[Two hands - both gloved - come out and snatch the fake-self by the collar at the very same moment that all of Allen's balance (what little there is left of it) is drastically shifted and suddenly the floor is coming up really fast.

Naturally, the thing to do is twist so that the fake-self is the one to land first. Fake-selves get the privilege of breaking falls, don't you know.]
