Test Scene
Guns shots echoed in the night, and then a man screamed in frustration. He threw his gun, now useless with the arrow clogging the barrel, to the side and lunged at the Green Arrow. It was simple for Ollie to sidestep and chop the guy in the back of the neck. "Lights out," Ollie said. The crook collapsed, and Ollie went about tying him up with one of his trick arrows. He didn't use them as much anymore, but they always proved useful every so often.

It wasn't long before the police arrived on the scene, but Ollie was already gone. He was cruising the city streets, looking to clean up more crime. Crooks were something he never did enjoy in His city.

No matter how well Hal knew Star City or Ollie, finding the guy was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

No, scratch that. Needles were /easier/. The ring could get him into a general area, but finding Green Arrow would take some work. Lucky for Hal, Ollie tended to leave a trail.

After following Ollie's trail of beaten criminals for a bit, Green Lantern waits for a break in his old friend's activity to float down and hover a few feet behind him, keeping his shield up.

"So, if I get married next year, is my best man going to get up on stage and talk about the dog I used to be or the one-woman man I've become?" Hal asks jovially.

	OF course Ollie was alert, and the first sound Hal made cause him to turn around with an arrow knocked and ready to fire. He returned the arrow to his quiver when he saw who had shown up. "A little bit of both, I think," he replied with a cheap grin. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Yeah, Hal was /really/ glad that he decided not to drop his shield right away, even if he knew Ollie wouldn't fire on him. There was something a bit darker about his old friend, though Hal couldn't have said what.

"Well, if you plan on doing that, let me know so I can cover Carol's ears. Or run. I'll take either of those." Hal chuckles, returning the grin.

"How are things with Dinah?" he asks.

	"Make a run for the hills," he replied heartily. "Everything with Dinah is great," he said. "Not a single bump in the road." That is, of course, saying that Ollie hadn't done anything to screw it up. He had a great thing going with Dinah, and he really felt close with her. He loved her. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Too slow," Ollie replied. He got more serious all of the sudden. "I don't like how quiet it's been getting in Star City. If I felt like things were getting better, then maybe I'd think differently about this. But I don't. I feel like something big is coming, Hal, and they're just waiting to take advantage of it." Hal knew that, for all of Ollie's bluster, Ollie could be as deadly-focused as Batman when it came down to it. If Ollie had a bad feeling about something, it wasn't just paranoia talking, unlike some people...even if some people tended to be right an alarming amount of the time.

"What do the others think about this? Or are you keeping this under your hat for now?" Hal asks.

"You don't have to go at this alone, Ollie. If there's something going on and you want to handle it, just say the word and I'm in." Hal says.

	"I don't need the League in on this, Hal," Ollie said. "They're too big to understand what really needs to be done, and I'm not about to let Star City become some pet project. "You didn't ask. I offered." Hal grins. "I won't push, but don't wait until things get too crazy before you call me, Ollie. If I'm on the planet, I'm here to help." he says, turning to look out over the Star City skyline.

"But I wasn't talking about the League, Ollie. I meant Dinah and the others. Have you told them about what you're thinking? If I remember right, she doesn't take kindly to being kept in the dark." he says.

"I didn't want to worry Dinah, but I figure she already knows something is wrong. And I don't want to get Mia, Roy, or Connor involved. Not until I have a better grip on the situation." "Take it from a guy who had to die to get the message: family is important, as is the woman you love. Carol's been great, but she's still in shock and she's waiting on me to revert to old habits." Hal says, sighing deeply.

"I don't blame her, either. I didn't always treat her well and I just asked her to marry me. She wants to wait a year and see where things stand." Hal tells him.

"Meanwhile, my meeting with the League went...pretty much like you said it would. Arthur, J'onn, Diana, Zee and Clark all let me speak. Bruce scowled and basically tried burn a hole in my chest with his eyes." Hal says.

"But I'm back with the League, even if they're now minus a Bat."

	Yeah, and Ollie had to be the one to kill him. That memory still didn't sit well with him. "Oh, you were serious about the marriage? Congratulations." He smiled. But it turned into a frown after Hal finished talking. "I'd like to say I'm surprised that he quit, but I'm not. He can't always be right, and he turns the other cheek when somebody proves it." "Carol did a double take when I asked. I made her chili. Your chili. I don't think she thought I could cook until then." Hal smirks.

"Yeah, and I hear he's been cutting himself off from everyone, too. I remember that he was always insular and distant, but the way everyone is talking now, it's like he's Batman full-time, even without the mask." Hal says.

"Do you think all psychos he's faced over the years are starting to take their toll on him?" Hal asks.

"Oh, she's going to say yes. It's just a matter of time." Hal tells his friend.

"Well, I'm just saying that I know where it could lead. You remember how I was after Coast City, back then. I was doing a lot of the same things and I was pushing away everyone who wanted to help me. By the time everyone stood up to intervene, it was too late.

I was already out of control." Hal says, remembering each of the events that led to his fall, to Parallax being able to make him afraid of failing, of being wrong, of being afraid.

"I'm not going to let Batman worry me, but I'm also not going to stop hoping that he'll fix whatever issues he's got and rejoin the League, even if it's part time.

I know how /you/ feel about the League losing its way...but have you thought about talking with the others? I'm sure they'd love to have you back, even if it's just on Reserve. Besides, Diana already asked if you and Dinah are coming to the Christmas Party and you /know/ she'll fly out here and ask if you don't respond." Hal chuckles.

"That's just what I need. Wonder Woman chasing me down the streets of Star City." He laughed at that. And for a Christmas party, of all things.

"I haven't talked to any of them. I've got too much to worry about here to get wrapped up in League business." Besides, what good did him being on the League do anyway? How could he represent the common man while strutting around with the big britches? "I'll think about being on reserve, Hal. But there's no way I'm going back full-time.

As for Batman--he's never going to let himself fall that far, especially after chewing you out for it."

"She'll do it, too, and you know it. Wonder Woman isn't timid, especially not about the Christmas Party." Hal says. Diana's zeal for a great Christmas Party was well known.

"Well, as long as you don't forget that you've got friend, Ollie. No one was meant to do what we do alone. Someday, I think--I hope--that even Batman will understand that." Hal says.

Maybe he was being naive, but Hal believed anyone who wanted to change could do so, if they worked at it and never gave up.

"You've probably got a busy night ahead of you and I've got to go talk to Carol. I have to show my face on Oa sometime, and she's going to try to talk me out of it.

She doesn't like being kept in the dark, either. You've got my number, though." he says.
