Kendall!
"They'll be here."

The words were spat at the persistent waitress who kept asking her if she was sure her guests were going to arrive. It seemed that her accent became more pronounced when she was agitated, but she had good reason to be annoyed. Anya Kalinnikov was not the kind of woman who tolerated being forgotten about, and it seemed as though not one but two men had decided their lunch meeting was not important enough to remember. Kevin Broadmoor had arranged this meeting, wanting to discuss 'her career and where she saw herself with the Falcons this upcoming year'; his words exactly. He told her his brother would also be joining them, so she had anticipated something big. For two members of management to want to meet with her, it had to be something good, right? They would be fools to decide she was no longer a fit for the team, especially since she had earned herself the spot of captain for the Russians in the World Cup. That was nothing to sneeze at, and she had actually gotten a little excited to sit down and share her thoughts.

As far as she was concerned, she would have made an amazing captain for the Falcons. She had the experience, and had the determination needed to produce results. She thought maybe this meeting would end with them toasting in celebration of some good news - hell, even a raise would have been nice - but instead, she was left sitting alone at a table in the middle of the fancy Italian restaurant. She had arrived early, and they just...they didn't even send an owl to let her know they would be late.

She had been sitting there for over an hour, and she was certain she looked quite pathetic sitting there, fiddling with the napkin in her lap. She frowned, though she eventually let out a sigh before leaning forward to rest her head in her hands.

This was so embarrassing...

With the season over, and having not made the world cup team, Kendall found himself with an abundance of time on his hand. It was quite annoying actually, having all this time to think on the last two months. What he said to Rose. What she said in return. Thomas not believing him. Or rather, thinking that Kendall didn't know what he felt, in which he might have a point. But Kendall was certain that all encompassing feeling he got when ever he was alone with her could be nothing else.

But she had made herself very clear, so now Kendall needed to move on. Sort himself out before he could even think of facing her again. Christmas was bad enough as it was, the topic of him kiss her was never brought up and he was sure they had only made eye contact twice. So Kendall was hiding out in the last place his friends would look for him.

Being in Falmouth was the last thing anyone who knew Kendall would expect, him finding the nicest restaurant in town shouldn't surprise anyone at all. He was waiting for a table to free at the bar when he first noticed her chasing off a waitress. Anya Kalinnikov. He had never spoken two words to her, but that didn't mean he didn't know who she was. It wasn't every day that a woman played for the Falcons. As a beater no less. It said countless things about her abilities as a player. What he would have given to be in his father's house when that trade went through, just to see the shades of red cross his face. And again when she proved him wrong on every count he ever said about women players.

Even not knowing her outside of the times she has tried to knock him of his broom, Kendall knew she deserved more that to be some git who didn't know how to treat a lady proper. Standing, he quickly made his way across the room claiming the seat across from her as his own. "Sorry I am late," he said just as the sour faced waitress returned. "Please do forgive me."

Her brows furrowed together as she heard the chair across from her scratch against the floor, indicating that someone was pulling it from beneath the table. She dropped her hands down, preparing to shoot a glare that could turn a man to stone at whichever man had decided to show up, though when she noticed which Broadmoor was sharing her table, her features softened and she blinked. Well, this was certainly an interesting and very unexpected development. A brow lifted as he apologized for being late, though when she realized he was doing it to shut up the waitress, the corner of her lip upturned into a pleased smirk.

"I think i might be able to muster up some forgiveness for such a pretty face." Her eyes turned to focus on the waitress, her shoulders straightening up, her pride returning. She was still annoyed that her original guests hadn't shown up, but at least now she wouldn't be seen leaving a restaurant alone after waiting by herself at a table for such a long time. "I think my guest and I could use a glass of water." Once the waitress was out of earshot, Anya lifted an elbow onto the table, resting her chin in her palm as she focused on him.

"My knight in shining armor," she commented with another smirk. "Did your father send you?" She couldn't understand why he would, seeing how Kendall played for a different team and would have little to do with the Falcons, but for him to be in the right place at the right time was just...well, in her experience it didn't happen very often.

Kendall couldn't stop his laugh at her question. "My father? No, certainly not." The idea of him running an errand, doing a favor for any male Broadmoor, well he thought that was a universally ridiculous idea. "No, if anything I'm going to get a Howler tomorrow for having the audacity to talk to a Falcons player, and in Falmouth of all places." Not that his father or uncle knew much about being sportsman like, and would be the first to snake a player out from under you, but that didn't mean they didn't bitch if someone tried the same.

"Is that who you were suppose to be meeting? I guess I was right, definitely a git who doesn't know how to treat a woman right." Kendall rolled his eyes not surprised at all.
He shook his head slightly pulling the napkin from the table and dropping into his lap as he looked over the menu. He long since stopped being surprised at how much of a prick his dad could be to him, but Kevin loved the Falcons so to see him treat one of the players like this. He just shook his head again.

"What a waste of your time when you should be prepping for the world cup... well the afternoon is still salvageable. Let me buy you lunch?" He wasn't sure where the offer had come from, but he certainly had the desire to prove to her that not all Broadmoors were assholes.

Her head tilted to express curiosity, a grin appearing as he explained what his father's reaction would be to him talking to her. "And yet here you sit, in his place." It was certainly saying something, him sparing her public humiliation despite his father's thoughts on the Falcons fraternizing with the enemy. It wasn't until he started speaking poorly of his father, going so far as to call him a 'git' did she get the impression that things were not all hugs and kisses within their household.

"And you do? Know how to treat a woman right, that is." She studied him for a moment longer, lips pursing together as she tried to figure him out. They had never spoken before this, so she didn't know what to make of him. It wasn't until he mentioned the world cup that she smiled again, leaning back in her chair before slender digits reached for her menu. She had dreamed of winning the world cup since she had been a child, and now "It's not often a player from an opposing team offers me lunch. I would be foolish to turn down such a generous offer." Besides, she was starving, and he was proving not to be terrible company. He was nice to look at too, so that certainly didn't hurt.

"You didn't sound very surprised to learn your father had...what's the term? Stood me up?" She really would never understand the English language, but she tried. "If I told you your uncle is also a guilty party, would you be any less surprised?" She looked at him from over her menu. "Or are you the only decent man in your family?"

"Well, I'd like to think so. You'll have to let me know how I am doing." Kendall quipped giving Anya a charming smile, putting his menu on the table. Honestly, he felt he did terribly with women. Sure, he could flash them a pretty smile and get most giggling with just a few compliments, but when it came down to an actual conversation he tended to flounder a bit more.

"Ah, don't think I won't take the opportunity to try and steal you away though." He said honestly. Who wouldn't want a world cup captain playing for their team.

Kendall fidgeted as she brought up his lack of surprise to the situation. He had no issues hiding his personal distaste for his father but there was only so much he was really willing to say on a professional level. There was no point in trying to even pretend to act surprised that his uncle was also suppose to be here. "I have a very personal and biased view on that stand point. I would hate to sway your opinion of your management team."

He stopped as the waitress returned with their waters, waiting until she left with their orders before speaking. "But on a completely professional level? I will say this, you are one of three women to play for the Falcons in the last twenty years, for sure, possibly more. Kate was the first I remember," and he remembered that so clearly because he didn't hear the end of that for months. "And never has there been more than one woman on the team in any given season. So, no, unfortunately I am not surprised."

"So far so good," she assured him with a wink and a smile of her own, her eyes leaving those pretty blues in order to skim over the menu. He regained her attention when he spoke of stealing her away, and she let out a laugh. "I would love to watch you try, milen'kiy."

She knew she was a talented player - she worked her ass off for everything she had, and she had actually cried when she found out she would be captaining the Russian team. She couldn't remember the last time she had cried over anything, but Quidditch was her life. If the two men who hadn't shown up didn't hold her career in the palms of their hands, she might not have minded so much. This wasn't just a personal slight.

When the waitress came back to take their order, she ordered the last thing she had seen on the menu, not having been paying very close attention to what her options were. She was much more interested in the man sitting across from her. He was younger than she was, and a talented seeker, there was no doubt about that, but he was already a captain and the idea was enough to turn her green with envy. True, she was about to be a world cup captain, and she was so incredibly proud of that accomplishment (being titled as the best beater of the season was also something she was proud of), but management still didn't think she was a good fit for their team. It was infuriating, though she had never doubted her gender had something to do with it. He was only solidifying that suspicion. She rested her elbows on the table again, her fingers lacing together, resting her chin on her knuckles.

"I have been playing amongst men my entire life. In my country, I was one of 5 women in the league, and the only to play my position on the field. The fact that my country has chosen me to be captain is a true honor. I know that being a woman can have its disadvantages in the world of Quidditch, but it just gives me all the more reason to want to prove wrong those who think I am any less skilled than the talented Falcons who soar beside me. If I wanted to be just another woman who plays Quidditch, I would have stayed on the Harpies. Willow's screeching was all the more reason for me to move to a team where I thought my talents would be appreciated."

"Are they though?" Kendall asked genuinely curious. "From my stand point, you are being taken for granted." He felt bad for making the point, but he would certainly never leave one of his players sitting at a nice restaurant during the busy lunch hour without a word they weren't going to show. Neither would his management team.

"You deserve better," he said matter-of-factly, shrugging his shoulders slightly. Anya was ambitious, Kendall could see that clearly. And he wouldn't put it past his father and uncle to wave the perpetually empty captain spot in front of her just to get her to stay another season. Even if they had no plans to give it to her. Whatever this meeting was suppose to be about, it was most likely filled with false hope and kind, patronizing words.

"And the real question is, if you play for the Falcons for the next five seasons, will you be where you thought you'd be in your career?"

Her jaw clenched a bit as he shared his opinion, her line of vision falling from making direct eye contact with him. She might have gotten defensive if he wasn't saying what she had been feeling for quite some time. That was what was really getting to her. She barely knew Kendall, and yet he was hitting the nail on the head. She was definitely starting to feel as though she were being taken for granted, but had never voiced how she felt. She reached out for her glass, taking a sip of the cool water she had the waitress bring earlier.

You deserve better.

Those olive eyes, speckled with hues of gold and honey, lifted to meet the bright blues of the man who was trying to convince her that playing for the Falcons might not be the best idea if she had plans to further her career. Again he was speaking aloud things she had never mentioned to anyone else; she thought she was just being irrational. She did have a tendency to do that, especially when she felt she deserved something.

"Are you saying that I could be where I want to be in my career with the Wanderers, Mister Broadmoor?" She asked with a laugh. She was sure he hated being called that, but since he was speaking like a business man, she would address him like one. "You fail to see how this could be...problematic. See, you are the person who would be in the way of what it is I really want." She pushed her shoulders forward a bit, making the conversation a bit more intimate. "I do deserve more; I want more. And I like getting what I want."

Kendall managed not to make a face at being called Mister Broadmoor, he didn't like it, but it wasn't the first time he's had to deal with it. And her laugh didn't throw him off either, as he was almost expecting it. Instead he just smiled at Anya, taking a sip of his own water. "I fail to see nothing. I know exactly what you want. I'm not giving up my captianship, but at the same time, I'm not going to lie about it, or leave you sitting alone all while toying with your hopes and dreams." Kendall put his glass, leaning in slightly. "And besides all that, I never said it was with the Wanderers, just that it wasn't going to be with the Falcons."

He sat up straight again as their food arrived, breaking what ever sort of tension that was building. Stabbing a fork into his food, Kendall tried to figure out just what he was doing. This all started as just being nice, saving Anya from having to suffer the embarrassment of being stood up. And now here he was trying to convince her to come to the Wanderers, or at the very least leave the Falcons? It bothered him they way the Falcons were run, that was nothing new, but he had never tried to undermine the team in such a way.

But then again if you are going to leave the Russian World Cup Captain sitting alone at a table for hours, you were just asking for someone to come and steal her away. "I am being rude." He said finally, looking up to Anya. "I'm sorry, I really don't have much of a right to sit here telling you what you should do with your career. For all I know the Falcons could suit you just fine, even without being Captain."

He took a bite of his lunch, chewing thoughtfully for a moment before speaking up again. "How about we discuss the World Cup instead? How excited are you to be leading Russian team in the greatest tournament of the game?"
