The words came on their own, no thought required. It was just process, cold and indifferent, like plugging numbers into an equation, and I could have been someone else, listening and watching this, for all I felt.

I hated that you felt sorry for me. It was even worse than feeling sorry for myself, but not by much.

Because lately, I just keep hearing people blame love. But love doesn't walk away, people do.

"Your life is like a river. If you’re aiming for a goal that isn't your destiny, you will always be swimming against the current. Young Gandhi wants to be a stock car racer? Not gonna happen. Little Anne Frank wants to be a high school teacher? Tough Anne. That's not your destiny. But you will go on to move the hearts and minds of millions. Find out what your destiny is and the river will carry you. Sometimes events in life give an individual clues as to where their destiny lies."

"My teacher in first grade said that long ago people used to believe all kinds of things, because they didn’t know any better. Like you shouldn’t take a bath because it could make you sick and then someone saw germs under a microscope and started to think differently. You can believe something really hard, and still be wrong."
Jodi Picoult, Keeping Faith

"So, you’re probably looking at this and making fun of my outfit, right? Anyway, here’s all you really need to know about today: if you’re fat, dumb, sexual, and a guy, you’re okay. If you’re a girl, not so much. Please tell me that’s changed in the future. Somebody tell me you’ve got love figured out, because I’ve got news for you, it’s pretty darn messy right now. But I guess it’s always been that way. Wanting to be loved, to find somebody that makes your heart ache in a good way.. feel understood. So if you’re robots, or aliens, or something and you’re watching this right now and that feeling no longer exists, well, you missed it. And I feel sorry for you. ‘Cause as far as I can tell, that’s what it’s all about. And that’s what it should be about."

"When you’re young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then you grow up and learn to be cautious, you could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap, and sometimes you don’t leap at all because there’s not always someone there to catch you. In life, there’s no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?"

"I think that if I ever have kids and they’re upset, I won’t tell them that people are starving in China or something like that because it wouldn’t change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn’t really change the fact that you have what you have."

"History is largely told as a chronicle of great people doing great things, but for most of us life is not made up of big moments, it's made up of small moments. And with every small choice, with every small decision, we are defining ourselves. Are we proud of ourselves, or are we disappointed by who we've become? Life rarely turns out the way that we planned. The unexpected happens, and it surprises us with new and exciting possibilities."

"Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too - even when you're in the dark. Even when you're falling."

Mal: "I'm the only thing you do believe in anymore."
Cobb: "I wish. I wish more than anything. But I can't imagine you with all your complexity, all you perfection, all your imperfection. Look at you. You are just a shade of my real wife. You're the best I can do; but I'm sorry, you are just not good enough."

"Every night I empty my heart, but by morning it’s full again. Slow droplets of you seep in through the night’s soft caress. At dawn I overflow with thoughts of us, an aching pleasure that gives me no respite. Love cannot be contained, the neat packaging of desire splits asunder, spilling crimson through my days. Long languishing days that are now bruised tender with yearning, spent searching for a fingerprint, a scent, a breath you left behind."

Leslie: "Love is not negotiable."
Christopher: "Baby, everything is negotiable. "
Leslie: "No, not love. Not love. Love is a guessing game, and that's the beauty of it. There's no guarantees. It's like diving into a pool of water without knowing if it's shallow or deep. And sure, yeah, if it's shallow you end up hurt and paralyzed from the neck down, but if it's deep...you know. It's a leap of faith! It's like...it's like throwing yourself out there without any guarantees, dude, and that's what's life's about! Okay, you know those carnival games, right? And you know how some of them are really hard to win, and some of them are super easy and everyone wins?"
Christopher: "Sure."
Leslie: "Well, it's just that's the difference between love and sex. Sex is the game where everyone wins the little prize, and no one goes home a loser. And love is the game that's really hard to win, but if you do, and you get to take home that life-size stuffed rhinoceros, that feels a whole lot better than taking home a shitty little plastic keychain."
