Homework really sucks.

"We did in basic training with Wog. And I did once before with my dad, but I was too young to remember it." He shrugs. "We can do it."
"Only the most experienced of Blue Lanterns can do it on their own.. I've been intimidated by it in the past, but as of late.. I've been feeling much more confident." Avalon shares. "Then again, it wasn't until they made us partners and I came to Earth that I really got to take control of all my powers. Most of them won't work without you near." he smirks, "That's how Malicor got me.. I couldn't even blast his sorry butt."
"Yeah," Henry replies, "but you boost me up a ton when you're around, and you're still more powerful than me when I'm around." Henry smiles at his partner. "That's why we work better together than solo."
"Only in a different way." says Ava with a wink.
He sighs, then lets his head bonk on the counter as he groans out loud. "Oh god, I just remembered I have a math test." he then moans. "How did you manage all this stuff before?" he then asks, looking at Henry. "I mean, it's one thing to be a space cop. It's another to have homework due. It's a completely other problem if your homework is due while you're out saving the universe. I have no idea how you've managed."
Henry chuckles. "I made myself do it," he replies. "Willpower, remember? If I didn't manage good grades, I never would have been allowed the ring. The one thing my dad insisted upon." He gives Avalon a wink. "Besides, it just left me with a lot of energy as soon as I was done, and we all know what I like to do with that..."
Snorting one, Ava uses a wing to poke at Henry's side, his expression turning wicked once more. "Your mind lives in that place, Henry." he then teases. "I dare say that you raise, occasionally, to the gutter and then descend once more to your usual depths once enough ammunition has been spied."
He smiles and leans back against the fridge, propping his hands behind his head. "It's a talent," he replies.
Suddenly inspired, Avalon hops up to his feet and gives Henry one of those smiles that could melt ice. He takes his glass to the sink, and runs some water into it, all the while his ocean eyes are on Henry. He's flirting in his subtle way, and in many ways he's testing to see if Henry notices.
"It is indeed a talent." he agrees in a voice that's just a touch breathy.
Henry notices alright. He gives a cautious glance back out of the room, to make sure his father is still busy.
Then he glances back with a smile. "Hey... no elbowing in on my territory."
Avalon just gives a laugh and raises a brow, his smile turning more into a naughty smirk. It's a quiet sort of joy for him that Henry is apparently learning to read him better, and that shows in the warmth of his smile.
"Oh, so there's not room for more in your gutter? That's an awfully narrow gutter, I would say. Is it a tight fit for you, Henry? I always saw you as a person who needed ample room to let their gutter run wide and free." he then asks, his voice turning to a low purr. He happens to know (thanks to his empathy) that Hal is still in his room. That's quite a way from the kitchen.
Henry nods, stepping closer. "You know how I like my gutters," he replies.
The ridiculousness of the conversation makes Avalon giggle softly, and he bites on his lower lip with his teeth to keep from making too much noise. Instead he pads over towards where Henry is standing, and lightly reaches out to trail his fingers along Henry's side.
"Well. Thankfully you are quite adept at navigating them as well.." he then says with a bit of a smirk.
"I know my way around," he replies with a smirk, letting Avalon's fingers trace his side. "Good thing you know how to come down to visit me every once in a while."
"I try.." replies Avalon with a smile. He then shrugs his shoulders some, his tone soft as he says "I would come more often but I don't want to be selfish with you.. I tend to wait until I know that Josh and Kat have had some time before I come knocking.."
"Trust me," Henry replies. "I could see each of you twice a day, and I'd be fine. You can come by whenever you want."
That just makes Avalon smirk all the more, and his tone is soft when he replies "I shall have to keep that in mind, then.. I guess that in the end, my consideration was only hurting myself more than it might have been helping?"
"Depends," he whispers, leaning in closer. "On what you want me to do when you visit."
Good thing for wings. Avalon pulls one up a bit so that the two of them are blocked from being seen from the doorway, and then leans in a touch so that he's not quite totally within Henry's personal space.. but he's certainly encroaching. Avalon's heart is in his throat though - the danger of getting caught somehow makes it all the more enthralling.
"I could name a few things.." he then says softly, "Although you are usually more entertaining when left to your own devises."
Henry grins as his partner's hands move close, and he swallows. "Maybe so, but I like knowing what you like..." His hands begin to brush through Ava's feathers, very gently...
The touch of fingers through feathers makes Avalon shudder, and he doesn't bother hiding the reaction Henry draws from him as he usually does. Henry knows his weaknesses, and usually uses them to their full advantage against Avalon - not that he minds in the slightest.
Ava's hand on Henry's side slides up a bit, his fingertips dragging lightly over the fabric. "That's part of the beauty of how things work between us now that we speak the same language. You instinctively know.." he all but whispers.
"I'm... not as good with the spoken word as I am with the body," Henry shudders, leaning down towards him for a slow, gentle kiss, while his fingers tend to brush against Avalon's feathers, slowly, seductively...
It's easy to give in to Henry's kisses, and Avalon's lips murmur a soft little happy sound just before their lips press press together. He doesn't reach out to hold Henry, so much as his wings gather around them, the stiff primary feathers pressing along Henry's sides and calves.
That is, until they hear a fairly familiar thump followed by footsteps above their heads. Dad is on his way down!
Henry breaks the kiss immediately, making his clothes seem unrumpled, as he puts the milkshake glass in the sink and begins to rinse it with water.
Avalon blinks at Henry's sudden retreat, but then starts to giggle. Which he quickly quiets. While Henry goes to the sink, Avalon slips onto a stool and props his head into a hand, right as Hal turns the corner and walks into the kitchen. Luckily he doesn't suspect anything.
"Hey guys." Hal says with a bit of a smile. He heads for the fridge, aiming for a can of soda.
"Hey, Dad," Henry greets. "Just taking a break from the homework for a shake." He quietly exhales a bit of stress while Hal grabs his drink then heads back upstairs.
Henry turns to Avalon once Hal is gone, and he begins to laugh, trying to keep it as quiet as possible. |
