Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
A short walk from our flat is a statue of Mohatma Gandhi, and it is worn from all of the years of sitting there, staring out from his perch in Tavistock Square, looking at a very normal street that then leads past him into the heart of Bloombury, the little Italian restaurant where my mum and I go when she's had a bad day and can't bring herself to cook, since they have these big breadsticks that she likes to dip in alfredo sauce and I can get her to laugh by wiggling it by my lips like it's a cigar, and I'm Groucho Marx, and then it goes past the turn for the little news stand next to the Russell Square station, which is on the Blue line. Or you can go the other way, up the street, and it will take you to Euston, the huge station, where you can grab the brown line, which takes you right to Charing Cross which I use to go to see Parliament, and I love to sit in on PM's Question Hour and watch all of the MPs yell at each other in the name of the Crown, but what I love best of all is to sit outside of Parliament and watch Big Ben, waiting for the chimes to strike, and I'll sit out and wait for a whole half-hour, because something that beautiful, the way those bells ring through all the city if you just listen, it just begs you to bear witness, and not just once, because beauty should never be a one time thing, just as joy should be everlasting, like ripples in an ocean, that eventually evaporate, but not until it has shook its way through every atom and changing it with the experience of being so utterly perfect, if only for a moment.

I love being home.

Private to Mellie and Nev!
Hi!! Oh, isn't it so lovely to be home! Mummy and I spend all of my first night watching Blackadder videos and she braided my hair in the best way and she showed me the new pharoah exhibit, which is so breathtaking, I can hardly hold on to my words when I see it. I've already gone to my favourite pancake shoppe, the one right by the museum, and to Safeway to stock up on all of my favourite foods, since Mum wasn't sure what to get, since I like all kinds of things, like right now, I like to mix Wheatabix with blueberry jam and put in a little bit of orange juice with vanilla ice cream, which is so delicious, like one of those lollies that are fruits in cream, but better, because it is orange, which is such a lovely, cherry colour, it reminds me of August days around five in the afternoon, and it tastes like summer, too which is the most lovely taste in the world, like a dessert that you eat out of the most beautiful dish in the world, a glass one of all of the colours of the rainbow that you can barely finish, but you'd rather be bursting at the seams than not finish it at all.

Anyway, Mum thought it would be smart for me to just let you all know, since we live in a rather busy Muggle neighbourhood, that you should disapparate right inside of our entrance door, since then you have to go up two flights of stairs to get up to our flat door, which is very common on our street, so you don't need to feel like you are interrupting at all. You can come any time, without saying, but if I am not home, I'll leave a note on the door, because it would be rude of me to extend such an invitation and then leave you with the possibility of sitting there without me.

I miss you both! I can't wait to see you, though I know that you have things to do during Christmas that are brilliant, and I send you so much love and excitement as you do them, as if every word I write has energy in it, giving you big hugs. Cheers!

/hex!

But it's the thought that counts, yeah? If you could see it happening inside your mind, sometimes that's better than it happening out where we can all really see it.

Are you going to make reindeer and Father Christmas this year? I love holiday shapes!

A cape would be fantastic. Do you reckon we should make a cape when I come over? With lots of polka dots?

The things that I see in my mind I don't think could ever exist in reality, but then again, the things that exist in reality...I could never have dreamed in my mind! It's a lovely tautology, don't you think?

Oh! Yes! And we have to do snowflakes...and Santa--and the reindeer has to be Rudolph, with a happy raspberry for the nose!

I think we should! Oh! I love to wear costumes when I'm in the city, since in London, most anything goes in the most wonderful ways! We should make our capes and make the cakes with the capes, and how could the rest of the day not be perfection!

I feel like I'm talking less. Is this good? Or bad. I just want to hear what you are going to say!

It is. I tend to like the things I see in my mind more, too. There's always something really fascinating about how the mind can picture something it's never really seen.

Snowflakes are the best, they're so wicked because you can make them into so many different shapes. No two snowflakes are a like.

In the city, too? And then after we wear them we should go out into the snow and show them off, yeah?

Oh, that's such a lovely way of framing it. I think that my imagination is larger than my entire mind, that it needs the whole world to roam. It's so funny that all of the things that were beyond the reach of my imagination when I was little now come true: I can turn a teacup into...well, not a hippo, but a mouse at least. I think that growing up magical must have let your mind have no limits, since...anything is really possible with magic, isn't it!

When you were small, did you ever cut snowflakes out of paper? I loved doing that! And I'd string them on the tree in garlands! I love snowflakes, I like to think that I'm a snowflake sometimes, even though all people are, really.

Well, naturally! We'll go on the tube and ride right into the heart of the city and spin around in them! Right in front of Buckingham Castle!!
