1. Avia didn't need Rex's help to get a date, but damn if Will /still/ wasn't getting the picture that Avia wanted to go out with him. The plan seemed insane when she explained it to him, but Rex wanted to help the pair, so he accepted.
2. Granted, Hope didn't seem thrilled by the idea, but Rex couldn't figure out why. He had yet to tell Hope how he felt about her, refusing to acknowledge the parallels between his and Avia's situations.
3. Avia "just happeend" stop by the Brownstone to see Rex, knowing that Will would be in attendance. They made certain to announce the time, date and location of their "date" so that Will could hear.
4. On the night of their date, Rex arrives and puts the finishing touches on their plan at the restaurant. Then, he calls Will and explains that he's "helping Nic out with something" and can't get in touch with Avia, as she's not answering her phone. He asks Will to fly out to New York and let her know he can't make it.
5. After informing Avia that she owes him /big/ for this, Rex heads back to the Brownstone to let Will take his place for their evening out. The following day, he hears that it went well and decides that if Will can overcome his fear and enjoy Avia's company, then he can do the same.
So he calls Hope.
