Her Daddy Gave Her Magic; I Can Tell By the Way She Walks.
Mom's latest line was coming out soon, using some of Nevell's latest highly-specialized fabrics, and Vernique helping out talking to the techs and models for fashion week.

One of the models... now that girl was downright preternatural. Something in her catwalk strut was extra predatory. Beautiful girl, though.

Greg looked at the pictures while they followed the doorman. "Adorable is a gross understatement," he said when he was done looking at the pictures. They had reached a small table near the stage. A white table cloth covered the small round table and a small oil lamp sat lit in the middle.

Greg pulled out a chair for Vernique.

Vernique appreciates this and accepts gracefully. "Thank you. It's true. You have any family, Greg?"

Greg took the chair across from her and ordered a bottle of red wine when the waiter came to their table.

"I do. I have a twin brother and a sister. My parents live in LA."

"Twins, huh? What's that like?"

"You always have a best friend right next to you and since we're identical, it was always like looking in a mirror." A pause. "What always bugged me about being a twin is that people would assume that we were both into the same things. Wes liked sports and played baseball and football. Did some track as well. Me, it was music. I love music and learned to play a few instruments. I would have my dad take me to jazz clubs."

"Vexing. But it's much better that you were into different things. Complemenatry rather than always competing."

"Our competitive sides came out when it came to girls," Greg admitted. "What about you? I know you're married and have a son, but what about siblings?"

"Nope, only child. I have a kindasortanotreally stepsister, but we didn't really grow up together. So I was Daddy's Little Princess, and Mom's little semi-clone." She grins

Greg smiled. "It worked out well for you. You're smart, beautiful and your business is taking off and you have your own family."

"Flattery, sir, will get you...well, we'll see." She smiles. "So, you're the expert. What do you think of the group playing?

"Let me start off by saying I'm a little biased since I know a few of the guys. The trumpet player is playing a little flat and the guitar is just slightly out of tune. Other than that it's good."

"No reason to be anything other than honest," Greg said. The waiter returned with two wine glasses and a bottle of 2007 Sassicaia. He opened the bottle a poured a little in a glass. He offered it to Greg to taste, but Greg motioned for Vernique to taste.

And taste she does. "Mmm. Perfect." She grinned. "Mead's nice and all, it's got nothing on a good red wine for me."

The waiter poured wine into each glass and then left the bottle on the table.

"I've never had mead," Greg admitted. "More of a wine and beer man myself. If you're ever in Seattle you'll have to stop by my bar."

"It's nothing much," he said. "Just a bar that has great music." For Greg it was a labor of love of great music and beer. It barely made a profit, but money wasn't his main concern.

One of the band members motioned for Greg to join them, but Greg politely declined with a shake of his head.
