Ship meme! Comments are love.
1. List your top seven ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your favorite.
3. Name their fandom.
4. Supply photos for said people.

1. Doctor Who: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Photobucket
My only Who OTP. Ian and Barbara really are just perfect for each other. Their story goes something like this: two very proper English schoolteachers from 1963 get kidnapped by the Doctor. Their life with the Doctor is as always an exceedingly hectic one, and their mutual dependence on each other is often the only thing that gets them through. In an increasingly alien life, they keep each other human. The sexual tension is palpable. The love is obvious.
Seriously. Just look at the picture.
And in the EU, they get married! Yay canon ships!

Oh! Also! BEST SCREENCAP EVAR.
Photobucket
Trufax.

2. The Dresden Files: Harry Dresden/Karrin Murphy
Photobucket
He's a sarcastic, awkward wizard. She's a sarcastic, badass cop. THEY HAVE SEX FIGHT CRIME. That is all.
Well, no, it's not. Harry and Murphy really are perfect for each other. They have a "fighting...or foreplay" relationship that never fails to make me giggle. Their senses of humor are perfectly matched, they're such good friends that it's very difficult to come between them, and they trust each other completely. Now if they'd only have sex everything would be perfect.
Hint, Jim. Hint.

3. The Dresden Files: Maggie Dresden/Malcolm Dresden
No official picture for these guys at all, so you get my personal casting.
Photobucket Photobucket
I believe that Margaret Dresden loved Malcolm Dresden. I believe it so much that I am writing an epic fic about it. Mostly, I believe it because I'm a sucker for a tragic love story, but also because I don't think that she could not have loved him. Basically, I ship it like burning with absolutely no canon proof (beyond, y'know, their son). But screw it! Epic tragic love stories are awesome. You know they are. Besides, it's just so painful to think that Maggie found someone she loved who could and did love her in return, only to find out that her past would never let her go, only to learn that she'd found this absolute, perfect, wonderful love at the very end of her life. It hurts, doesn't it? It hurts so good.

4. Discworld: Sam Vimes/Sybil Ramkin Vimes
There is no offical art of these two together, so have some fanart instead. This belongs to H0lyhandgrenade on deviantart.
Sam and Sybil Vimes. Theirs is a less fluffily romantic love than most of the other ones I ship, mostly because it's Terry Pratchett writing them, but they are no less in love for that. It's an unlikely pairing, too: an unshaven ex-alcoholic hardass cop with an ingrained suspicion of aristocracy, and a lady more highly bred than a hilltop bakery with grace, class, and a heart big enough for the whole world. Somehow, it's all the more compelling for its unlikeliness. Vimes treats Sybil with this sort of half-stunned awe that he ever managed to attract her, and Sybil is amused that he could ever question it. As of the last book, they're still happily married despite Vimes's...peculiarities...and have a year-old son named Young Sam, or Wee Sam, or Ickle Vimes, or Mini!Vimes. It's really sweet.

5. The X-files: Fox Mulder/Dana Scully
Photobucket
Ahem.
Yes. Well. You may have noticed that I'm also a sucker for UST. Well, these two are the ultimate in UST. Five years without so much as a kiss, people! Five long years of smoldering looks and tentative hand-holding and the occasional intense hug. Finally we got a kiss, only to get it interrupted by that goddamn bee. Then, three years later, just when it looked like we were finally getting somewhere, Mulder gets abducted. Thanks, genius. However! As of the last movie, they are evidently firmly together and Scully's son has finally been acknowledged as Mulder's child (as if we had any doubt). Our Heroes are finally together. Thank God.

6. Jane Austen: Anne Elliot/Frederick Wentworth
Photobucket
So! Thus far we've established that I'm a sucker for UST and for epic tragic romances. I'm also a sucker for happy endings. Jane Austen manages to provide all three in Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth. Deal is, eight years ago they were engaged, but Anne broke it off on the advice of her mother figure. Wentworth goes off to sea and comes back eight years later determined to prove to everyone that he's forgotten Anne (he hasn't). By the time he gets his head out of his ass, Anne has decided he no longer loves her (Wentworth: Wait, wait, I changed my mind!...aw, fuck) and is semi-sorta-kinda-maybe going to consider marrying her cousin, Mr. Elliot. There are several chapters of delicious, delicious angst, then Wentworth finally 'fesses up in a letter, and our hero and heroine get their happy ending. This picture is from my favorite movie version of the novel, in which Anne and Wentworth (played by Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds) are so very close and so very far apart in just about every scene, until the very end when he finally takes her hand and gives her this slight, chaste kiss and wow. It's an enormous, amazing release of tension. Beautifully done.
This book, incidentally, also contains Admiral and Sophie Croft, who are another of my hardcore OTPs, but there was no room for them. I'll just give them a quick mention and some love here, and move on to Aral and Cordelia Vorkosigan, who are basically Admiral and Sophie Croft only more sci-fi and more badass. Speaking of!

7. The Vorkosigan Saga: Countess Captain Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan/Admiral Count Aral Vorkosigan
Total lack of art. TOTAL LACK OF ART. MAN. Pris, Terry, somebody talented, fix this! Have the reasonably not-lame cover with their faces on it to tide you over while I badger someone into making better art.
Photobucket
Oh, man, where can I even start with these two. Theirs begins as an epic tragic romance, and is ticking along nicely until Cordelia, who is badass personified, decides to just fuck that shit and kicks a lot of people until she ends up married to Aral. Then, a nasty gentleman tries, in order, to torpedo their marriage, to kill Aral, and to kill their son. Cordelia can't be having with that and goes Queen of Hearts on his ass. Nobody tries again. Ever. Incidentally, Aral thinks it's hot when his wife shows her badass. Seriously. I am not making this up. People lampshade it a lot.
The thing I love about Cordelia and Aral, aside from Cordelia's general badassitude and Aral's attraction to it, is that while they come from very different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and have vastly different experiences, they still manage to combine their strengths, make the best of both worlds, deal with obstacles, rule planets, occasionally kill some motherfuckers and light some of their shit on fire, and maintain a completely stable and happy marriage on top of all that. As of the most recent book, they have been happily married for thirty-two years and are still going strong through fire, flood, and all hell breaking loose, with a sweetly-written romance that peeks through Miles's story in wonderful little flashes, a rock-solid political, military and romantic partnership, and (much to their son's embarrassment) an active sex life. In short, they have exactly the kind of relationship I want out of life. It's awesome. They're awesome. Now fanart and more fic, plz.

And, of course, the traditional confession:
I ship Laurence/Granby. DON'T JUDGE ME. TEMERAIRE SHIPS IT TOO. TRUFAX.
