“You got me something?” Marlie beamed at her boyfriend, her hands playing with the bow of the present that was sitting in front of her. Dan just smiled nervously, rubbing a hand at the back of his neck. “Was I not supposed to?” “Oh! No, I just…I didn’t think you remembered. Well, not that I thought you forgot but…nevermind, I’m just shutting up now.” Giving a sheepish smile of her own, she pushed her bangs away from her bright blue eyes, her fingers moving across the top of the box. It was her birthday, and they were sitting in his car, where he had been keeping the gift in the back seat. “Should I open it or something?” “Well, that’s usually the next step.” She giggled a little bit, and then began to tear at the paper that was covering her gift, gasping at the sight of the beautiful necklace that was inside. “…I love it!”
