While I understand considering foreign laws has it's place-- mostly as an intellectual exorcise, perhaps regarding federal cases with utterly no precedent. However, isn't Syariah/Sharia law one of religion, and therefore has no place in a country where church does not rule the state?
Furthermore, why would local and state judges look to international laws? If it's an unprecedented case in the area, wouldn't it be easier to look to other cities, counties, or states with similar laws to see their rulings? Compare apples to apples, as it were.
