Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Malaya: *comes out with two long ribbons. They almost look like lace with all the holes in them, but the pattern is clearly not for looks.* These will help protect you. *she'll step up and wrap a ribbon around Kage's neck and will tie it off like a collar. She'll do the same to Deckard.* These will make you invisible to the stealers. They will still sense your presence, so be careful, but at least they won't see you.

Deckard: *can't help the dubious, or at least questioning, look that crosses his face, but he won't insult her by asking, he'll ask Kage later* Thank you, Malaya-san.

Kage: Thank you, Malaya. *he's been here longer than he'd been in Japan, the honorifics just don't come naturally to him anymore. He'll step up and give her a hug*

Malaya: *hugs back* You two be careful. You have things to stay warm? Lots of orbs?

Kage: Yes, Malaya. I've packed all I could think of that we'll need.

Deckard: *small frown at a thought and he's pulling his pistol and extra ammo compartment...*

Kage: *turns to Deckard* Ready to go?

Deckard:  Yes. *firm nod*

Kage: *nods and turns to lead the way. Once they step from the village he'll speak again if Deckard doesn't first* Our first obstacle is a desert. We're not physical in the same aays we used to be, but we are in a sense physical here. Sand getting into spaces in our armor can cause damage. On top of that we will be far more afftected by the heat than we used to be. Our bodies almost function like a human's body. We'll need fluids, and will need to keep covered from the light. While it won't change the color of our armor like it would a human's skin, we /can/ get sunburned...and it's a /horrible/ feeling. We'll travel mostly at twilight, when the sky is darker and the air cooler, and we'll rest and make shelter when it's brightest and hottest.

Deckard: *nods* I'll follow your lead. *reaches up to finger the ribbon around his neck* So what are the stealers that Malaya-san mentioned? And what other threats are out here?

Kage: *frowns* Stealers are monsters. They wonder an area most call The Pass. They...feed on us. They're not too smart, but they're hard to see, even with my scanners, they're conpletely silent, and they're persistant. They are slow, though, so that helps, and they're...more like spirits than we are, so weapons don't work on them. We won't come across them for a while yet. First we'll cross the desert, then the river....it feels more like an ocean, after that the swamps, then The Pass through the mountains, and then we reach the hall of trials. Beyond that is the Guardians, and finally the Breach.

Deckard: *thoughtful frown, taking all that in* All right. So, section by section, then . . . what threats and hardships can we expect to encounter, and how do we fight them?

Kage: Desert. Extreme heat, sand storms, robbers and thugs. There are rumors of some kind of...sand worm, but I never saw anything like that the last time I came this way. There are those that have made homes for themselves near the edges of the desert. Some are good people, some will try to take our supploes and destroy us.

Deckard: And people here can be fought just like living people? What about the sand worm if we encounter it?

Kage: *nods* Yes, they're just people from other worlds, like us. As for the worm...I'm not sure. Rumors only say it exists and eats the souls it catches. Nothing more. I think it's a myth, I spent what amounted to months trying to find my way through this wasteland last time, I never encountered any creature large enough to try to eat me.

Deckard: *wry grin* Be thankful you've never had to face some of the bio-monsters we've dealt with. *he's especially remembering Gawan and when it had gotten hold of Power Joe, not to mention Yuuta going in voluntarily after Seia-san's younger brother*

Deckard: *laughs* Spying on us, is that it? Though I can't say I blame you. All right . . . that's the desert. What about the ocean-river?

Kage: *dismissive shrug and a smug grin* It's in my programming. *nods and gets back to business* We'll have to make a boat, or hope those that live there will be willing to trade for one. ....we can drown now. And we can become tired even before we run low on fuel. *a soft huff* I always wondered what it would be like to be a human, but since coming here I wish I were a normal robot again. *moving on* There are monsters in the water, and obstacles we'll need to stear around. Most of the monsters will leave us be, but...if we have to fight we need to try our best to make sure we don't lose our boat.

Deckard: *nods . . . thinks for a moment, hefting the bag of orbs he's carrying* Since you've crossed it once already, is it safe to assume it won't take us months to find our way across the desert? How long do you think that and the river will take?

Kage: *smiles* I have. It's...it's like being alive, I guess. We make a home for ourselves, do what we can to keep ourselves going. No one ages...and yet we never seem overcrowded. Sometimes I wonder if some people don't end up somewhere else entirely.

Deckard: Sounds like people can potentially, in a sense, live forever here. Is there an economy? Do people hold jobs or have to pay for anything? *frowns at a thought* If a friend or family member dies and winds up elsewhere, is there some way of finding them?

Kage: The orbs are used as money, or trinkets are traded. And so long as someone endes up in this realm they can be found. I... I worry sometimes that Shadowmaru might end up somewhere I can't reach him. I don't know where else people go, but clearly not everyone ends up here. People die everyday one Earth, not to mention the people from other worlds that end up here too. We should be getting thousands of new people everyday, likely many more, but we only have about...fifty a day that show up, at most.
