'Running Errands.'
Minerva del Garda is out for dinner with some of her new associates again, gleaning little bits of information here and there. How funding works in the LOHN is slowly starting to come into focus, but she'll need quite a bit more, and that means more schmoozing in all levels of the organization.

And so she giggles at the lightly veiled genetics-based jokes, and flirts just short of shamelessly, and files away their information, and reminds herself that they will pay.

Tina had decided to take herself out for dinner. With little else to do on a Friday night these days it was as good an option as any. As she followed the hostess to her seat, Tina noticed something. Or rather, someone.

Minnie?

She reached out with her mind a few paces before she actually got within speaking distance.

Minnie kept up her smile at the young LOHN member to whom she was talking.

Tina? Tina for the love of the goddess, stay away from me

...the hell?

What was that about? Tina was confused and honestly a little hurt. She was still trying to sort it out when the hostess lead her to a table...very near to where Minnie was dining with her "friends".

I don't want you near this, sweetie.

"I couldn't agree more," she says with earnestness in her eyes and voice. "Howard needs to be taken down a peg."

Okay, that got her attention and though she didn't visibly look at them, she started paying very careful attention.

Minnie, what the hell are you doing?

Running Errands for Julian. Don't worry about it, Tina. Just enjoy your meal.

Who are these people? Minnie, you know damned well I'm going to worry about it.

Scum. They are scum, Tina. So for now, so am I. And then I'll get out; I promise you.

"But no," she sighs to her dinner companions. "Unfortunately, there's no rules against the way he drags those poor creatures into the spotlight."
"Indeed, Miss Del Garda," one says, nodding his head sadly. "Such a shame. But maybe pressure could be put on the networks."

But Tina knew scum better than Minnie did. It didn't matter how much training Minnie had undergone and how many experiences she'd racked up, Tina had it ingrained in her being how to handle scum. How to play among them. She'd been doing it since she was a child and as she listened a bit to the conversation, Tina started to realize exactly what type of scum they were dealing with here.

"Unfortunately when something is turning a profit all the pressure in the world isn't going to sway a television network. In fact, it might encourage them. Scandal sells every bit as much as sex." Minnie might catch it, the slight shift in carriage and tone. Tina was going to work.

"I'm sorry to be rude. I just couldn't help but overhear."

What are you doing? Minnie's horrified. Minerva del Garda just raises an eyebrow.

There's much nodding to concede the point, and staring at the new girl.

Something I'm fairly certain Julian would appreciate...making sure you're okay. Trust me, Minnie. I can do this.

"If you really want to get the show off the air it would have to be for something that was just a gross affront to family values. The usual sort of thing...only amplified to the extreme."

You don't have to... and please don't encourage these idiots into anything they might actually use to ruin those kids' lives.

"And how on Earth are we supposed to affect what they put in their dangerous nonsense?" Minerva asked.

There aren't enough brain cells in this collective of people capable of coming up with something myself or Julian couldn't see coming a mile away. Telepathy for the win.

Tina shrugged.

"I have no idea. I know what works, not how to create it. And more than that these are mutants. It's a different game. Your best bet isn't so much to get them pulled from the air that way but rather to push other programming until their ratings drop enough that they become blase."

Okay, good point. Seriously, the ways to hurt Julian and those kids they haven't been able to put together.

There's nodding all around.

"There's something to be said there," Minerva says. "...of course, a slow slide into the mediocrity he deserves won't keep Howard from coming back."

"Lucky thing Aaron's working on that," one of the men says.

Oh, he's the scummiest of them all, Tina. And he does have brain cells. And the things he said about Julian, and poor Mr. H....I wanted to claw his eyes out.

Then Aaron is the one we run our game on. Shouldn't be too hard to find what drives him and how we can shut that down. I can get close to anything.

It was so easy, to slip back into that mindset. It was like putting on a pair of comfortable jeans.

"One really just has to knock him down enough for a phase two to go into effect. Really. He's just a man with a sad proclivity for mutants." She flashed a smile. "That's a disease in and of itself."

I've been getting in close. He likes me all right, but his daughter...well, it's either the 'can't play a player' cliche, or she's just envious of my shoes; it's a hard call.

The table all smiles agreeingly. Minnie hates them so.

"You should come to one of our next events, Miss," says one of Minnie's tablemates.

Do we need to run the divide and conquer technique? Worked that one time. And your shoes are fabulous.

"I'd love to. But you'll have to tell me when they are." She smiled broadly and warmly. "Christina. My name is Christina."

Maybe. Could be good. But Julian was very clear. Once I have all the information about their financial network and arms resources, or at the first sign that things have gone horribly wrong, it's time to clear out.

"We'll get you our calendar, Christina. So nice to meet you."

I can't believe Julian sent you in here without telepathic cover. Remind me to have words with him about this.

"I'd very much appreciate that. And it's lovely to meet you as well. So nice to encounter rational people."

I'm a big girl. I've worked very hard on the cover identity. Well, if you're going to be mixed up in this, you can't talk to Julian for a while, or any public mutants or 'mutie-lovers.'

There's a touch of loneliness that sneaks into her psychic tone before she shakes it off.

You are too precious to be sent out on something like this alone. Excellent cover or no, you know how badly I would react to harm befalling you. And so does he. It would appear that I am in this now. We'll try to keep my involvement brief.

It's no big deal. Okay, it is, but it gives me something to do. My usual cohorts haven't had much going on and my boyfriend's in another time zone with very little time for me. This gives me something to do other than eat ice cream and brood.

There's a touch of wry laughter in her mental tone. Throw yourself in a den of vipers to avoid giving yourself cavities. I love you, Tina

And the carefully veiled bigotry continues until Christina's been supplied with the schedule for the next event.
"There's going to be dancing."

I know vipers. I hate dentists

"Wonderful! Thank you...I do so enjoy dancing. Thank you all for inviting me. I look forward to it.

She smiles at them all.

Oh this is perfect.

"I should go. I hate to leave great company, but I have a long day ahead. Great to meet you all."
