Short and Sweet Pitch Side Report - Mid Game Kestrels vs. Cannons
"Exciting news from the Cannon's pitch of all places. Looks like Geoffery Brand is back in the game. With his cooperation in helping bring down the game fixing gambling ring, the British and Irish Quidditch League has lifted his suspension. Cannons, always desperate to get decent players on their side of the pitch seemed to think the risk of taking Brand on was worth it.

Though with the Kestrels currently leading 200-0, its doesn't seem that it will be enough to break the Cannon's record long losing streak. Perhaps with a few more practices, Brand and the rest of the Cannons will be able to pull together a team that can compete, but I don't expect much, even Summerby couldn't manage to pull up their tragic win percentage. I'll try to manage to grab a comment from Brand after the snitch is caught, but with the brush off I got before the match, I find it unlikely. This is Charlotte Sweeting reporting live from Kenmare."

Former Quidditch Stars to Provide Expert Commentary!

Former all-stars and teammates Finn McLaggen and Martin Boot will be teaming up to provide color commentary during this season's match-ups! McLaggen and Boot spent three years together on the Puddlemere United, bringing home two league cups.

"I'm very excited to get back into the game, even if it's not on a broomstick," McLaggen said to the press. "You couldn't keep me away for long!" Rumors had been swirling that McLaggen was preparing to take on a managerial role, but the former world-class seeker has stated that he'd rather watch and talk about the game than deal with the the business aspect. "That would take out all the fun, wouldn't it?"

Boot is more than excited about coming back to the game. His wife, Nicole Bardera-Boot, is a starting chaser for the Harpies, and providing commentary for their matches is what he's anticipating the most.

"She says I'm not allowed!" he said, causing a great laugh with the journalists. "But I'm going to get in there, don't you worry. How could I not?! I have so many stories to add, it'll be great for the the ratings!"

Both McLaggen and Boot have stated that one of the main reasons for retiring was their family, and that their new positions at the WWN allow them to stay in touch with the game they love so much and give them time for their wives and children.

How do you think these former players will do? Let us know!

Sumpter announces immediate retirement!

Breaking news that is sure to leave the Wizarding World in a tizzy - West Sumpter, long-time Captain of the Tutshill Tornadoes, has revealed that he will not be returning to the pitch this year!

"It's really just about juggling my priorities," Sumpter explained in a frank interview that he called outside the Tornadoes locker room, "I need to focus on my family. I know I might not look it, but I'm really getting to be quite a daft old man. I'll still be working with the team on a consultative basis, for when the young bucks need a good riding to show them what's what."

Despite Sumpter's cheeky attitude, rumours are flying that Sumpter's long-time partner, Griffith Kirkham, demanded that he retire because of allegations that he had been fraternizing with potential new talent. The question on everyone's mind, though, is who will be selected to replace Tutshill's iconic Captain? They will certainly have grand shoes to fill.

MAGPIES ANNOUNCE NEW CAPTAIN

With preseason beginning this Monday, the Montrose Magpies have only a few days left to announce their starting line-up for the year. While still not complete, and most likely will not be until the earliest Monday morning, a major position has been filled.

Today the Magpies announced the signing of Adrian Mattias, formerly of Puddlemere United, who filling in the role Beater and Captain for the team in the upcoming season.

"It's a great honor," Mattias spoke as the press conference in Montrose earlier this morning.

When asked about how he feels concerning his arrival to Montrose, he simply responded, "I was born in Montrose, and I have been living here for a couple of years now with my wife and children. So I am very honored to be asked home again and hope I will be able uphold the Magpies' tradition of excellence set before me."

Mattias will have big shoes to fill, as both his father and sister, Hamish and Odette MacFarlan, lead the team to championship titles while at the teams' helm themselves.

You can expect to see Mattias and the rest of the Magpies this June at the beginning of the season!

Saoirse Mullet, Free Agent

Winning both a league championship and a world championship within the past season alone, it is safe to say that Irish chaser Saoirse Mullet has become one of the most valuable players in the British & Irish League this year.

And, come June this summer, she may very well be flying under different colors other than the Arrow's blue and silver.

Mullet's two-year contract with the Appleby Arrows has ended, leaving one of the league's most talented player up for grabs by any of the thirteen league teams.

With just two weeks left before preseason, it is still unclear where the chaser will end up. No official statements have been made.

Mullet could not be reached for comment.

Breaking News! Comstock Retires?
The Pride has lost one of their stars!

Ollie Comstock, starting chaser for the Pride of Portree, has announced that he will not be joining his team on the pitch this season. His agent, Phoebe Smethwyck, held a small press conference in Venice, Italy, where Comstock is reportedly living at the moment.

"Mr. Comstock has made the very difficult decision to step away from the quidditch pitch. This decision was not made lightly, and our team would like to request respect for his privacy. He wishes his former teammates on the Pride of Portree the best of luck in the upcoming season."

When asked if Comstock was hanging up his broomstick forever, Smethwyck had this to say:

"Never say never. Ollie simply wants time to focus on other things in life, don't think you've seen the last of him."
