Image i haven't been following kony 2012 at all since its cropped up within the last couple of days but i've always heard the sketchiest shit about invisible children over the past few years I KNOW YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE BUT WOULD YOU CARE TO ENLIGHTEN ME FURTHER

i think it's kind of telling that the celebs that seemed connected with ic are less and less involved now

i don't even know what to think anymore. i personally don't have any money to donate either way so all i could do is spread the word that there's an issue, but i think perhaps while ic have good intentions they're naive and perhaps aren't looking into different ways of doing things? i know a lot of the people that support it really do have good intentions though

yeah i mean from what i've gathered it's important that the information about kony gets out there, which is why it's great the video went viral and raised awareness, but i think it spread this false belief that the only (or the best) way to stop his terrorism is through ic when that's not true at all. and as much as i'd like to believe ic is a pure-hearted organization, i really don't think anything about how they're suggesting to handle the situation is naive or innocent at all

i agree with this. the post has its valid points but it's also somewhat misinformed, like the part about the military aspect

i don't think it's misinformed, i read the linked articles and i guess it's a matter of opinion, it's choosing to believe what ic says vs. what ic has supported and acted on in the past

but it's been said they're not sending troops in at all. it's like a hundred strategists to teach the army there and the post is making it sound like we're attempting to pull another irag invasion

what stood out to me the most was "The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces." i don't think the post alludes to direct AMERICAN military intervention, there's an entire paragraph that talks about ic's support of sudan people's liberation army and that's where the problem is

yeah i don't know where they're going with that because they're never endorsed military action and the thing passed by obama specifically started they're not to be involved with the military it's just advisors. idk i'll be honest and say that most of what i know about ic is from the celebs i follow like ryan gosling or kristen bell who really does have genuine intentions and idt either of them have ever endorsed military action because they make a big deal about ~power of love~ and non action and i highly doubt they're corrupt and shady. but like i said, all i can personally do is pay attention to the cause and look into it more

same. that's really all i can offer in return i'm sorry because you basically just said what i would anyway, that the celebs i pay attention to who support it have genuine intentions to make a change and want other people to become aware as well, etc etc

i don't think anyone could doubt how genuinely kbell wants to help after her charity water video because she's not that great an actress to fake that kind of sincere breakdown, plus she put like $30000 of her own money into that. but like i was saying i think maybe ic do oversimplify the issue and are misguided in their aims
