Name one of my characters and I'll give you a short drabble about one or more of their kids.

I know I've been pretty lame about answering all meme things (it doesn't help that you lot request like a billion lmao) but I was reading some of the old prompts from this one the bug bit :]

Carys Belby

The sound of hands slamming against piano keys made Clara Belby cringe, and she stood at the bottom of the steps instead of going up to see what was causing the frustration, because she could just see her daughter sitting at the piano, banging furiously as she messed up the run she'd just attempted. She knew what song it was, but Carys couldn't make it all the way through the fun part---it just wasn't happening. It was hard---and she'd only been taking piano lessons for a few months, and while Carys was rather good at it, she liked to do things by ear without the sheet music, and...well, she didn't have the perfect pitch her father did.

Clara made sure to duck away and into the next room when the whirlwind of her daughter came down the stairs in a flourish. She poked her head out a bit to spot Carys slam herself down onto the couch after flicking on the telly, going straight to---of course, MTV.

"You sounded good!" Clara said, picking up a towel and wiping her hands, even though she'd been no where near the kitchen.

"Billy Joel's rolling over in his grave," the girl muttered, not twisting from her upside down position on the couch, her blond hair draping down to the ground.

"Billy Joel's...not dead."

She caught her daughter's eye now, and forced a smile as the girl glared sharply. Should've just let the piano man lie in his grave, Clara thought with a gentle roll of her eyes.

***I'll have you know she had me searching for half an hour for this song. I started it and she was like NO IT'S THIS SONG and I was like I DON'T KNOW THE NAME! "I DON'T CARE" so I was calling people lmao but then I found it. The part I'm thinking of starts at 2:49 XD
