The more he learns the more he's troubled. They've guessed he was planning something big but not...not this. No matter what this was going to get messy.
"Who said anything about openly? I'm not asking you to do that you know..." And if it does go bad she still can come to him. But he doesn't say it out loud, hoping she can get the message anyway. He's here if she wants out, and he'll help.
