WELL this is a huge question really and i have an update in the works about it and also there's the question of well, why can't it be both? it depends whether you consider those things to be external to his personality or part of it. basically he fits most of the criteria for antisocial personality disorder/sociopathy, apart from promiscuity, but these things get more difficult to determine when you're considering someone of extremely high intelligence, because a lot of the issues relating to and forming emotional connections with people could easily be to do with the fact that he genuinely does function on a completely different level from most people and it's super difficult for him to know how to think in any other way than he already does. he doesn't deliberately go out of his way to hurt anyone, he doesn't care about that, and he's not indifferent/distant from people because of any past trauma or anything like that and it's not out of fear, it really is that he's so far been incapable of it and all his 'friendships' are unhealthy as anything because he can't do anything else. SO THE SHORT ANSWER IS he's super-intelligent and probably a sociopath but that's... just how he is

and i'm sorry for how long this got, it's something i've thought a great deal about in probably too much depth and i could go on for days about it
