Jack, as he's gotten older, strives to do things as simple as possible and to do things in order. He has a routine (usually) and tries to stay by it. Politics and history has been embedded into his life - hes a natural learner and explorer like many navy officers. He isn't anal like he was as a child. I think the way he was brought made him realize that it was not the best way since his father was barely around and preplan his future. With his daughter, he's easy going and let's her do what she wants. Not letting her follow the family footsteps.
