i'm of the opinion that it was a thoughtless post with a whole lot of typical unexamined white girl ranting about equality and not a lot of actual informed thought put into it. there were way more sensitive ways to go about it and the way the writer/character blew off everyone's concerns was definitely aggravating. i have nothing against a white character picking the naacp but the "humor" of the post was not at all funny and it would've been better to go with a more heartfelt approach.

i think my character, however, is probably more of the daniels and whatever the seth rogen's un is opinion, which is LOL IT'S JUST COMEDY AND IT ISN'T OFFENSIVE

this. i had a lengthy conversation about it today. i do not find it amusing to make yourself look superior by insulting another group of people. the entire thing about mississippi was classless and while i get the humour and the angle she was going for, it really just did not sit well. it isn't edgy to try and make yourself look better through thinly veiled "sarcasm"

i was trying so hard not to let ic/ooc lines get crossed, but when i got to the part about racism being prevalent in the deep south, i got angry.

i didn't get involved because my character would rise above it and she has no ties to the south (nor do i), but the entire thing just left a bad taste in my mouth.

my character didn't comment it because the humor flew right over her head, and i had to keep from letting my deep south racism go ic obviously

ALL OF THIS. the whole post smacked of white girl at a liberal arts college who thinks she understands racism because she's taken an african american studies class...
