Jean-Louise had just had a lucrative couple of days on the homeworld of the Badoon Sisterhood. Such rare spacefarers were an excellent market for 'exotic' staples. Now she was back on the road. Space. Whatever.

When suddenly the ship stalled.

She rustled around in the back of the tiny cargo transport. The trouble was, in order to fix it, she had to figure out what was wrong first. She hated that. She could make all the new wires in the world, but if she didn't know where they went.....

Even with his senses, he almost missed it. It was a great distance away, but in open space, there wasn't a lot to obstruct the view.

Since not many people just sat out here in the middle of nowhere, at least no one other than those with ship troubles, or those up to no good, he decided to investigate.

Not a big or threatening enough ship to merit a call to the team, so he flies towards it himself, approaching the main viewport, rapping on the windows enough to hopefully draw attention.

It's a classic startled-upward-until-one-bumps-one's head situation. Not a happy time. Jean-Louise looks out the window, blinks at someone there (and okay, blinks again at his being a humanoid hunk), and gestures with a frown to the engine section. "Don't blame me," she says though she knows she can't be heard through window. "There's no hazard lights to turn on on this thing."

He nods his understanding, and points towards the main airlock, with an inquisitive expression. He can't sense any hint of telepathic talent from her, so unlike most of his people, he can't communicate that way, but he hopes she'll get the general idea.

She looks, nods, and the airlock will open safely as she stares at the engine looking for what broke.

"Hi," she grumbles.

"Yeah, always cool when someone does. I got the hang of a few trade-tongues okay. Jean-Louise. From Denver. You?" A loud sigh. "Might have to take you up on that, thanks. Just hate shelling out for repairs. If I could just figure out what broke, I could replace it...but I'm clueless."

"I'm afraid space ship mechanics aren't a strong suit. Iason of Olympia. You can have someone else run diagnostics without necessarily doing the repairs though. If you want to let me back out, I'll get you to a space station."

"Yeah, I guess so." A wave of the hand and the airlock unlocks again. "Nice to meet you, Iason." Realization. "Wait... you don't mean you're from Washington, do you?"

"No, I'm one of the Eternals of Earth... partially. My mother doesn't have a fixed address, so its... easier." Because everything with his mother is complicated.

He leaves it at that while he gets out to push. Thankfully, its space. Even a small transport might be difficult in atmosphere - but here, enough force the right direction, and the ship starts to move, and then starts moving fairly quickly.

As he does so, she appreciates it, but she also runs through her available notes, mental and otherwise, on what's up with the Eternals.

...Her notes on what's up with the Eternals are woefully incomplete. But they're kind of, sort of, top-knotch capes, right?

She's worried. She needs to talk to the guy before he gets the wrong idea or something. But now he's outside again. But... Jean-Louise stops herself. She breathes. She takes a long drink of water. Then another wave of her hand, and the back window opens up to him, a continuous column of air maintained as long as she concentrates. "I just want to be clear that this is a completely legit operation."

Well, that's... interesting. Useful though, and he's seen stranger things.

"Of course. If you have navigation, you can check our current heading. There's a Shi'ar station ahead. Some way off, but I don't want to risk your ship by entering warp when you don't know what's wrong for certain. So right now, strictly sub-light."

He settles in comfortably, trusting that the ship would hold up, at least long enough for him to deal with anything in the way.

"Right, that was it. Sorry for the tangent." If she were wittier, she'd say something about the resemblance being obvious, but she knew she couldn't pull it off. And he probably had a significant other who could kick Jean-Louise's ass if she didn't cheat. "You were saying about someone who could help figure out waht was wrong?"

His mother would be so pleased to find out more girls are showing interest in him, S.O. or not. Eliza on the other hand...

"Not a problem. And, during my travels with my mother, I made a number of useful contacts. I make no guarantees, but I might be able to put you in touch with someone who can recommend reputable repair shops, if nothing else. We never needed transports, so not an area of focus."

"That's really thoughtful. And yeah, I guess you wouldn't. I could never just go around without a ship all the time. I'd freak. I get nervous just stepping through a hyperspace portal I didn't even make myself. But I guess you're long-since used to it you travelled a lot as a kid with your mom."

"The pizza is... an acquired taste, its true. But they do have some wonderful soups that Earth has no direct equivalents of. As for the Shi'ar, they have some excellent sweet nectars. A lot of the food is also good, but often too spicy for most people of Earth, given the limits of the Shi'ar palate."

"The Shi'ar empire is multicultural enough that they've had to make some adjustments, but the primary imperial race has a very poor sense of taste compared to humans, except in sensitivity to sweetness. Due to their wider color perception, a lot of their higher end food is intended to be visually stimulating, as much as taste-based... but most of it tends to be very, very strong to compensate. If you're planning to sell to the Shi'ar, your best bets are fruit-based, brightly colored sweets like peach and strawberry based foods, or else things with extremely strong flavor profiles."

[info]cosmic_son

"To some degree, you're right. The Kree were a warrior race turned into a soldier race. Higher end food has not usually been a high priority, but a variety of very thick stews and other things which serve large groups fairly readily usually do well. Likewise, in many regions, there is some market for, I believe in Denver, you would refer to it as 'beers you can chew'."
