UNITED vs. CANNONSSeems like to this sports writer that the United had worked on their math this weekend, perfectly executing their goal scoring and snitch catching to give the team an even 4000 points. After starting the season off with a match where they literally sat on their brooms and did nothing, also
scoring nothing, the United have showed that they are not as aged as the critics like to say, and that experience is what gets you to the top of the league.
MAGPIES vs. HARPIESThe Magpies had more than a playoff position to lose last night: their egos were on the line. If they didn't manage to outscore the Falcons and secure fourth place, they would have to deal with their former beater and Captain
Seth Wadcock having the last laugh. Fortunately for the 'Pies, they managed to keep the hot and cold Harpies down and secured their position. Now they get to face the Falcons in the first round of the playoffs. Vengeance, anyone?
TORNADOES vs. FALCONSWith all the dramatics chaser Maggie Brand has brought to the team this season (disappearing mid match, getting jilted at the altar by rival Catapults beater
Adrian Mattias), this
hail storm of a team took to the pitch with one goal and that was to take down the Falcons, who have been running their mouths. The Falcons have been looking good since Wadcock has joined the team, but the beater's presence was not enough too defeat the Tornadoes. The pink and blue hair might be the ticket to the cup!
PRIDE vs. ARROWSThe Pride have had their many ups and downs this seasons (and downs..and downs...), but with a new vigor found in seeker
Arista Sykes (who was seen shouting at all of her teammates throughout the match) they defeated the arrows in a spectacular display. The Arrows barely scraped into the playoffs, but the Pride have a lot to prove and hopefully this new vigor will stay with them as they are very exciting to watch!
CATAPULTS vs. WANDERERSWith first place just a mere ten points away, the Catapults wasted no time in garnering a lead against the Wanderers. Seeker
Vinny Gudgeon feigned a few snitch dives to keep the Wanderer seeker at bay, but after securing a big enough lead to push them a decent amount in front of the Kestrels, Gudgeon made the swipe. The Catapults are another professional and proud team, so it will be interesting to see how they deal with the rough and rowdy crowd of the rest of their league!
KESTRELS vs. WASPSIn the most anticipated match of the weekend, the Kestrels took on the faltering Wasps to attem to secure their spot at the top of Occamy. Playing after the Caerphilly/Wigtown match, the Kestrels had the leg up in knowing what exactly they needed to score, but the Wasps were not ready to help them out. It took a grueling two hours for the Kestrels to reach the necessary goals, but a sharply hit bludger to the tail of Wasps' seeker
Iwan Quigley from Kestrel
Felicia Bulstrode allowed her seeker boyfriend
Kendall Broadmoor to swoop in and snatch the snitch, and also the number one spot in Occamy.
The Kestrels celebrated like everyone assumed they would: loudly and with vigor. Captain
Axebanger let his rough demeanor fall and locked lips (literally!) with all of his players, excluding chasers
Zoey Moran and
Joey Jenkins, who were too busy snogging in midair to notice the rest of the celebrations. Seems like all you need is love to win a league title, folks!
Tune in next week when the 1982 playoffs begin with a bang!
