Jenny had been worried sick, and that was putting it entirely lightly. Sera never went more than a couple of hours without answering a text for her, so twenty four hours, and then forty eight hours and counting was far too long for her to wait. Her phone was on, ringing, which was the worst part. She had tried to be calm and just carry on with her Christmas, which had actually been quite amazing in all honesty, but she just couldn't keep the brunette off of her mind. It just wasn't Christmas if she wasn't sharing it with her at least a little bit. She didn't even know what the other girl's parents had given her, there had been talk of cars but she was excited to see the actual outcome of the day.
The lack of conversation and communication was worrying though, very out of character for the normally prompt and to the point Sera. She wasn't late or absent without an explanation, and as far as Jenny was concerned, not bothering with answering her messages for several days was just as much of a deviation from organization as any of the rest. Sera's inbox probably had about a hundred messages built from her before the blonde finally gave in to her worrying and got dressed to leave and head for the Floo station. Stepping out of the fireplace in the Donnelly living room was almost eerie, there as a definite quiet settled over the home, and it made Jenny uncomfortable almost as soon as she arrived. It was dead silent, and as she took a closer look around the room, it even looked sort of abandoned. There was unopened presents still under the tree, and the place looked even more immaculately clean than Madeline usually kept it, as if she had been tending and tidying more neurotically than ever before. Already, Jenny didn't like the vibe she was getting from the house. Something about the usual small country house charm was gone. Making her way cautiously out of the living room and into the hallway, she glanced to the kitchen, which she found empty. If Sera was even home, she was probably upstairs, and so Jenny began to make her way up there. It was still quiet, even as she shuffled along the hall until she reached Sera's door. Every single door up these was shut and closed, and it struck her as odd. Usually at least one of the twins had their door cracked with some sort of music or something. Maybe no one was home after all, perhaps they had all made an impromptu trip to Paris to see their grandparents or something and just lost their cell service, but Jenny just couldn't convince herself to leave until she knew. What if they were all dead or something? It was deserted enough, and it was starting to creep her out like a good mystery book. If she cracked a bedroom door and saw anybody laying around motionless, she was pretty sure she would lose her mind. Just pushing herself closer to Sera's door instead, she just gave her knuckles a quick tap on the wood before pushing it open and letting herself in, glad to find it was unlocked. Seeing Sera sitting on the floor, she was first struck by how glad she was to see that the younger girl okay, and then she noticed how distressed she looked just a moment later. "You had me so worried!" she huffed, wasting no time in moving over and dropping down on the floor beside the brunette. "What's happened? Are you okay?" she asked more gently a moment later, reaching over and pushing some of Sera's hair behind her ear.
Sera looked over at Jenny for a split second but quickly had to look away, jerking her head away slightly when her girlfriend pushed her hair back. For a few minutes she really couldn't do anything but stare at the floor. She could feel her eyes start to swell up, and quickly looked a way reaching with the sleeve of her sweater to wipe her eyes and dab the tears from her cheek.
She wasn't really all that surprised to see the blonde, she knew she couldn't just keep ignoring her and expect her not to show up eventually. As hard as it would be to do, she had to just do it. There really wasn't an easy way to go about it. They couldn't see each other. She couldn't be tempted. No more studying together, or sleep overs, or picnics. She had to just end things entirely it'd be too hard otherwise. When Sera finally spoke, she still didn't look over at the blond. She couldn't. She'd break. Worse then she already was. She reached up to wipe her eyes again, this time with the back of her hand. "No I'm not okay. Nothing is okay. I can't do this anymore. I love you but I can't."
Jenny knew something was terribly wrong almost as soon as Sera flinched slightly from her touch. Like she was poison or something, which was exactly how the brunette was looking at her too, when she chanced a glance. She felt suddenly very unwelcome and uncomfortable for the first time in the other girl's house, and she found that she didn't care for the sensation at all.
Her brow furrowed slightly in confusion, she looked at Sera closely as she spoke, trying her best to hide the way the other girl's words caught her off guard. "What?" she repeatedly simply. She couldn't be serious, this couldn't be them. She couldn't be talking about them all of a sudden, when everything had been fine forever. Or, at least, it felt like forever. She couldn't really recall the last time they had fought. "Can't do what? Sera, what the fu-- heck happened? Just tell me, baby, we'll fix it. You don't mean that, right?"
"This. Us. I'm so sorry Jen." The brunette managed, covering her face with her hands completely and still not turning in Jenny's direction.
Before Jenny could speak she turned to her suddenly, she could feel the tears rushing again the moment she looked at her, even she couldn't look her in the eyes. She reached out and took Jenny's hand in hers, part of her wanted to tell her she just didn't love her anymore and end it at that. It'd be easier that way. If Jenny hated her. She couldn't do it though. She finally looked up into Jenny's blue eyes, taking a deep breath before she spoke. As hard as it was. "Listen Jen, Dad threw Tatum out. She came out to him, I told you she was gay by the way." She couldn't help but smirk a bit at that but continued on. "Like he hates her and if she can't change she's not welcome back. He's gonna hate me too Jen. He already would if he knew." She stood up suddenly looking nervous and glanced out the window towards the driveway just to make sure his police car still wasn't there.
Tensing up as Sera spoke, Jenny let the words settle in and felt her worry turning to panic. She reached out to touch the younger girl's shoulders as she held her face in her hands, but the blonde was taken back as her girlfriend looked up at her with tears in her eyes. "Baby," she began shakily, finding it exceptionally hard to meet the brunette's gaze.
She could hardly believe what the younger girl was telling her, feeling her own eyes welling up with tears as she realized what she was actually saying. Tatum was out, and now she was out as in on the street. She had known that Sera's dad was a lot more of a hard ass than her own laid back hippie father, but she had never imagined it would go this bad. Tatum always acted like it was, but Tatum always overreacted, didn't she? It couldn't be happening. "N-No," she finally breathed, deciding that it had to be some sort of sick joke. It couldn't be happening, and Sera couldn't be breaking up with her, no matter what it sounded like. "He's your dad, he c-couldn't-- he can't," the blonde rambled, squeezing Sera's hands in her own and looking at her desperately. "He'll l-let her come home, won't he? Won't he have to let her? It's.. this is her house! You're his children!"
Sera looked away again. Leaning in against her knees again, trying desperately to think of what to say next and regain herself abit. Out of the corner of her eye she could still see her phone blinking with texts. She wished more than ever then that she had just read them earlier, at least she'd of had a bit of time to prepare herself.
"Yess!" Sera sobbed, turning to look at the blond. She didn't bother to lift her head off her knees when she spoke. The younger girl wiped her eyes once again, but at this point she knew it was kind of pointless. She was a mess. She was pretty sure even Jenny hadn't seen her cried like this before. "He can! He did Jenny that's what I'm trying to say! You're right he's my dad. I don't want him to hate me. I love you but family comes first. Babe, I'm sorry." "You would do the same thing. I hate to say it but what if it came down to me and Ella? Family comes first right?"
There was really no way to gently take what the brunette was telling her, and Jenny was just barely managed to hold herself together, feeling a familiar sinking pain in her chest as she watched the younger girl sobbing in front of her. She was a mess, a complete mess, worse than Jenny had ever seen her. It wasn't as if Sera had never cried in front of her before, but never quite like this. She was hurting bad, and despite that, Jenny could still feel irritation bubbling up inside of her, tinging her hurt.
"Then he's no dad! He's no family! If he was a proper dad, then he wouldn't-- don't c-compare it, you can't compare this because Ella would never put me in a position like that. My father would never do that to me, he just-- Sera, please!" she burst out, motioning desperately with her hands as she spoke, watching the other girl closely. "You don't have to afraid of him," she finished dejectedly. "I know you.. I know he's your dad, I know you love your family, but baby you have to understand like.. that's not what a dad should do. No matter what, or what you do, he should.. he should love you. I do think family comes first, but only when your family isn't.. manipulating you with fear! And that's exactly what he's doing to you! He doesn't even know it, but he-- he is, it's not fair. Just come with me, please?" she pleaded, looking at Sera seriously. "Come with me and w-we'll tell my mom everything and explain it all and we'll.. do something. You don't need him. Not if he can't accept who you are! You're so-- you're so you, you can't let someone take away your identity. Isn't that what we're always saying? Isn't that what it's all about?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
