He was late, that was clear. The first thing he should have done, after re-entering the atmosphere, should have been tracking Lois down. But in truth, Superman had been agonizing enough over leaving Earth unprotected, that he could hardly put the thousands of cries, in dozens of languages from his mind, as they assaulted his senses. Before he knew it, an entire day had passed.

Now, nearly 10 o'clock Metropolis time, he managed to summon up the courage (for few things genuinely frightened Superman like an angry Lois Lane) to go meet Lois.

He had hovered above her apartment building for nearly ten minutes, before deciding that landing on her balcony, like he had so many times before, was not appropriate- not tonight.

In under a minute, he was standing outside the door to her apartment, wearing a suit and tie, a bouquet of roses in his right arm. As the hallway was deserted, he was content to leave his glasses in his jacket pocket.

His fist hovered over door for what felt like an eternity, before he finally knocked.

"Heeere we go..." he whispered to himself.
