Narcissa didn't tell anyone about her engagement.

After all, it had only been a few days that she'd been proposed to by Lucius. The Malfoys were already informed of everything, but the Black family were a bit more complicated than that. After all, Narcissa had been all set to start courting with Evan Rosier, who she had no intentions of ever dating. Ever. She didn't want the life as a Death Eater's wife - she wanted to be a Malfoy. She had even spent the past few nights in Lucius's bed. They never did anything, since Lucius insisted on waiting until they got married, but it was still so nice to stay close to him.

She knew, however, that she had to get out of bed with him and actually see the light of day every so often. So, she planned a visit to see her older sister Andromeda. It had been too long, after all, since she'd had a good talk with her sister - and she was the first person that she wanted to tell about her engagement, out of all of her family. (Even if Lucius had been on his sister's suitor list.)

Narcissa played with the ring on her finger, fidgeting slightly as she made her way up the Ministry elevator until she reached Andromeda.

"Yes, I suppose that's true," Andy said, nodding. Perhaps she'd tell her family after all that she was engaged to a muggle born. She really felt as though her life would end if Ted weren't in it any longer, and she certainly didn't want to feel that way.

"In any case, I'm happy for you, Cissa. Really."

Because they were in the stairwell, a private place as any (Narcissa made sure to look to see if anyone was watching), Narcissa reached forward to hug her sister tight. "Thanks, Andy."

Andy gladly accepted the hug, knowing it was a rare occurrence, and the situation certainly warranted the physical affection. She sighed before letting her go, smiling at her one last time.

"Shall we eat now?"

She grinned. "Of course," Narcissa said, making her way into the elevator with her sister. "How is everything here?" she asked once they were in.

"It's all right, I suppose," she shrugged, pressing the button for the exit. "The Minister keeps hitting on me, which I suppose is flattering, but he's awfully disgusting. And then Ted Tonks, the poor bastard, keeps asking me out to lunch. I don't know what to do."

"Of course the Minister is hitting on you; you're a Black. I would expect nothing less, disgusting or not," Narcissa mused with a laugh. At the mention of Ted Tonks, though, she rolled her eyes. "Tell him to stop bothering you. You don't need that to distract you from anything."

"I mean, I suppose he's nice," Andy said about Ted, not really knowing why she brought him up in the first place. Maybe she wanted to tell someone. She knew, though, that no one in her family would support her. Except perhaps Sirius. He'd always been much more tolerant. Of course, he was still 16, but still. It was better than having no one.

"But I also suppose you're right."

She shook her head. "He's a git," Narcissa said with great distaste. "You don't need to waste your time with him, Andromeda. You have much better people to be spending time with." She sighed. "It's not like I have to tell you that, though."

"No, I know," She said softly, looking away, pretending to look for their restaurant.

"Where do you want to eat?"

"Wherever!" she said cheerfully. "Where do you feel like, Andy?"

"I'm not sure," she said honestly, thinking about it for a moment.

"What about the little place in Diagon that's right by Gringotts? The small one? You know where I mean?"

"I think I do. That lovely little bistro?" she asked, looking over at her sister fondly.

"Of course, that one," Andy agreed, looking back just as fondly. "It's wonderful, isn't it?"

"It's so charming," she agreed with a soft sigh, taking a step out of the elevator and towards the exit of the Ministry. "It looks like you need a day out on the town," Narcissa informed Andy, examining her. "You're overworked."

"A holiday would be rather nice," Andy admitted, laughing a bit. "I just get so busy, you know? How's school? Doing well?"

She rolled her eyes with an extremely dramatic sigh. "Horrible. I want to be finished. Dumbledore keeps badgering me about everything, all of the Slytherin girls are jealous of me, Slughorn wants in everyone's pants, and I think that they're all going to be chittering away when they hear about the engagement."

Andy made a face in sympathy. It had been like that when she was in school, since Bella had already graduated by the time she was a fifth year and Narcissa was only in second year. Every single thing she did was gossiped about, and she was ecstatic when she got to leave.

"Sometimes I wish we had gone to Beauxbatons," she sighed. "I'm sure the French don't give a damn what we do."

She shook her head. "The French wouldn't have cared in the slightest about blood status. We're English, they're French. There's a big difference, Andromeda," Narcissa said with a sigh. "They wouldn't have cared. Mother still would have, though."

"I know," Andromeda sighed. "That's why I wish we could have gone there. It would have been wonderful, not to have anyone wondering what we were doing all the time. Don't you think? "

She smiled a bit over at her sister and nodded. "Yeah. It would have been a lot simpler, wouldn't it?" Narcissa countered, however, "But then no one would have paid us any attention at all. We wouldn't be as important anymore."

"Don't you ever get tired of it?" Andy asked. "I mean, having to look a certain way and act a certain way and flirt with certain people? I'm tired of it. I just want to live my life without someone thinking that I'm going to curse them if they say something wrong, you know? I don't like being important."

She pursed her lips to the side in thought. "I don't know, Andy. Being important has a lot of perks. To be honest, I sort of like that I'll never have to worry about things like money or status. It's not a bad place to be."

"I suppose, but you also have Lucius, who loves you," Andy said. "What if I get some awful Rosier? You know how I feel about Death Eaters, Cissa. I can't stand them. I think it's disgusting. I couldn't stand to be married to one."

"Lucius would rather jump out of a window than join the Death Eaters. There are still a few good men out there that will be perfect for you, Andy. You don't need to worry about it. Mother won't make you go for a Rosier." She reached for her sister's hand, trying to be encouraging.

"I hope not," she sighed, taking her sister's hand. "I don't know what I'd do, Cissa. Sometimes I just feel as though I'm not supposed to marry who mother wants me to marry."

She raised an eyebrow. "Mother wanted me to marry Evan Rosier. When she finds out that I'm marrying Lucius Malfoy instead, I think she'll be a little confused. If I can get away with this, I'm sure you can get away from your list, too."

She grinned. "There's always an upgrade out there. Even if Mother hasn't thought of him," Narcissa told her sister confidently.
