i've never lived there but my sister, who has, told me that if you live in an older building it's bettween 400-800 for a 1br/studio. If you live in a newer building it can be upwards toward 1000 a month. She said the older buildings have more flare, artsy feel and culture. I hope that helps! Oh she also said if you live in one of the more gay friendly districts (think about how friendly san francisco is to the gay population) you have better rent and it's safer, even if it looks like a ghetto!

that is very helpful, thank you! i have quite a bit to pay each month in student loans, but something on the cheaper side would definitely be affordable.

will do! i don't want a roommate if i can help it, so the housing prices were my biggest concern.

like the anon said about it being cheaper than LA, it's only marginally cheaper. i've looked into living in both places. and seattle is very different from LA in that it's a HUGE commuter city. LA's commuter areas are pretty nearby, but it isn't uncommon for people in seattle to live in various places outside of town and commute to town. also if you want something cheap for your character, stay out of anything that ends in island or harbor. water front in seattle is huge and places like bainbridge island, vashon island, etc, are ridiculous.

oh as it is now i commute 45 mins each way (beach cities to downtown) so i'm not expecting to be able to just walk down the street or hop on public transportation to get around like living/working in nyc would be. i was HOPING to live in the city (or at least a pedestrian area) mostly because i know i'll be there for a year-year and half min, and i'd want that sort of experience. after that i'm all for moving somewhere cheaper. ty for the location advice though.

seattle is big on buses, bikes, etc. they are very healthy and everyone walks/bikes everywhere. if it ever snows the city shuts down, they don't know how to handle it. live in the university district for decent prices, or the more artsy places.
