Scribbld Guide

This guide is made under the presumption that you are a] technologically illiterate and b] never owned a previous LiveJournal Account. To those who have owned an LJ before, it's pretty much the same banana; and there's no harm in skipping this.

Hello! So Scribbld works exactly like an older version of LiveJournal (they're on the same client) - but there are a lot of reasons why we're using it as opposed to LiveJournal. And there are lots of reasons why we don't just 'get a forum'. Let's list them down~ (because lists are nice)

Userpics/Icons - Icons are a nice way to show how your character feels or reacts to things, thus eliminating the need to write things over and over again. It prompts artists to create expression sheets for their characters or show their appreciation of other people's art by using them in icons! While not required, it certainly adds a spark to the roleplay. One of the few reasons we chose Scribbld over LiveJournal is because LiveJournal gives you 15 icons on a free account and Scribbld gives you 50.

Usernames - it's entirely impossible to find a good username on LiveJournal. Scribbld still has a lot of good usernames up for grabs! Ideally the username of your journal, would be something affiliated with your character. In example, a character who is fond of both Flowers and Guns (Hello, Lavie) - would take up the name [info]guns_n_roses

Threaded Comments - The fact, that characters can just JUMP-IN to an going event, make the RP more engaging.

Note that if you're into layouts the theme flexible squares, smooth sailing, bloggish, etc can be ported to Scribbld.

Some samples from older roleplays between some of the mods so you understand WTF we mean~ (we'd just like to point out that these RP samples, are OLD and from panfandom CRACK roleplays - we're sorry). Also these are LiveJournal Samples, but they translate on scribbld exactly the same way.

❧ samples: how an rp would pan out, effective use of icons and how threads look.

Intrigued? Let's show you how to get set up!

Posting Guide

If your character posts in the main community ([info]ludus) or in their own journals is up to you. But these are the allowed:

VOICE | Think talking over the phone. First Person, reply as if your character was in a conversation.

TEXT | Think either, emails, text messaging or instant messaging. Your character is allowed to use 'Emotes', Chatspeak and 'Sparkletext' etc. etc. If your character carn't spel you can show this here too. Also think that the Alvarium has a blogging option, so if your character wants to talk about their day they can as well.

VIDEO | The equivalent of Video-Chatting OR VLOGGING. Don't actually post a video of yourself as your character please! You can use this method to show the setting behind your character, etc.

PICTURE | For the artists out there, you can draw/use pictures instead of words to communicate. That's no problem. You can also just describe the image. Also useful if you want to show your character wearing a specific outfit or show a derpy situation. This is the equivalent of posting an image to like Facebook.

ACTION | Denotes something is happening face to face. These are your characters having a conversation in front of each other. Or jogging together or whatever. Any communication made without the use of the Alvarium falls under action.

DO TAKE NOTE THAT POSTS CAN BE 'ACCIDENTAL'

Also please, TAG YOUR POSTS with Your Character's Name, and the Location if posting to the main comm.

Basic Refrence

How do I join communities? Add as friends?

Go to the profile page of the community you wish to add. You'll see that portion, with the words. If you wish to join community click here. Click it. Joining a community enables you to POST to a community (usually) and let you read 'Friends Locked' - updates. The icon with the 'Plus sign' Lets you add the user to your friends list.

The other person has to FRIEND YOU BACK, so you can view their protected entries.

How do I RP with people?

Roleplay on this format is pretty simple. You either update to your journal, update to the community or comment on other people's posts. Scribbld let's you use HTML when posting so you have a lot of leeway with how the posts look and feel. This can help emphasize a lot of things when you're roleplaying so that makes things really interesting.

If you don't know how to work HTML, use RICH TEXT mode.

How do I post images?

In HTML mode, just use:

Or again if you're in rich text, just click the image icon (highlighted in blue). Upload the image somewhere like Imgur, TinyPic or Photobucket and paste the direct link there.

How do I add pretty icons?

On the sidebar/navigation thing on the main page. It's under Edit - userpics.

Simply select the file, add some keywords and save.

JSYK, the icons can be animated!

How do I make Read-More's? Or LiveJournal Cuts?

Read-More's are useful, when the text is getting too long. Or it's something pretty graphic. Or it's image spam.

ON HTML MODE

Paste this at the start of your text that you want to be concealed on the read-more:

Paste this at the end of the text hidden by the read-more.

For RIch-Text Mode.

How do I refer to a user?

ON HTML

Shows up on sites as [info]chairman - replace chairman with username of choice. The same code also works with communities.

How do I change my journal's layout?

- On the Navigation/Sidebar go to Customize
- Switch to S2.
- In Select a New Theme, simply click: ALL and choose a theme.
- Clicking Customize your Theme, and Changing Your Page Set-Up Help you fix the page to your liking even further.

There's a LiveJournal Theme I like, how do I put it here?

Go to CUSTOMIZE JOURNAL. You must be switched over to S2 for this to work.

Scroll down a bit until you see the words DEVELOPER AREA

Under Advanced Options, go to YOUR LAYERS

Under CREATE TOP-LEVEL LAYER, go to where it says, TYPE, and select LAYOUT. then click CREATE. You will now see a new layer called 'NONE", hit "EDIT"

Go get the layer codes from this website. And paste it in there.

Hit "Save and Compile" on the top. LET THE PAGE REFRESH BEFORE YOU EXIT.

Go Back to CUSTOMIZE, and a tab called YOUR CUSTOM LAYERS should show up. Click and press apply theme.

There are a bunch of places to get layouts on LiveJournal and InsaneJournal.

Personally going to recommend: mintyapple as there's a lot of stunning layouts there.

How do I set the post to the top of my Journal/Make a Sticky?

When you make a new entry, hit 'edit', next to the date.

Put the year to some random year far in the future. (Like 2050 or something). And click: DATE OUT OF ORDER. If you don't - scribbld is going to be difficult whenever you try to post something!

How do I disable custom comment pages?

A lot of layouts use custom comment pages - which aren't always flattering to the eyes. Thankfully, there's an easy way to Disable this. In the Customize Menu, go to Customize your theme.

Go to DISPLAY - And under Presentation; there will be an option called: 'Disable customized comment pages for your journal'. Change this to 'YES'.

If you have any questions just ask!
