Tenten {Part III}

Personality, Likes & Dislikes:
Throughout her lifetime, Tenten learned the value of hard work. Wherever she went, whatever she did, it was important that she learned to do a task and to do it well, and most of the time she didn't really have much time to learn the skill. Therefore, she learned how to keep at a task for hours on end, working on developing her skills at it. This also lead to her learning of proper time-management.

She also learned how to care for herself and become truly independent. Now she despises acting for help and will not bring herself to call for assistance unless she absolutely needs it. Because of this, the presence of other people isn't one vital to her well-being, but she does enjoy having others around. Most of the time, she doesn't talk too much, and she is often easy to get along with. Her most common emotion is happiness, and she has never been seen crying. However, she can be prone also to annoyance and anger, especially when someone annoys her to a great degree.

When Tenten talks, she is very often quite honest and very blunt, and most of the time, she has the tendency of pointing out the obvious in a wry, deadpan way that can make some laugh and others roll their eyes at the obviousness of her statements. Her mannerisms are plain and simple, for she doesn't really see the point of wasting breath or in dancing around a question that could be asked easily.

Although she can be very respectful and polite when she wants to be, she mostly treats people as her equals. There are some people who she greatly admires, but those people often have to prove that they are worthy of respect, whether through actions, words, or deeds. The type of people who will claim to be important but are in fact only being self-righteous are merely mocked and ignored by her, but she reveres people who have shown they should be respected.

Even though Tenten has the tendency to be too focused on her work sometimes, she knows how to and enjoys relaxing every once in a while. She's experienced the horrible drawbacks of stress, and she knows what all work and no play can do to a person. She may pretend to be annoyed for a moment or two, but in reality she loves her days off, and she's very fond of relaxing and letting others do the work once in a while. If she has nothing productive to do for a few days, though, she can become cagey and more prone to anger than usual.

When in relationships, Tenten doesn't act much like other people. For the first part, she's not fond of public displays of affection. Affection, to her, is something that is private and between two people. Also, she's not very flightly. She may think many males are attractive, but she will like or love one male exclusively for a long time. Because of this, she doesn't believe in having one-night stands and she doesn't quite date casually (in fact, she prefers to flee when the word "date" is brought up in conversation). To her, it's either friends or in a relationship; there's no middle ground.

Tenten likes a great many things, and she prefers to do those things or have those things at all times. She likes sharp weapons and throwing them, but she also likes to sit down and read something every so often. Like most people, she likes to accomplish her goals, but she also likes setting new goals, and she's rather fond of testing limits and what other people say she can and cannot do. In this way, she can be a bit hard-headed. Also, she likes handsome men, Chinese food, the colors red, white, and pink, and getting to know other people.

Of course, she has her dislikes, too. Things that she dislikes include people who act like they're better than they really are, her accent, and being bored. She doesn't enjoy asking for help or asking other people for things, nor does she like to do easy, boring work or review work of things that she already knows. Even though she's no longer a circus performer and her throwing skills no longer quite matter, she dislikes when she misses the bulls-eye on a target, and she absolutely hates when one of her precious weapons is damaged.

Sample Post:

First Person
I had a very interesting night yesterday. After work, I realized that I was a little bit stressed out and very much in need of some relaxation. Some men (boys, more like) had a game of darts out, and I wanted to have a try. Well, they said that females were naturally lousy at aiming. Meanwhile, they were throwing from maybe twenty feet away and never even hitting the bulls-eye. I could hardly keep from laughing at their stupidity.

Instead, I acted really eager, like I wanted to try badly. I promised them that I would be very careful. Then I told them that I'd pay them ten dollars apice is they'd let me join in, but that if I could hit two bulls-eyes out of ten than they would have to pay me back and each give me another twenty on top of that. I know it was rude of me, and very prideful, but they were stupid idiots, and I felt like maybe I could lighten their wallets in return for the insult to my gender.

They agreed, so I paid up and walked to the line. I looked at the board for a moment and gripped the first dart carefully. It was different from the daggers and knives I was used to, but I'd practiced before on darts and small needles, too. So I threw them all carefully, one after. After a moment, all ten of them were clustered in the center of the bulls-eye. They grumbled and complained and acted surprised, but they did pay me.

So I got myself a few rounds of drinks and went home very happy and maybe just a little bit tipsy. It was fun to see the looks on their faces. And they say that you can't teach an old dogs new tricks.

Now I'm 140 dollars richer, and I didn't even have to work a single minute of overtime. Maybe they learned a lesson, too, and that would be even better. Cocky idiots.

Third Person

Tenten rolled out of bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. It was too, too early, and her body was still sore all over. Every one of her muscles screamed out in protest as she rose out of bed. Sure, she had a certain degree of athleticism and strength from all those years in the circus. However, her muscles were suited to throwing, not the heavy lifting and moving that was part of her current factory job. Sighing, she moved to the kitchen of her small apartment.

She sought out the green tea first, her eyes still mostly closed as she drew out the package of leaves and the pot in which she'd boil water. This was something she did every single morning, no matter what happened, and she could make herself green tea even if she was as drowsy and sore as she was this morning. However, Tenten had to open her eyes as she looked for bread for toast and her newspaper. These things had only recently become insertions into her morning routine.

Bleary-eyed, Tenten grasped the classified ads and searched for the help wanted ads, quickly gazing up and down the columns. Disgusted with her findings, she threw down the paper and poured the boiling water onto her tea packet. No, there were no new jobs, and no jobs yet which she was qualified for.

Shaking her head, she realized she was more annoyed at herself that anyone or anything else. How could she have been so foolish, she wondered, to think that she would have enough money working in the circus? Sure, they paid well enough for when she was working there, but she hadn't had the common sense to think ahead and wonder what would happen if something happened to the circus.

While she stirred the tea, she frowned ever so slightly. There was no use in being upset, she decided, especially not when there was nothing to do about it, no way to fix what had already happened. Sure, she didn't like the job at the factory. However, it paid enough to keep her going, and it wasn't as if it was exactly the most horrible of jobs. So she hurt. Oh well, Tenten thought. She knew that if she kept up with her job long enough, she would grow accustomed to it.

And in the meantime, she would search for new jobs. Something that preferably didn't mean that she had to wake up so damned early in the morning. Plunking the empty cup of tea back on the counter, she wandered into her room to find something to wear. Already she was feeling a bit better, she decided as she looked around the small space. If she was patient, if she worked hard, she would be okay, and Tenten excelled at patience and hard work.
