Flashback: Age 5
Moira and Danielle had thought of everything, they were pretty sure. They had made sure Vincent knew the boundaries of how far they were allowed to go and what they were and were not allowed to do. They'd helped tie the edges of his clothes that would too easily catch on things or drag and make noise. And now, they crept beside him in half-form. With the three of them, that grouse didn't stand a chance. Not that it would've gotten away from just the two of them, of course.

Vincent froze, turning slowly, a shielding spell readied (if it would work). "That... doth be the sound of our plight improving... or merely turning far worse..."

His eyes flit around the treeline, moving himself between the girls and it.

The large frostcolored halfwolf who stalks out of the trees with a few blood and ichor stains across his fur comes right for the children.

The girls rush past Vincent to him as he drops down.

"Are you all right, my stars?"
"Yes, Da!" they chorus.
"What happened?"
"It was an accident, Da," Moira says.

Vincent hangs back, rubbing his still ink-stained palm against his robes, head lowered slightly.

He shuffles his way towards Lord Hrimhari, undoing the bindings the girls had helped him with. "I be... most sorry, Lord Hrimhari. Twas my fault." He avoids the manwolf's eyes.

"Thou'rt excused, Vincent Amorason, if thou couldst explain how thou brought this accident about?" Hrimhari asks quietly. His hands still stroke his daughter's fur, but he's certainly looking at Vincent. It helps that he saw where you were standing just now, little boy. "T'would be best to know before the body is disposed of."

Vincent curled up his face, then looked at his palm. "I had written the runes of the spell upon my flesh so as not to forget them, and I fear I didst scratch myself in the doing so. It became a blood spell."

He huffed, annoyed with himself. "The spell was fine at first... I conjured spider silk from afar, and trapped the beast. Then I struck it with my other palm... and more was conjured about it."

His gaze flitted about nervously. "The spell... 'twas not meant to work in such a manner."

"I see." And is a little disturbed, but no more than he expected to be in explaining that. "Thou shalt be more careful about such things." It's not a question. Really, it seems less even a demand than a statement of fact.

"Best, my stars," he says, turning his attention mostly to the girls. "To hunt only in ways you can understand. 'Twas only a small fright and small waste, but still to be avoided."

"Aye, Da."

Vincent holds his tongue. This was a most spectacular failure, and his expression makes it clear he'd like nothing better at the moment than for the soil to open and swallow him whole.

"Good. No harm, then. Go with Vincent over to the water while we destroy the carcass." To Vincent. "Thou canst wash off thy hands." And he rises and heads back towards the trees.

Danielle reaches for Vincent's unscratched hand with a furry one.

Sulking, Vincent takes the hand ambles along with them to the water, scrubbing the offending spell off vigorously, drying his hands on his robes.

"I... I must make amends for my failure." That's about as directly as he can bring himself to apologize to his friends.

The girls cant their heads at them.

"Thou needn't." Moira says. "None was hurt."

Vincent grunts.

Moments later, something occurs to him. "How foul dost thou suppose it tasted, after it's transformation?" He suppresses a giggle, hoping Lord Hrimhari didn't hear that.

The girls do not believe in surpressing giggles. "Och, from the scent, fouler than words," Danielle says.

Vincent grins quietly. "Then we shouldst be glad it was thy father's jaws that rended it unto its end."

"Thou'rt very silly," Moira says, shoving playfully -- and fortunately not towards the water.

Vincent staggers from that, but regains himself. "Brilliance is oft mistaken for such." He grins, then shoves back.

Both girls giggle again. Moira presses against the shove with a bit of still-standing wrestling of sorts.

Vincent curls up his face and keeps pushing despite his weaker body compared to other Asgardians. He grunts faintly in exertion.

Halfbreed herself, Moira's still more of a physical person than Vincent in both heritage and environment. The playful struggle continues until Danielle makes a fairly canine whining noise and Moira stops pushing in order to look at her, adjust halfway-consciously just to keep from tripping.
