There was a sense of urgency left in Cygnus' last owl that sent Sirius' mind whirling to every hateful insult once spat at his Uncle during adolescence. And again, only moments before. "I didn't mean to," was no longer a valid excuse -- not when the safety of the only man Sirius truly cared for was now at risk, and those words would be left lingering between them.

With the note clutched tightly in hand, Sirius apparated from the small dingy flat he had recently taken refuge in to the hallway of his Uncle's estate. It was there he'd now take refuge; it was there Sirius would stand stubbornly, not for the family in which Cygnus represented but instead his own love, fighting tooth-and-nail for the life Cygnus deserved to continue living.

No words were made to announce his arrival, and no noise other than the brisk footsteps it took to carry him from where he had appeared to where he now stood; before the door, waiting.

The years spent apart had tempered Sirius' nature, had seen him become more Sirius than he'd ever been while still recognized by his kin. Neither of them could know that their thoughts briefly travelled in the same direction, as Cygnus, too, wondered how easily the Sirius who now stood staunchly before him could be removed from the family, as he'd been so many years ago. Stubborn, headstrong, it appeared nothing had changed in Sirius -- nothing, and everything. Getting rid of him, as the young man put it, would be impossibly difficult.

Still, Cygnus' hand on his shoulder remained where it was, fingers tightening into the cloth and the flesh beneath it in response to the tension he could feel gathering in his nephew's frame. "You don't understand," he said, words made sharp not out of hatred, but a very real fear that'd cracked through the shield Cygnus usually employed against it, and now seeped through his entire being.

"What will you try, Sirius? No--" He shook his head and brought himself another step forward, thus forcing Sirius another step back. "No time for this. This the worst place you could be right now. I need you to go. Now."
