1. The battle had been long and had not been without heavy costs. Her brother and one of her sisters fell in the attack and had been given proper funerals.
2. Her wife had been gravely injured protecting their son and her recovery was uncertain.
3. She was far into cups of mead when Vincent sat down and talked to her.
4. Consumed by grief and worry she needed physical contact with someone.
5. The next morning she thanked him for the evening and didn't think about it again.
