Sword Lessons
If there was one thing Brandr took more seriously than duty, it was the art of sword fighting. All those who'd argue against its standing as an art or who would claim that any other type of weapon was superior, would find themselves knocked to the ground with cold steel against them.

If one was going to wield a sword, especially any offspring of the Warriors Three, then they were going to be doing it properly. Of that he'd personally make sure. Which is how he'd often ended up directing impromptu sword lessons for some of his younger 'cousins' on his off-duty days. Some only though. Volstagg's numerous children were enough to make this a full time profession.

He turns to Hjordis, "Ist his grip always so atrocious?"

"Aye," she said. "It doth not improve with time."

"Ver' easy to make fun when ye always hath hands!" Douglas exclaims.

Brandr has to chuckle at the outrage and walks over to take the sword out of the younger man's hand. "Grip thine sword like this, lest it fly from thine grip and no hands shalt be the least of thine worries," he smirks as he puts the sword back in Douglas's hand and places his fingers one by one in the proper position this time.

"Well? Go ahead. Mayhaps ye shalt fair a might better this round."

"If thou spent more time with hands, mayhap thou wilt learn how to hold a sword properly," Hjordis said as she took a practice swipe with her sword.

" 'Tis tricky. Dinna want my tracking skills slipping, either." But Douglas listens, and tries to hold it right enough to keep up.

"And what shalt thou do when ye reach the end of the trail? Fight with a lacking grip? Lose thine sword and head?" He rests his own sword against his shoulder as he casually watches.

"Feet! Thou are not yet a tree, do not stand so rooted to thine spot. Move thine feet!"

" 'Tis still valid. Besides," he looks at Brandr. "At trail's end, I shalt show fair Hjordis where the target is and watch her defeat them."

"If I'm to be tracking something I couldn' kill with my teeth, I'm probably with both of ye." Douglas refuses to abandon his logic. "But I shalt keep working nevertheless."

He can't help the amused smile at Douglas's logic. A boy's logic, he thought, but there was no reason he should squash it. "Thou hath been improving. Both of ye. E'en if one hath hands more oft."

Casually he takes his sword off his shoulder, steps in and with the flat of his blade gives Douglas's sword hand an underhand whack to test his grip. He is prepared to catch the sword should it go flying. "Mayhap this teamwork shouldst be tested. A spar with mineself. What say?"

And now that it's some sort of issue of the Honor of the Forest, practically, Douglas manages to hang on, although he does start to get just a little fuzzy..

"Ye wilt be," he nods firmly to Hjordis while he draws his sword. He puts one hand behind his back and gets into what on Midgard would be very similar to a fencing stance. It was just how he did things when he wanted a challenge, and it was good for keeping your feet moving during sparring. Not to mention in an actual fight the hand behind his back would occasionally pull out a dagger to surprise people.

"Yet have I to hear of thine adventures on Midgard. Art I not worthy of these stories? Mayhap there be a tale in there of Douglas's triumph with sword. I wilt be most pleased to hear it," he comments while he stands ready and waiting for them to attack. No reason not to talk in battle, good for helping them multitask.

Hjordis brought her sword up and started moving. Her movements mirrored Brandr's. She wasn't going to let him get around to the side of her where her vulnerability would be. "We doth defeated Loki and Galactus. There ist a wonderful band called Starry Twilight."

"Starry Twilight are soulless curs who masquerade as masters of the bardic arts, but their illusions therein ensnare only maidens," Douglas said drily. "Galactus was quite a challenge. I still hath the scar."

"Loki and Galactus? Quite the feats. I admit to being impressed," Brandr says while he moves too and slowly circles to prevent them from surrounding him, still waiting for one of them to make the first move. "These curs of bards, doth they employ sorcery to seduce maidens with music? It seems to be dishonourable practice."

Nimbly springing out of the way, he swats her attack away with his sword and continues, "Hmm hath any looked into ending this deception? It seems like such men shouldst not be allowed to continue this practice." Quick jabs at both of them come to make sure they're keeping up their defense.

Had Hjordis not been so focused on the swordplay Douglas' compliment would have registered and she would have turned bright red. She parried his jabs easily and pressed in for an attack toward his weak side.

Never seeming to be standing still for very long, Brandr parries her attacks and dances in between the pair before turning to deliver a few swift attacks to their back. The clash of swords ringing through the air seemed to add to the grin on his face. "Mayhap if I ever am to venture to Midgard I shalt go see this sorcery for mineself." Putting a stop to it might be an entertaining challenge.

He doesn't let up or let her take the offensive. The attacks keep coming and his feet never seem to stay in the same place. But when he does quicken his attacks, he aims the extra ones at Hjordis instead since she seemed like she could take them.

"America it ist if I should visit. Though you have told me many a story about these infamous Rangers, Douglas. Mayhap I shalt visit Scotland to see them. And Scotland which you have spoken of so oft seems to be a place where I shalt find many a challenge."

The grin on Brandr's face doesn't leave and, instead of seeming to tire, the fact that they're holding their own with this pace only seems to widen that grin and give him more energy. He keeps the pace the same but puts more variety into where he's aiming his attacks. Better they get put through the paces now than make a mistake where it counts.

"Thine defenses have improved since our swords last met. Hath ye tried thine hands at any other weapons? I don't hold much favour with the mace mineself, it feels clumsy and cumbersome. Far too slow in battle," he chats casually as he goes, just a sign of how relaxed he is when in his element. After a bit he makes a move to try and disarm one of them.
