Well, Hi!
Ezra had been good. Sort of. Hey, he'd taken his pills. He wasn't hearing anything that wasn't actually there. And when he'd gone wandering off to the museum, he'd left a note for Evan and the dads. ....Sure, he hadn't mentioned which museum. He was happy to go to any. He'd gone with the art museum today, though. The fact that this would make finding him harder didn't really occur to him offhand.

Right now, he was looking at a beautiful exhibit of pre-Raphaelite stuff, and jotting down things in his notebook. He didn't much watch where he was going.

Thomas has been pretty depressed. He knows his universe is gone but it doesn't stop him from missing it. Wayne Manor reminded him too much of his family and he needed to get away. He decided to hit up his mother's favourite place to unwind: The Gotham Art Museum. He used to love going as a kid and she'd tell him all her stories of how she stole the Monet that used to hang so prominently in the other room right from under Batman's nose. Dad would only ever grunt while she laughed teasingly at him.

Right now he's in the pre-Rahpaelite exhibit looking over some old favourites when he notices a boy his age scribbling on a notebook. He glances over curiously to see what the boy is writing.

He will see a collection of hastily but clearly written notes. "Rosetti and Elizabeth Siddal: research further." and "Simeon Solomon: What's up with him?"

Slightly askance on the page, there's some .... other notes. "Talk to Ev re: meth dealer near Park Row. Puppy-eyes if necessary." and "Remember to talk meds."

Though he notices the notes on the art, it's the meth dealer note that catches his eye. He silently frowns at the puppy-eyes part. People needed to realize that cats were far cuter.

"Solomon has some good stuff, it's a shame he never did more because of alcoholism and all his arrests."

He offers a small smile. After all it's sometimes better to get info through charm.

Ezra pauses for a moment to make sure that person was really talking and it wasn't just 'the radio.' Once he does, he looks up at the other boy earnestly. "Yeah, it's really nice. It's too bad talented people seem to end up with serious problems so easily -- arrests? Trumped up Victorian charges, or something serious?"

"I guess it's the tortured or crazy genius thing? Apparently something like attempted public sodomy. Got ostracized for it and it kinda ended his career."

He turns to face the note-taker fully. "You come here often? It's a great museum, and on top of that there's some great stories of theft from this museum in the past. It gives it a little...panache, don't you think?"

He offers his hand. "Thomas, nice to meet you."

Ezra rolls his eyes at the information, though not blaming Thomas for it. "Yeah, where 'public' was probably an entirely private room. The Victorian authorities were seriously insecure in their masculinity."

He takes his hand. "Ezra, you too. I come over when I came. It really is nice. And I'm not surprised. They used to have holes in their security you could fit a camel through." Pause. "Not that anybody actually used a camel. Just. You know. Figuratively."

He laughs. "Normally I'd agree but apparently it was a urinal. Unless the guy had urinals in his home..."

He agrees on the security holes. Mom once walked him through all of them as training one night. Hell, she'd even donated once specifically to the museum so they could fix some of the more obvious holes to prevent the amateurs from getting through (professional pride and all). Too bad he can't admit any of it out loud. "Considering the number of thefts they've had here? Not surprising. I mean you'd think with all this valuable stuff they'd protect it better."

His trademark mischevious smirk comes out now. "Well I don't think they had a camel here but they have brought in some live animals for some of the fancy charity shindigs they throw every year. I'm pretty sure there's been a lion and a bear before. Let's just say someone took the lion from under their noses. Gotham theme criminals and all. So it's not as figurative as you think. I gotta say, the criminals in Gotham certainly like to be prominent." Yeah he's segueing into crime. No other way to get to talking about meth dealers otherwise.

"Well, what do you expect? On the one hand, we've got an 'asylum' which doesn't provide adequate mental health treatment or adequate containment procedures. On the other, we've got crime syndicates who'll kidnap entire families to correct a perceived slight, but don't know how to so much as hijack a network packet sniffer, so they flaunt their corruption more to overcomopensate when they can't keep up with the tech trends."

That's a strong response for a supposed average citizen. And too much tech knowledge. "Arkham asylum is known as a revolving door, something that needs to be fixed right away. The city has definetely gotten better than it used to be but still, you've got once safe neighbourhoods turning into free for all mugging zones. I mean Park Row used to be reputable once upon a time." Yeah, before his grandparents were shot there. "But the police have gotten less corrupt I hear and drug dealers are less frequent, so there's something." Yes, he's dropping the Park Row mention and bait about the drug dealers to get a reaction. Let's see where it'll take him.

The reaction is that Ezra will shut his notebook as he answers.
"Park Lane hasn't been reputable since my parents came here. Го́лод не тётка -- пирожка́ не поднесёт," Ezra says, then realizes. "Um, sorry, that means, um, basically, 'you can't sit around waiting for a problem to go away by itself.' I'm sure the police are trying, but someone should keep them on their toes or a lot's just going to get lost in the shuffle."

Well this guy seemed like the reckless type to take things into his own hands.
"Hey, sorry. I know better than a lot of people what Park Row has become, but doesn't mean there haven't been improvements to this city in recent years. I mean look at all those vigilantes running around." He feigns ignorance at the Russian but inwardly smiles at the saying. He agrees completely with it, but he just can't show it now. "Keep them on their toes? How so?"

He made a mental note to check on this guy later. He made a mental catalogue of what he knew about him: Ezra, late teens, parents are Gothamites, speaks Russian, may frequent museums. It wasn't much but with a visual on top of it, it would be enough to look up more about this guy later.

After he deals with the meth dealer at Park Row of course.

"Fewer of them these days than there sometimes has been. Huntress and such are talented and professional, from everything I've heard, but they can't be everywhere." He ignores everything he know Evan would say now. That they're territorial. Oversensitive. Never going to be cooperative, which makes the whole enterprise worth bothering. Ezra isn't going to believe that.

"I'd like to see a little more public awareness, less complacency. Let the copys know attention is being paid. Let whoever's responsible for that insult to mental institutions know they won't get away with being so sloppy anymore. Aside from nasty letters to the times, well... Don't know what more I can say."

He frowns at the mention of less of them patrolling the street. He'd heard Batman had retired from Maria but...what about Dick? Tim? Was there even an Oracle operating within the city anymore? Gotham was certainly seeming more lonely than it had been in years.

"Less of them? Well it's hard to keep track of how many there are. For all we know someone could have started and word hasn't gotten out." Maybe...no. He shouldn't assume these things yet. He needs more proof. For all he knows this Ezra could be just another frustrated citizen with decent tech knowledge.

"Unless crime itself touches them, I don't think most people are going to get out of the complacency rut. Sadly, your nasty letters to the Times are probably censored I guess."

He adds an item to his mental catalogue: family history of mental illness? Or friend? The guy seemed to find it a topic he took personally. Just another way to keep tabs on this guy. He didn't want him doing something reckless or getting hurt.

"Look, sorry I got us into this. I didn't mean to ruin the art viewing. How about if we run into each other here again I make it up to you and get you a drink at the cafe downstairs? My apologies in beverage form. Plus, I find being relaxed always makes the art experience more enjoyable." It also gives him an excuse to keep track of this guy the next time they run into each other. If he was just a frustrated guy then at least Thomas would hear some opinions about this world's Gotham from the everyday person.

Inheritance, genetics be damned, was pretty linear in the Durlin house, different turns though it took. Evan had gotten the poker face, along with the knack for guns, overprotective instincts, and the taste for blond(e) hair (Evan had just taken it in the 'straight' direction).

Ezra, like Savant, wore his easily-misunderstood heart on his sleeve, so it was hard to hide the flash of interest and optimisim that lit up his eyes at Thomas's comment about more starting.

"No problem. Sorry to go all neighborhood activist on you, too. A drink sometime'd be great."

He's been trained by the world's greatest detective so the flash in Ezra's eyes at the mention of more vigilantes doesn't go unnoticed. He might be territorial but if someone were to be serious and capable while respecting the rules...well he wouldn't turn them down that easily then. But he's never going to encourage anyone to become a crimefighter.

He flashes Ezra a good-natured smile. "No, no. Don't worry about it. It's always interesting to hear people's opinions. And besides art's about exchanging ideas too, don't feel bad. I look forward too it. See you around Ezra." He turns to leave, making sure he takes the detour through the egyptian exhibit. He's not going to skip that.

At least one good thing came out of this: Tonight he'd suit up a take down some drug dealing scum by Crime Alley.
