It's a good thing that Derek is used to Dolemeck doing the whole "jump out of shadows" thing, because having him randomly there next to him is usually unnerving.
"No, it's not that. You just have a tendency to do a lot of navel contemplation when you read stuff like that.And I don't think you're a monster. Now Mr Lao and his Dad eating self I'd say is one, but not you."
There is a smile and a firm hand on Dolemecks shoulder to reassure.
"Monsters, like animals, don't have a choice in their nature. You do. Therefore, not a monster."
