i love thg but i just watched battle royale out of curiosity last weekend and the similarities were pretty glaringly obvious except i don't think there was a love triangle did the author of thg steal from that plot?

that anon was overexaggerating but i've read plenty of short stories and even a couple of novels with strikingly similar plots, maybe not identically so but you can see the ideas circulating? thg isn't innovative, nobody claimed it was, but you asked if it was stolen and it wasn't...

i meant just the dystopian last person standing competition is a common trope but the children part obviously isn't always copied, but it is sometimes, and she has even said it was a huge influence so everything is influenced by everything

i love battle royale but that premise has been floating around even before the novel was published, i think that thg is very similar but i wouldn't call it stealing per se

i like battle royale more because the girls in it were more kick ass than katniss even if they all died...

did battle royale make a big deal about the publicity of it? i use audiobooks since it's easier for me and at the end of thg one she talks about how she based it off of reality tv shows as well as greek stories idk ia with the anons saying nothing's original

not oc but they didn't, it's just been brought up a lot because that's the main comparison people can think of (kids killing other kids) but idk it's not like thg is an adaptation of battle royale. the first book as a standalone maybe but even then you can see that the games are just a plot point to the bigger plot in mockingjay
