcohol. He didn't drink. It was not good for his heart, already failing as it was. Maybe once in a blue moon he'd steal a sip from Sakon's beer hanging around the house, but he would never drink even half a bottle or even a can by himself. However, Naruto was welcome to drink all he wanted. Ukon had no problem with drinking other than the fact that it would kill him faster than he already was dying.

"It's easier if you listen to the CD reading of it," commented Ukon. "I listened to it a couple of years ago when I started getting serious about learning the language. You'll go insane far less quickly." Smirking, he glanced up at the waitress and told her he'd like a decaf. coffee, four creams, one sugar. And then his attention was back on the blond in front of him.

"You're going to play Mr. Darcy?" asked Ukon, not sure if he was amused and wanted to laugh or take the other man's hand and wish him the best of luck. "That's tough. But if you'd like a production part, why don't you change majors?"

Under the influence it was far easier for Naruto to open up. He didn't try hard to cover up what he was thinking and felt things going on in his heart and mind with such refinery that the headache the next day couldn't be entirely blamed on too many jello shots. Tenten seemed like the only one that really got it, though. What that foggy, shine in Naruto's eyes really was while completely inebriated. So it might not even work with anyone else. Whether that was the luck of the draw or a curse, however...

"Not 'going'. It was handed to me." He silently appreciated Ukon's voice as he rambled on about the CD and the English... All things that went in one ear and out the other, with bits of information sticking so that he may use it later. Maybe finding the soundtrack wouldn't be such a bad idea. He really did hate bothering his friends to rehearse with him for these dreaded plays.

Shaking his head, Naruto laughed at the idea and waved his hands in front of his face. "Don't get me wrong, I like what I do for the most part! But when you're not getting paid for it it's just annoying. The more lead roles you got here means the more offers on the outside." With that he motioned to the window and the streets just beyond the campus. "I need all the help I can get..."

The coffee was brought and he took his time to nod a 'thank you' to the waitress as well as grab the sugar box against the wall. "But between you and me? I think I just like playing dress up."

How nice. His words would probably merely flutter on by. Ukon tried not to say things unless they were of importance or if he really had to. And here Naruto was, listening, probably pretending to care. Ah well. Some things just were beyond others. Though if it helped him, more power to him. Acting was hard, Ukon recognized that with every bloopers scene or behind-the-set show he'd watched on the television. He'd never be able to do it and nor would Sakon. They had their special places outside of the camera and eye of the viewer.

"I'm sure you'll do fine," said the elder twin as he nodded at the waitress for his drink, also. He wrapped his cool fingers around the Styrofoam cup and let it warm him as best it could. It felt really nice to not be cold.

"You'll get cast in some movie, everyone will see it. You'll be rich and leave us all in the gutter." Every once in a while he could add an optimistic comment or two.

"You got it all wrong. I'd like to be rich and all, but nothing as huge as that!" Didn't that go against everything he was about? Some might question his intentions what with him being known for enjoying the limelight. But there were differences between being the center of attention amongst friends and having cameras in your face. The thought itself sent an disarming shiver up his spine for some odd reason and he took a sip from his mug to calm those awkward nerves.

That aside he still found it in himself to push that bit of conversation aside and chuckle instead, reaching out to bring the script back towards him, "But if you're gonna worry I could promise you I won't leave without saying goodbye. Y'know. If it really matters to you that much."

Listening quietly, Ukon folded his arms on the table and leaned upon his elbows. He understood. Sometimes being that big of a star was just too big for some people, he supposed. Ukon would have liked to be rich, too. Maybe be one of those great doctors that saved hundreds of lives in his own lifetime. In the end, even if he did make millions, he'd have the bad reputation as being a strange sort of doctor. Was he nice? mean? It was so hard to tell sometimes.

"Oh, my heart sores with relief knowing I won't be the last to know." A pale hand touched his chest briefly before returning to its position on the table. He knew it had only been a moment, but he wished their drinks would have come.

A sarcastic one. Naruto had a lot of friends like that and had learned to laugh it off after time. He did that genuinely, looking up from the sugar box he had been fiddling with and smiling at the man in front of him. Ukon wasn't loud and from what he'd seen already, absolutely nothing like his brother. Things were panning out just fine and maybe, just maybe, they would do this again. There weren't many people in Naruto's life that he met more than once. Rare as it was he wouldn't mind a second meeting.

"I didn't mean to break your heart! This is just going so fast. First coffee and now you're cryin' over me." The guy had jokes. That could be appreciated. Not many people had a good sense of humor. "I could take you with me? We could tour the world! Me, a megastar. And you, the trophy wife."
