1. Somehow, they ended up fighting back to back against the hordes.
2. Near the end of battle, her leg gave out, and he stood over her until nothing was left standing... then collapsed beside her when he went into the post-rage exhaustion.
3. They lay beside each other, bloody and mostly naked, for they don't know how many hours, before he finally got up the energy to carry her home.
4. Somewhere in the process, the mix of battle camaraderie, and the laying together that long had ended up comfortable enough that, instead of going their own ways, he just lay down with her in more settled surroundings.
5. Once they'd both eaten and rested, they did a whole lot more laying together - but it was a lot less restful.
