Consulting & Sysmon
I spent a chunk of yesterday getting Sysmon up and running. I basically went from knowing nothing about it to having a complete setup in a few hours which was great. While it does have a bit a learning process once you understand how it works it's great. So now I monitor my World of Warcraft realms, web servers, mail servers, and servers 24/7/365 and should any of these services go down I'll be notified via email and text message on my cell phone. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for and it works great! I just have to secure the web page that displays the statuses and my job will be done!
Last night I had programming class. It was to bad, we mostly just covered what types of variables Perl deals with (scalars, arrays and hashes). 3 hours of that was a bit too much for me, but oh well. At least I have my PowerBook so I can chat with people and get my own work done. I'm still looking for a secure solution (like a VPN) or SSH tunnels so they cannot spy on my activities. Not that I really have any malicious activities going on, and it's not really the school IT I am worried about...it's just for my own security.
Had some consulting in St. Albans today. I really enjoy consulting. Far more then my current job, but when Berkey left consulting was pretty much nothing and I was afraid that I would really have nothing to do, so I took my current job as a Web Content Specialist, job security. But now I would much rather be out consulting. I'll have to look some more into that. The job today was pretty simple, just semi-time consuming. I fixed a network, and verified that backups were working and a few other simple but time consuming tasks. Only took me about 3 hours which was nice.
I reserved Call of Duty 4: Collectors Edition and the Halo 3 Limited Edition. Talked to Glenn and he got to play some Assassin's Creed at the trade show he went to. He said it was absolutely awesome, and informed me that it was coming out in November, not the Spring like I had originally thought. I cannot wait for that, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Army of Two and Halo 3.
Tonight Greg and Jess are coming up and were supposed to go out to Koto with them, but apparently Greg had to work late so that's not going to work. Maybe Emilie and I will go out instead although I am not really that hungry. Just relaxing tonight!
I watched Wild Hogs this afternoon. It was pretty stupid but it did have some good funny parts. I am getting low on decent movies. Hopefully some new ones come out. I downloaded Scrapped Princess, I just have to convert it...
