"Now remember, when you get to school, there are going to be some nice kids, and some mean kids. Which are the ones you're supposed to stay away from."

"The mean ones!"

Izzie smiled and nodded, tightening Ernie's tie and sticking it under his sweater vest. His first day of school! To be honest, she had really been dreading this day, but her boy had not stopped talking about school since he'd found out he was going.

What's it going to be like? Are the teachers good? Will he learn? What are the rules? Can he be the leader? Can he talk about what happens there or is it only for students?

And after nearly a year of waiting, the day had finally arrived. And...Izzie wasn't sure if she could let him go. Her eyes darted up to the clock, and with each passing second she knew that Archie was going to come in here, take Ernie's hand, and lead him to school.

Stupid---stupid having two other kids to watch. She wanted to go. But Olive and Barnaby were sick and they must have done this on purpose because of all the attention she'd been paying to Ernie and--"Noooo, Archie! Go have another piece of toast!"

"I don't want another!"

"But---!"

"Ernie's going to be late! I can't afford waiting to put a piece of bread in the toaster and then having it cool off and then spreading the---"

Izzie glared up at her husband and huffed loudly. Fine. Fine. Don't give her an extra three minutes with her first born son. Fine. Be mean and selfish and it was unfair.

She stood from her kneeling in front of her son, and looked down at Ernie in his book bag and brown paper bag lunch, and his slicked down hair. Her five year old was going off to kindergarten and she could not handle it.

How the hell was she going to let him go off to Hogwarts?

Finn + Talulah
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-21 07:06 pm UTC (link)
The pitch, Finn always told...everyone, was for business. Quidditch might be a game, but it was his job and he got paid to be good at it. It was no time for funny business, and anyone who thought it was a good idea to fool around got a mouthful straight from him.

"Da, watch me, watch me!"

Finn shaded his eyes as he looked up into the sky to catch the zip of pink that was zig-zagging across the pitch. Talulah Danielle had been on a broomstick since she could stand (maybe even before then), and while she also loved doing the ballet her mother had insisted on, she always picked her broomstick over her slippers. She was good, too, already a dedicated seeker in just her second year of the little league.

"Too high!" Finn shouted, toes grazing the grass as he hovered a few feet off the ground. Talulah was a bit of a hard head (where could she have gotten that from?) and insisted she didn't need to be babysat in the air, but Finn was always ready to rocket up into the sky in case she faltered. Not that she did often, but he needed to be ready.

"Ima feint!"

"No you're not!"

"Da!" She stopped mid-air, hands going to her non-existent hips. The sun was bouncing off of her red hair, giving Finn a vision of how much of a Gryffindor Talulah already was. "It's just a feint, you do it!"

"I'm also not eight years old."

"You're like eighty, right?"

Finn's eyes narrowed and her hands dropped from her hips. As stubborn as Talulah was, she knew that look, and her smart-ass remark had lost her this battle. But her eyes lit up almost immediately, and she waved her arms about.

"Can you release a snitch, please? Pretty pretty pretty please? I'll catch it, I swear! Please? please?"

Her father let out a sigh, reaching into his pocket for the snitch that had been twitching around in there since they'd come out. He'd known this request was going to come, and...well.

This wasn't fun. This was serious, he was training a future pro seeker---no time for funny business.

"We'll get ice cream if you can catch it in under twenty!" he let out as he released the snitch.

Berk + Mara
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-21 07:31 pm UTC (link)
The Ministry's day care was certainly not up to par. Berk stood at the entrance of it, watching the children run back and forth, shouting and throwing things, toys scattered over the floor. He turned toward Mara, who was held up his his eye level in his arm, and an amused smile crossed his face as he saw that her eyes were wide with confusion at the chaos that was going on.

"Mmm, yeah, not happening," he said, turning on a heel. His parents usually had no problem with taking Mara during the day, but some old uncle was ill and they had to travel for a few days, so Mara was being bounced around. Berkeley had offered to come into work a bit late to get Mara settled into the daycare, but...he'd rather not leave her in a place where she might be trampled by a stampede of hungry children.

"What do you say," he said, shifting her over to his other arm as he pressed the button of the lift, "About going to the park? I heard there's a little fair going on, with a petting zoo."

"Doooo?"

"Zoooooo, yes!"

"Doooo!"

Berk grinned and kissed the side of her head with a loud 'smack' noise. Yes. He could just send a note saying that he was ill to the offices. They could deal without him for one day; there were sheep to be pet.

James + Harry
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-25 04:22 am UTC (link)
He'd never been this bored in his life.

James' face was pressed into the palm of his hand, elbow resting on his other wrist as his arm pushed into his chest. He looked quite disgruntled, and the only movement was of his bouncing leg, and his twitching eyes. He could see Harry sitting on the couch beside him, slumped down as he wasn't really old enough to hold himself up in a sitting position. Two Potter men, and they couldn't come up with a damn thing. This was a right shame.

"Harry, this will not do," James said with a loud sigh, dropping his arms and twisting to face the boy. Harry looked up at him, wide green eyes blinking slowly. Useless, this one. "What do you think? The cat already hates us, Wilbur's hiding out in the back, the broomsticks have been confiscated----"

The click of the door made James freeze in place, his hands up wildly. Lily entered the living room with the bag of groceries on her hip, and her eyes narrowed immediately.

"What are you plotting?"

"Plotting? Me? Plotting?"

Lily pursed her lips and tapped her foot. James blinked just as slowly as Harry had and looked down at his son, who was smiling--probably at the sight of his mother, but it did look rather mischievous. James' look of confusion turned into a grin.

"I'm not plotting anything," he said snootily, sweeping Harry up into his arms, nose in the air. He whisked past Lily, whose eyes had not left him.

"I swear, James Randall Potter if I find anything out of place---"

"Oh---well," she was really giving him the perfect ammo, wasn't she? He hadn't done a thing, and he would manage to drive his wife insane for a good few hours, "I wouldn't go....ah, nevermind."

"James!"

"Come on Harry, we don't have to sit around and be accused of things."

"Dad, none of the other kids play football!"

Geoffrey crossed his arms roughly, chin up in the air as he looked away from his father. Tomas scoffed loudly, knocking the ball on his knees back and forth before kicking it straight at his son. Geoffrey caught it in the shin and let out a yelp, "What was that for! That hurt!"

"No it didn't, cut it out," Tomas said with a roll of his eyes, catching the ball as it was chucked back at him. "How are you going to handle getting hit by bludgers if you can't take a football to the shin?"

"Okay---well," Geoffrey began, his tone dropping into a lecture-like voice that Tomas knew far too well, "Firstly, I'm going to be on a broomstick that'll allow me to turn at every angle so that decreases chances of---oomph!"

This time, he caught it in the arm. "Dad! I'm trying to explain!" Geoffrey tossed the ball back with a sigh, and Tomas grinned.

"Keep explaining!"

"Well---if I play keeper, the Beaters aren't allowed to really aim for me, they have that circle they gotta keep out of, and as a seeker I'm not moving as fast for most of the game so I can keep an---OW, DAD---WHAT THE HECK?"

In the gut, this time.

"You're yammering on while I'm trying to teach you a lesson," Tomas said, tsking and letting out a low laugh as Geoffrey still rolled the ball back. Boy, this kid knew how to logically debate, but he still managed to have those let's-not-think-right-now Gryffindor tendencies Tomas was proud to say he'd instilled in him.

Looking rather huffy, Geoffrey finally let his shoulders drop and he bent his knees. Maybe he'd gotten the picture.

"Fine. But could you at least wait until---DAD OKAY COME ON I WASN'T READY!"

Rabastan + Bianca
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-25 02:34 am UTC (link)
He felt the house-elf arrive before he spoke, and Rabastan's eyes did not flit up from the history novel. His body lay along the length of his couch, head propped up on a large, deep pillow. His chest rose at even intervals, up and down--up, down.

"Master Rabastan," it whispered, not daring to enter his reading light. "If yous wants, I can---"

"Did I call for you?" Rabastan snipped quickly, eyes still moving across the lines of his book. He heard the house-elf's feet shift in the carpet, and Rabastan let out a long breath from his nose.

"No, Master, but---"

"No buts, I am perfectly fine where I am, now go before I have you beheaded like your brother."

The crack the house-elf's departure made Rabastan wince greatly, a snarl crossing his face. That bloody thing was going to be beheaded anyway, he had just---

Soft whimpering ceased his thoughts, and Rabastan dropped his book to the ground as his hands went to his daughter's back, who had been lying in a comfortable slumber on his chest. He patted down Bianca's golden curls in an attempt to soothe her, muttering in a gentle tones about how the house-elf would pay for disrupting her nap.

"ALEXANDER BRIAN KOEN TIMMS-CATCHLOVE!"

The blond boy winced greatly at the sound of his full name, shoulders scrunched tightly as he remained under the table and hidden away from the fury of his mother. Not. Good.

What had she found? Was it the frog spawn he'd hidden in her shoes? The dung bombs he'd set off in the basement? Oh. Maybe she'd found the cat, who had been bugging him and ended up being stuffed in the chimney.

Hey. Xander had a lot of free time on his hands. It was the summer holidays.

Dropping down onto his stomach, his blue eyes scanned the area for his mother's feet. He could usually hear her, and when the coast was clear he'd dart out of the house and stay out for a bit of time to have her calm down from whatever she'd been hollering about.

He had a lot of practice at this 'avoiding getting in trouble' thing.

Satisfied that he was safe for the moment, he crawled out and grinned, glad he wouldn't have to suffer through some sort of lecture. Alexander got to his feet, and as he stood he caught sight of a reflection in the mirror that wasn't his.

"BWAH---" he let out as his mother launched herself off the top of the table to grab onto him before he could escape. "MA!"

"You are not going anywhere until you tell me why everything in your room is covered in mud!"

Oh. So that's what she was mad about.

Elena + Jia Li

Elena squirmed in her seat uncomfortably. Couldn't her daughter's teacher have found her, you know--a chair made for people that weren't five years old? She sighed and looked over at Jia Li, who was slouched low with her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Elena really had no idea what this emergency meeting was about, but her teacher had called the house (called, because their children went to a muggle elementary school) with such a short tone that Elena had canceled all of her afternoon appointments.

"What's this about?" she whispered to her daughter, but once again she just got a shrug. It must be bad. "If you tell me, I can tell you if you're going to be in trouble, or not--"

"She says there's no such thing as magic," her daughter yelped, sitting up and throwing her hands in the air, "And I told her to shut up, you blue cow!"

"You called your teacher a blue cow!" Elena exclaimed, covering her mouth, "Where did you even---so that's why she was so mad!"

The door opened quickly and Elena turned to greet the teacher but instead let out a loud gasp. She felt Jia Li tug on her shirt, and her daughter pointed a finger to her blue skinned teacher.

"Nuh uh. That's why she's mad."

Adelaide + Lee
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-25 01:43 am UTC (link)
"And this is where the magic happens!"

Lee spread his arms about the WWN studio with enormous relish, and Adelaide's nose tightened as in slight disdain. It was small, cramped, and filthy. She could tell that her son had been the only one in here for months, the piles of butterbeer bottles were a true indicator.

"And...they're letting you continue to do the show from here?" she asked, taking tentative steps in, her toes tiptoeing over the piles of old t-shirts. Lee nodded enthusiastically and rushed over to a table, pushing away newspapers (and hiding other certain magazines) to reveal his work station.

"Yeah! They think it's a true testament, and I mean---you know, there's probably still people out there who hate me, and since the place is still hidden--" Lee shrugged, "it's just safer here, for now."

Adelaide's lips tightened, eyes scanning the dingy room. Lee had spent nearly a year in this place, helping the Order of the Phoenix (that was a whole other story, his explaining of that), giving reports against the Ministry and You-Know-Who and his followers. She'd seen her son...three, four times since the war broke out? Random visits to tell her that he was still alive, short, one line owls with a joke or a 'don't worry.' And then, the Battle at Hogwarts happened, their friends and family were buried, and now he was showing her, with much pride, the tiny room that kept her son away from her during this time of crisis and she'd wanted to beat the living hell out of him every time she saw him---

Lee grinned broadly, the pride on his face obvious and nearly blinding. Adelaide sighed.

"Well. Can I at least tidy this place up before your first official show?"

"Ohhh, I'd been hoping you'd offer that!"

[info]cristina_lacosa

"But I don't want to go!"

"It's boring!"

"There's nothing to do there!"

Estella turned around quickly, her grip on Elizabeth's wrist nearly whipping the poor girl into the street as she turned around to glare at the boys. They hadn't stopped whining since they left the house, and as patient as Estella could be, these two had perfected the art of riling their mother up.

"If you two don't be quiet I am going to lock you up in your rooms for two weeks!"

"But Ma," Marcus let out, stopping in his place and stomping around, "I hate going to Lizzie's ballet practices!"

"Yeaaaaaaaah, why can't we just---stay home?" Jacob whined, bouncing in place. Oh, they were already getting extremely restless. This day was not going to end well. Estella looked down at her daughter, who was staring at her brothers with a neutral, plain expression; it was something the five year old had seen numerous times.

Estella let out a breath; her studio had cut out of the budget the classes for the younger students, so Elizabeth had to attend a private one in Diagon Alley, and it was always such a bloody hassle to get all the kids there. The three of them combined---well, there wasn't a babysitter that had lasted more than a day.

"All right---" She looked up and saw that they were in front of a quidditch supplies store. "Look---I'll go in there and get you some quiddditch magazines, all right? Will that make things better?"

"GET 'SNITCH!"

"OOH YEAH 'QUIDDITCH KIDS ILLUSTRATED'!"

"Okay, just---watch your sister," she said, pushing Elizabeth lightly to Marcus so he could take her hand, "I'll be back in a minute."

...

A minute, it was literally a minute. The magazines had been right there, she'd had the perfect change---it was less than a bloody minute---

"YOU. TWO. ARE. SO. MEAN!"

Estella gawked from the entrance of the quidditch store at the sight in front of her. Puffs of pink tulle were scattered up in the air and the shrieking of what sounded like banshees was bouncing off the walls. But--oh, oh no, it wasn't the restless boys, not at all, actually---

"I GO. TO YOUR. STUPID QUIDDITCH. GAMES!" Elizabeth shrieked, pounding her tiny fists into Jacob's chest as she sat on top of him. Marcus was scrambling to his feet, but she grabbed his shirt and tugged him down. "STOP. MAKING. ME. FEEL. BAD!"

"ALL RIGHT ALL RIGHT!"

"WE LOVE BALLET NOW GET OFF!"

"AUGH I HAVE TUTU IN MY MOUTH----!"

Dimitri + Dean
[info]cristina_lacosa
2008-09-22 05:35 pm UTC (link)
Dimitri laid flat on his stomach, cheek pressed into the mattress to keep a close eye on Dean. His son was lying on his back, staring back at his father with wide brown eyes, and Dimitri wondered for a moment what could possibly be on the boy's mind. From what he could tell, babies only concerned themselves with a handful of things. Food, sleep, diaper changes, and demanding constant attention from those people who called themselves 'Mummy' and 'Daddy'.

Oh, he was very much an attention hog, especially with his mum. Whenever Dimitri hugged or tried to kiss Gabrielle, Dean either sent him glares from his bouncy chair or started whining. Sure, he'd lived inside of his mother for nine months, but did he think that entitled him to all of her attention?

Sure, she gave in to every single last one of Dean's cries, but. So did Dimitri, he couldn't really blame her for that.

"C'mon, Dean. Rolling over is easy," he said, demonstrating with a quick roll onto his back. The baby continued to stare, and Dimitri rolled back onto his stomach. "Just think of all the possibilities. Then you won't be confined to lying on your back when that shiny rattle's just a roll away."

The thought of his son rolling along the hallways caused a grin to cross his features, and Dimitri sat up. His hand went to Dean's side, lifting it gently to try and give him the extra push to make the roll. He'd been doing this rocking thing these past few weeks, which made him think he was ready to take the next steps, but Dean seemed quite content in lying on his back for the moment.

"Rolling is fun, don't you want to roll?" Dimitri teased, slipping his hand going under him and palming the baby's back. He lifted his hand a bit to get the motion going, and Dean's eyes remained locked on his, though now a threatening sort of glare escaped him. "Look. It's easy. Ready? One. Two--"

It looked slow motion, and hilarious, how Dean remained on his side for a good three seconds and Dimitri 'helped' him roll over. Dean plopped down onto his stomach with a squeak, and Dimitri grinned, bending over to once again be on eye level with his son---who, yes, he was sure now, was sending mental thoughts of destruction and torture toward his father. Boy, he couldn't imagine being so expressive so young, but maybe he just did things to annoy Dean often enough that they'd developed early.

Hell--wait until he brought his first girlfriend home. Then Dimitri was seriously dead.
