Okay, so people have been asking me about a new Marvel game. It'd be set over here on Scribbld for a couple of reasons.

But we have a couple possibilities, and I'd like some player feedback.

1) We could start fresh with new continuity. I'm actually not all that interested in maintaining Mansion canon, I'm afraid, though if there was strong player request to do so, I'd consider it. If we did that, I have an idea for how to handle it, though the cutoff would be just before Avengers Disassembled... with a plot that would allow us to alter history before that point for anything we didn't like. That would mean the Young Avengers would need to reform again from scratch, but that could easily be done.

2) Another possibility that I've thought about was a combined DC/Marvel universe. Where their histories have been intertwined. That opens up a lot of story possibilities, and telling flashbacks of major stories and how they'd be different could be fun. (Imagine, for example, telling the story of Secret Wars, but with some DC villains and heroes present instead.)

3) One player suggested that we keep the game small -- focus on just one team, such as, say, the Avengers. If we get enough interest for a second team, they get their own community, but it'd be a neighboring community, and occasional crossovers would be possible. Kinda like comic titles.

What do people think? What interests you the most? And what do you think is a bad idea? What will you play, and what won't you? And what would you enjoy the most?

1) I'd like a fresh start - Scribbld and new canon. There were stories where I felt hamstringed to do them at MM with what else was going on.

2) I'm in favor of a smaller, more focused "comic-titled" games. I would like to run a Avengers themed one - both West and East. I'd run a G-Men/SHIELD/government game if I felt I could. I woul;dn't even mind seeing them interconnected to a point.

I have some interest in keeping Mansion canon, just because there were some more stories I wanted to tell but most of them are wrapping up right now. I think it'd also be tempting to restart and come up with new plots. Give me a chance to do everything better. That's a very tempting possibility so I wouldn't mind starting over.

I know I wouldn't want a focus on just one team, if only because I have a lot of loud characters in my head. There's also just so much more story telling capabilities when you have more characters and teams.

As for DC/Marvel, well I'm completely new to DC, as you know. I'd join it but I'd have some trouble figuring out how things might be different.

1) I'd be more in favour of this than sticking with Mansion canon. Though personally, I'd be more in favour of paring down canon more than that. Most people like it; it can often be used as a springboard for new directions to take the character in. I find it more of a crutch. I don't like getting bogged down in it, and quite simply, I prefer stories about heroes in their infancy. They're less jaded, they make mistakes and they have more lessons to learn on the way. I feel there would be more scope cherry picking the bits of canon that we do want rather than cherry picking the bits we explicitly don't want.

2) Not terribly in favour of this. It could work if we stuck to A-listers, perhaps, but I think most Marvel/DC characters have an analogue in the opposing canon anyway.

3) I could get behind this, as long as lesser known characters or reserves aren't marginalised too much.

Young fresh heroes are fun, it's true, but I'll be totally selfish here for a moment.

I love Cap's relationships with people like Falcon and Diamondback, or Nomad, etcetera. I just wouldn't be able to develop all of his awesome history if we started anew.

The other concern would be newer characters. Would we not allow characters like the Young Avengers and the Runaways?

Hrm. What if we did things a little differently?

What if we started off fresh, with a new MU, but allowed new characters in during stages? So, for example, during Stage 1, we'd only allow characters who would be active in the 60's-era of the comics (even though it'd be set later)? Then we start allowing early 70's characters, then late 70's characters, and so on?

I swear I have to play Cassie somewhere. She will eat my BRAIN if I don't.

That said, if I could play Wanda and Vizh hooking up (and NOT DIVORCING) I think that would be really cool.

Then again, I'm really warming up to the idea of "fixing" Marvel's mistakes and not having to worry about explaining them. And I'd be playing Cassie elsewhere anyway.

Although I still don't like the idea of separate comms. It sounds messy if one character just wanted to visit another. (I for one think it'd be cool to have Wanda hang out more with the X-men like in First Class). Just my thought.

I like you guys, so you lead, I'll follow.

I'd like to maybe suggestion an early Marvel period. Like, say, no later than when Wanda, Hawkeye, and Quicksilver joined the Avengers. When everything was new and fresh.

I'd be interested in shedding MM canon and starting over fresh. Paring things down a single team or two teams and letting things grow from there. DC involvement sounds like it could be interesting depending on how it's handled.

A total canon reboot sounds like the easiest and most interesting way to go. A lot has happened in both comic and MM canon that I think could easily be stripped away without losing anything in a new game.

I love DC, but am not in favor of seeing it mixed up in a Marvel game. I think it would be too hard to execute without being total crack.

To be honest, I am not at all an Avengers fan, so it would be hard for me to get into an Avengers only game. If you kept is two small teams... a small group of Avengers and a small group of X-Men, that could work. I kind of like the idea of having separate comms for each team.

1. So in favor of a reboot and starting with a clean slate.

2. Don't like the idea of crossing DC and Marvel. I'm sort of strong on the Marvel side and don't know anything about DC outside of Arthur. I really don't have the time to learn a whole new canon.

3. I like the idea of a general Marvel based game. There's so fer general Marvel ones out there. Yes, teams are easier, but it's confining when it's limited to one specific team.

1. I like starting fresh. I really, really do.
2. Ummm...it's a nice idea? But I'd prefer just Marvel, I think.
3. I...kinda prefer a general Marvel game? But whichever way the majority wants to go on this.
