History: Vanessa was born to a wealthy, well-to-do family, the Canes, in New York City. Her father, Timothy, was a well respected businessman, CEO and owner of Cane Industries, and her mother, Samantha, a well known socialite that volunteered and ran several charitable organizations. Vanessa had a happy childhood growing up the family's penthouse Fifth Avenue apartment, chasing after her older brother, Jason, whom she looked up to. From the time she was five, Vanessa knew what she wanted to, grow up to be smart and go to work for Daddy's company. Timothy would laugh at this whenever she'd say anything, as he fully intended on Jason taking over the company one day, and wanted Vanessa to settle down with a nice Harvard boy and devote her time to charity work, like her mother, than have his little girl run a big company.
Vanessa's happy childhood came screeching to a sudden halt when she was ten-years-old. Robert Young (Uncle Bobby to Vanessa), a longtime business partner of her father's, decided that he was sick and tired of playing second fiddle to Timothy. Using his connections in the Italian mafia, he ordered hit out on Timothy, Samantha, and Jason. He didn't expect any trouble from the Vanessa, figuring that she'd be shuffled off on a relative and just spend her family's money when she turned of age. One night in December, when the Canes were having their family movie night, a gunman kicked down the penthouse door...and shot Timothy, Samantha, and Jason to death. Vanessa screamed, cried, begged the man to stop, but nothing. She was helpless as she watched her family die in front of her.
Following her families' death, Vanessa was taken in by Vincent Harper, a close first cousin of Timothy's. Vincent arranged for therapists to come and talk to Vanessa, as a way to help her cope with her grief. The more Vanessa talked to the therapists, she began to get less sorrowful....and more angrier my the minute. While she wished that it had never happened, there was something else that she wanted.
Vanessa wanted revenge. She began to pester Vincent to take karate lessons. Vincent, being fairly well-off himself, hired one of the best senseis in the world to teach Vanessa. She took to it quickly, as she wanted to find her parents killer using whatever it took to stop them...once and for all.
Vanessa inherited her family's estate in full, including several shares in Cane Industries, when she was eighteen years old.
During her time as a student at Columbia University, Vanessa began to investigate who could have taken out her family. |
