The moment Kiba left and there was no big, bad watchdog by his side. No, really. He had been steadily growing a set the day the first camera flashed in his face. For a little kid he didn't take any shit, but you got to imagine that sort of thing would be scary. It started there and grew to when he'd gone off to high school and met big kids who also didn't take any shit. They caused it, too. There's bad people all around and he was just this kid.

Short. Marked up face. Everyone liked to have a go and he could be as strong on the inside as he wanted. It didn't make it go away. Then there was Kiba. Who for some reason became Naruto's friend. And there was Tenten. Who became his love interest. High school wasn't so bad after that and to be completely honest he became very dependent on the way Kiba stuck up for him. He learned from that, though. How to talk someone down and not be bullied. LIFE EXPERIENCE FTW.

With time Kiba went bye bye and Naruto had to handle that slight dip in his confidence. There was still Tenten and their friendship was so much more important than a crush he had back when he was a kid. I'm not sure the time it happened, but the trigger that got flicked on to turn him from feeble to macho was when Tenten's first timer did her over and ran. Naruto didn't like that.

Time the balls grew to completion: When he hunted down the fucker, knocked on his door, and right when the bastard opened the door he dragged him out into the street and punched him. Many, many times.

... The guy ran and brought back a pipe.

Naruto's balls were still intact when he limped up to Tenny's door all bloody and a knee slightly shattered. Smiling.

Oh. And he did so much worse than that to the guy. You don't fuck with the Uzumaki's herd gdit.
