I have a sneaking suspicion that Caspian misses you when you aren't around. He does this weird thing where he runs around in circles on the rug in my room until he falls over. I think I have a narcoleptic cat. And he is only narcoleptic when I'm around. Am I really that dull?

On second thought, don't answer that.

Anyway, I thought I might write to see how you were doing. I'm perfectly capable of walking over to your dorm to see for myself, but I wasn't sure if that was Allowed. Besides, it's been a while since I wrote a real letter and I thought you might appreciate it.

Well, I know this was short, but I'm a man of few words, so I suppose I'll just end it here. Until we meet again, little girl.

I just wanted to tell you I had a lovely time at lunch the other day. The Senator nearly lost his rag about me showing up fifteen minutes late, but I managed to make it sound like I got trapped in a meeting with one of the other departments and he let me off without so much as a warning. Am I manipulative? Certainly. But only for the best of reasons. I couldn't get you in trouble, after all! He's so hard on you as it is.

There's this lovely intern who works for one of the other senators that I ran into the other day. He (!!!) was terribly charming and nearly made me forget how pathetic I felt the other day at lunch. We had coffee together in the break room. His name is John Brown. A perfectly boring name, as far as I'm concerned, but still! I thought you might be interested.

Well, it's terribly late and I should really be in bed... especially since I need to be out of bed by seven o'clock. Ugh.

Dear Lydia,

I'm not so sure how I feel about pet names. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think it's adorable that you asked, but I kinda like your name. And I kinda like my name. JT and Lydia go better together than Shmoopy and Sugarlips. Or... something. Please don't use those. If you ever call me Sugarlips I think I'll die. I know I'm being, like, a stodgy old man, but seriously, Lyds. (Lyds! I like that.) No pet names. Please?

Also, I'm not so sure it's a good idea for you to eat twelve cookies like that. You bounce off the walls enough as it is. You're probably giving poor Oma a heart attack. Tell my other favorite girl I'd love to come over for dinner. And no salt on the schnitzel, please. I think I nearly had a stroke after the last time. Ha ha ha. Let me know when you want to go down to the river. We can have dinner after that, yeah?

Dear Wendy,

You are not home right now but I just wanted to let you know I got the groceries like you said to. I also got you a candy bar because I had an extra dollar and I thought we could have them after dinner. What are you making for dinner anyway? I'm sort of in the mood for something with cheese.

I met this guy in the grocery store today and he was such a jerk! He wouldn't move out of the way and then he told me I should respect my elders but he wasn't much older than you and me. So then I knocked his cart out of the way and that was the end of that. I would like to challenge him to a fencing match. He's so old, I bet his reflexes are awful. And he was staring at the olive oil, Wendy. How boring!

Okay you're home now so I'm going to give you this letter and maybe help you with dinner. Do you need help with dinner?
