Give me little time, help me clear up me mind - from Red Red Wine
Usually, going home tends to be relaxing for Pippi. So many things are just sort of taken care of... because. And usually, even when out, she just needs to call home, and her mother's handler takes care of... things. And stuff.

Right now, her mother is off in Ireland on a photo shoot, and her staff is with her. Pippi is welcome to use the house - but it was a lot quieter than she's used to. Sure, it still has the full beauty cabinet and all, so she was able to stock up - as indicated by her huge gym bag full of beauty products... which is a touch out of place sitting next to her at the pizza shop.
It didn't help with figuring out her syllabus, which is on the table. Or her class schedule. Also on the table. Or her books - a couple of which at on the table, while more paperwork is laid out with the rest of what she's supposed to need. She has her laptop... and knows how to boot up her games, but not a lot else.

This is hopeless.

"I'm not sure what to do, Mr. Whiskers." she says, with a sigh, to the stuffed cat in a tophat sitting on the table atop some of the papers.

"Who are your other two?" As he makes small talk he works on making the remaining papers a bit more organized, at least so they have a bit of space for food when it comes. "Wow, yeah, Ireland is far but good for your mom for getting to work there. Do you ever join her?"

There's a slight blush at the compliment. "Thank you but umm, I haven't done anything really but move stuff around and find certain pages. Yeah, the ordering part isn't hard. I'll show you step by step so you can see how it goes."

"Cain and Roberto were there first. Cain was the one who got me Mr. Whiskers when I was three. And usually, Cain does all of this sort of thing, but he's with Mom in Ireland, so he couldn't this time."

She shakes her head at the next question. "Maybe someday, but she has her own hair and makeup people. And while there were some offers, I don't really want to model like she does. I've been to a few of the shoots, and traveled some... but I need to be here for school."

"He sounds nice, and real busy. I'm sure you could model and be good at it, but it's smart of you to stick around here for school. What year are you in?"

He'll let her answer that before starting on the book ordering and showing her each step. The website, searching for the books she wants, how to place orders, what to look for, each thing he takes the time to explain what he's doing and make sure she can follow along. After ordering one book as demonstration, Harry turns the laptop toward her. "Did you want to try doing the next book? I'll organize these papers more for you in the meantime and if you get lost just ask. There's a few steps but it's straightforward enough don't worry."

"I just started beauty school last Fall. Thank you... but I really don't want to model. I like making other people look their best! Someday, I want to have my own salon... called Fairy Godmother's. Well, unless I can get work for GQ or Playboy or Vanity Fair or something. Because that'd be ok too." she explains in the way of her career plans.

"Cain is the nicest guy. He's been my mother's handler since before I was born. So, like a really long time."

She watches the process, making a couple token efforts, before sliding the laptop back to him. "That's ok. Usually, I can have Cain do it. Or get Dinah to help me. At least til I find someone who is really good at these things that needs a job. Because if I'm going to open Fairy Godmother's, I totally need to hire my own handler. You're a lot faster at this than I'd be anyway."

"Wow, you've really got it all planned out for the future. And the Fairy Godmother salon sounds nice, the name kind of fits the lantern thing too." The lantern reference slips out without him really realizing it, he'd taken the laptop back from her to finish the orders and been a bit distracted. He had no intention of pushing her to do it if it was difficult for her, so he works on ordering the remaining books as they talk. "What does a handler do? The organization stuff we're working on here? Oh, thank you, but it's probably just because I've had practice."

Ordering the books is actually pretty easy. So is most of the organizational stuff. Its the sorts of things the school expects a standard student to be able to do.

Pippi just happens to not be a standard student.

"I've known for a long time I wanted to make people look their best. It does so many good things for people. I've even gotten to help shop and stuff for a real Princess!"

She doesn't seem to notice, or key on the lantern stuff, particularly.

"You've practiced doing this sort of thing? Uhm... yeah. A handler just... uhm, handles stuff. Scheduling, would make sure I have alarms or reminder calls to make sure I get to classes, makes sure books are in order, taxis, limos, flights, JLI promotional things... uhm, I work with the JLI now. Those letters mean things, by the way."

Of course she's not standard. She's an indigo lantern! Or, well, was...details though.

"You've met a real princess? Wow. Where was she from?" For someone who was so approachable and easy to talk to, Pippi certainly wowed him with her experiences.

"Oh, yes. I mean for school, a couple of jobs, you know, all that stuff there. Scheduling, dealing with school books and all that. Wow, JLI. Cindy mentioned that, Justice League International right? You must be a good superhero."

"I love being a super hero! Getting to go into space and riding a gry... griff... giant winged space kitty was awesome! But best of all is still working with a real Princess. Cait is Princess of Atlantis. I always thought Princesses would be better at taking care of their own clothes and hair and stuff, but its ok. I'm helping her with that. When we're not doing JLI stuff. Cause that's kind of important too."

She slows down a little, considering some of what he said about his own experiences. "So... you really know how all this scheduling stuff works? And you know about super hero stuff?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Wait, a giant winged space kitty? Where are those?" Clearly he had been going about this pseudo-lantern business wrong if he had no idea what that was. "That's impressive, but she has you to help with that and I'm sure you do it better." JLI stuff was important and gets and earnest nod in response. "It is, and since you're a good superhero and really like it then I'm sure that means it's more important. You've got experience!" Which was important according to him. Well, to a certain extent, Cindy still won in terms of superheroes to respect.

"Yeah, it's really not all that hard, you just need to have an idea of what you want. And umm...well kinda, I mean...do you know Cindy? She's orange and she mentioned you." He glances around the place to make sure nobody is really listening in. He had a secret ID to the public but heroes knew, and if Cindy knew her and she was a hero, and indigo lantern to boot, he was okay with her knowing he guessed.

"Cindy Lord? Yeah, we were lanterns at the same time. She's really smart. And knows business things. Think she'd give you a reference? Because that would probably do a lot as far as passing Cain's inspection if I offered you a job. He'd need to double check it... but it sounds like you'd be a really good handler."

A pause, and, being Pippi, back to winged space kitties. "The Indigo Lantern Corps had the winged space kitty. We were partners while I was working with them. He was really nice."

"Cindy really is. She's great," he says with honest admiration. "Oh, thank you I've never been a handler before. But umm, I could apply if you were hiring. I could use a job. I'm pretty sure Cindy would give me a reference. She's the team leader so she'd know me well," he admits, not quite sure how this got to handler job applications, but he could use a job. The part time work at the community center was good and he'd been there for a while but with graduation coming and needing to pay back loans...well he needed something different anyway. If he was suited to the job and was what she was looking for, he'd try it for sure.

Harry then glances around and lowers his voice, she was an indigo lantern, was a hero, and knew Cindy to boot, so he was okay with this. "Umm well, she's got a team in Chicago and we're...not quite lanterns. But anyway, I guess I'd count for the indigo one. But I haven't ever had the ring like you did and I'm not experienced. What were the indigo corps like?"

"Ok, well... let's call this consulting then. Get my school schedule in order, get books ordered, and arrange a car and an alarm to make sure I get to my first class, and I'll pay you for the time." She's pretty sure that's how consulting works, and what she needs done, in any case. "$15 an hour plus lunch sound right?"

At the lowered voice, she leans in, grinning at the question. "The Indigo Corps is great. It takes a little while to learn the language, but its a lot of fun. They only have one flying kitty bird though, so you probably won't get to ride one... but they're still all smart and stuff, and know things about space and bad guys everywhere. So you have Compassion powers too?"

"Oh! That's generous, umm...sure, that works. Do you have a phone or something I can put alarms on? To notify you for classes." Luckily while working on organizing her papers he'd found a list of required courses so the school schedule could be done, he'd just need to ask if she had any preference for certain courses.

In answer to her last question Harry rolls up one of the long sleeves on his shirt far enough up his forearm that the indigo markings are visible. "Yeah, kinda. Ganthet says I have part of Proselyte, that octopus indigo entity, and I have these and absorb stuff, the colours and energy and all. But I don't know all that much about how it works, but I can teleport too. That I'm okay at," he confides in her with a small smile. Teleporting was by far the thing he actually enjoyed. Harry rolls his sleeve back down and has to smile at the image of the flying kitty bird lantern, it sounded fascinating. "That's really something, you've met a lot of the corps! Does the ring teach you the language and can Proselyte teach me? Was it hard being an indigo lantern? Is there anything I should watch out for?" Realizing he's asking a lot of questions, Harry blushes and abruptly stops. "Sorry for all the questions. I'm umm...still new at this and you've been doing it for a while so I wanted to know about it and um...if you had any tips or advice."

The required courses are pretty well laid out in the school paperwork. Since its a straightforward beauty school, there's not near as many choices. As such, once he gets the right papers in order, figuring out her classes is easy - for just about anyone who isn't Pippi.

She hands over her phone - once again a very, very nice one, with all sorts of bells and whistles... most of which have gone unused in favor of more neo-pet apps and the like.

"I learned the language pretty quickly. The ring helps a lot with that, but my headband taps into the Indigo too, so that helps. It also helped me learn to talk to animals better and things, so maybe its just an indigo thing. Being an Indigo Lantern wasn't hard at all, its just... well." She ponders a few moments.

"Its not like any other corps. A lot of them have big lists of requirements. To use a red ring, you need to be all angry all the time. Green is all uptight and things about their rules. And they all have something. Indigo... all you have to do is really want to help people more, and the ring kind of does the rest."

Makes things easier for him, class scheduling can be difficult with too many options that could conflict, so this is a welcome surprise. Harry smiles and takes the phone from her, again impressed by it, and puts it aside while he works on signing her up for the needed classes.

"You must be pretty smart to pick it up that fast even with the ring. So how do you talk to animals?" Harry finally looks a little relieved for once about Indigo things. "That...that doesn't sound all too bad. I can do that part I think."

"Well, mostly I just talk to them, maybe its the Indigo, maybe its that I respect how smart most of them are. But they like to help me make things better. That's how I met Mr. Hockey. And... yeah. You seem really helpful. So I bet you get the hang of all the Indigo stuff really fast."

"Is Mr. Hockey like Mr. Whiskers here?" He asks with a smile to the top hatted stuffed cat as if this was a normal thing to have at a table. "Umm thanks, I try to be helpful when I can. I don't know if I actually end up being helpful but umm...I try so, hopefully you're right and I can get the Indigo stuff down." Well he was Indigo not Blue for a reason.

It's not hard to sign her up for classes, the system is pretty straight forward, which can't be said for all school registration systems, but he's got what looks like a reasonable schedule done with all the classes she'll need.

"No, silly. Mr. Whiskers is a cat, Mr. Hockey is a dog. A big dog. He helped out with the zombie thing, rescued a whole bunch of people. Then he came home with me after the chainsaw stuff. And if you need help with Indigo things, I'd be happy to help you."

"Sorry, tell Mr. Hockey I apologize," Harry smiles. "And thank you Pippi, I really appreciate that, it'll be a big help." He really did appreciate it, the Indigo stuff always had him nervous he wouldn't be up to snuff for it but if Pippi, someone way more experienced with Indigo stuff than he, could help him from time to time, he'd feel better about it all. Besides, Harry was sure he had a ton to learn from her.

"So Mr. Hockey is like a superhero dog then-wait. Chainsaw stuff?" There were chainsaws involved in lantern work? Oh dear...

"Well, yeah. Not everyone uses them, of course. But the Chainsaw of Compassion worked great against the zombies, so I usually keep it close, just in case. I'm still waiting until I can get the Baroness to sign it."

"Where did you get a Chainsaw of Compassion?" It didn't seem like the type of things lanterns gave out. "I'm sure your Baroness would sign it if you ask nicely, I don't see why not. But umm...would I have to use a Chainsaw of Compassion? Because I'd prefer not to if possible..."

"No, I don't think you'd have to use a chainsaw. Except maybe for zombies. That's where I got mine... from the hardware store during the whole zombie thing."

"Oh. Well I guess that makes sense, thought you'd got it from the lanterns and not a hardware store. That's umm...resourceful of you?"

He's finished figuring out the alarms on her phone and setting up a bunch of weekly ones. "Here. There's an alarm fifteen minutes before each of your classes to remind you to head to class, and a second one to signal the beginning of class, especially in case you're running late or fighting bad guys. Those are for your regular weekly stuff, but if you've got any events coming up that you know of I can input those in too for reminders," he smiles and hands her back the phone. "I found a paper about a JLI event so I put that in already. Don't worry, it'll all be automatic. You can stop it when it rings of course and all."

She takes all this in, considering it carefully - for Pippi, anyway. "If they clear you through the background check, you'll be given access to the business credit card, so you can arrange cars and flights and things, and put some business expenses on it. I don't need as much stuff as Mom, so it would be part time - but if Cindy will give you a reference, that would probably help. I'll give Cain all your information when he's back from Ireland.

And... I've never heard of the lanterns giving out chainsaws. They're really, really useful though. I didn't have the ring yet then... but that's ok. I'm more used to my own compassion powers."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]in_reserve

"I don't think the background check will be a problem, but I'll ask Cindy for a reference. Part-time would work perfectly, it's my last semester so I'll be free after but in the meantime it'd be good to get used to it and see if I'm good for you." It occurs to him that he actually hasn't given her any of his info with the exception of a first name and the fact he was on a team with Cindy Lord.

"Hold on, let me write my contact info down for you." Harry digs into his bag and gets a sheet of paper from a folder and writes down all his information if she wants to find or contact him. "There. I hope it'll turn out."

"Oh, good, it'd be a little odd if lanterns did give out chainsaws. I've...never used a chainsaw before so I'll take your word on how useful it is. I don't have a ring either but, what are your compassion powers like?"
