my character knows nothing about something i'm super knowledgeable about and it's funny to hear her be like "huh? idgi."

i have the opposite problem. my character is an expert in something that makes me cross-eyed trying to understand it.

not oc but isn't that the point of having a character? that's not like yourself? it's not like the writer doesn't know about it, they said they're trying to understand it, but you don't have to be an expert in something to write about it.

you can write about things you know and not have them be the same as you.

oc here and it's the same kind of thing as playing a musician but not knowing how to play guitar yourself.

ok that makes sense, for some reason i was picturing them talking about math. by the way, that wasn't meant to be rude.

i didn't think it was rude! :) but it's the same situation for math. you learn what you need to as a writer and google kung fu the rest as it comes up.

well, i have that issue, too, with some things. i've had to do a ton of research on her religious beliefs.
