MILLER
1. Has a twin sister, Marcy. She's only a few minutes older, but she seems so much more mature than him. She's got her life together much better than Miller does, and she's married with two kids, a boy and a girl. Miller is an uncle! (He's not very good at it, as you can imagine. He tries to remember to send birthday cards, though.)

2. Wavers between atheism and agnosticism. He grew up in a strictly religious family and he's a bit resentful as a result. Plus, what kind of god wouldn't let his stupid soul go to rest like a normal person? Because Miller could really go without the whole reincarnation thing, honestly.

3. He doesn't hate his job as much as he lets on. It's kind of cool seeing the mini versions of some really great writers, and they are really smart kids - most of the time. And he even likes the subjects he teaches. He's just grumpy and could probably use some therapy. It's just that how do you tell your therapist "Hey, I'm actually the reincarnation of Ernest Hemingway and I'm afraid I'm going to put a gun in my mouth someday" without getting shipped off to the loony bin?

4. In that vein, he is really desperately scared he's going to go the same way as his predecessor and get into such a bad place he'll think the only way out is by ending his life. But the cycle never stops, does it, he wonders. His soul will just be recycled and someone else will have to deal with it. He feels like everyone in the town would be so much better off if they didn't know they were reincarnated. Himself included.

5. He's actually a pretty good singer, but he refuses to show interest in his musical skills to spite his mother. She was always shoving it down his throat when he was a kid, since she was a music teacher. He learned a lot from her and could probably still plunk out a few notes on the piano or a guitar, but he prefers to be a mountain man like his dad. (God, he's so grumpy.)

Unknown: If he doesn't get over himself and his fears and his bad attitude and his alcoholism, he will never have a marriage that lasts more than a few years. I can't see anyone putting up with him for more than that long.
