okay the shit up top has me thinking more on the cheating question. what does your character consider cheating? does it have to be the physical act or can it be emotional? or can it even be something else? and which kind of cheating hurts more?

emotional cheating to my character can be just as bad sometimes but if nothing happened physically my character could and would forgive it.

cheating to her would be the physical act but emotional probably hurts more because they're no longer 'yours' in a way, they've opened themselves up to someone else.

my character's relationship with his ex was, in a way, rife with cheating even though he never laid a finger on any other person or even opened up to them emotionally. he just had a way of being emotionally distant and attached to something else, to the point that it created a rift like he'd been cheating. so it's a lot more complex, in the big picture of his life, than just sleeping with another woman. and yet he's still so attached that at this point, even though they're split up, there's still strong emotions of cheating and betrayal from both sides as they're just leading separate lives

emotional cheating to him would be worse, though physical would make him just as sick.

emotional is worse for her, both as a cheater and as a cheatee... i guess that would be the word. there's just something about it when it's "forbidden" that makes everything worse, that mystique of it.

she thinks they both hurt about the same, but she refuses to think about the emotional cheating aspect because she's definitely been a party to that, and she can't handle the guilt. she justifies it by saying nothing physical happened.
