Mackenzie had decided to back off over lunch and recuperate, Tatum had been shutting her down at every opportunity. She had even ran away from her when everyone had crowded around the picnic table for lunch. Now she was sitting next to Sera, shooting glances down the table at Tatum as they ate. She was just a little discouraged, she had been really nice to the girl all morning. There hadn't even been any crude comments or teasing.
She took a bite out of her apple and glanced over at Sera who was sitting to her left. She felt pathetic having to ask Sera constantly for advice on how to win over her sister, she was the mother fucking Mack Daddy. She shouldn't have to ask some kid for advice, but here she was once again ready to pick the younger girl's brain for anything that might get her an in. "So, what the hell is up with your sister?" She asked, taking a more violent bite out of her apple. She shot another glance down the table at Tatum and caught her glaring in her direction. Winking at her and giving her a large smile, she gave the girl a small wave. "I've been the perfect gentlemen all day and she's acting like I just walked up to her and stuck my hand down her pants."
Sera couldn't believe how Tatum was acting, it wasn't exactly how she hoped the day would go but there was still time to turn it around, in her opinion. The brunette reached into the basket Jenny had packed and pulled out another half of sandwich, glaring down the table at Tatum around the basket as she did.
Mack was sitting to her right, and Jenny was to her left busy talking to Ella and Hendrix. She was trying really hard to think of something to say to Mackenzie, some kind of words of encouragement but she was kind of at a loss. She turned quickly to face Mack, turning her back slightly in Tatum's direction. "I have no idea, I think she's just being a bitch on purpose, to ruin my day or something." Seeing Mack wink at Tatum she turned and looked at Tatum's expression and couldn't help but giggle, covering her hands over her mouth to try and hide it. "I know you have, you haven't even made that many dirty jokes or anything, total gentleman. She's probably just afraid to be nice to you because she wishes you would do that." Sera laughed, turning and smirking at her sister again and back to Mack.
Mackenzie just smirked smugly at Sera's words, it made her feel a little bit better. "She's got that stick shoved pretty far up her ass," She took another bite of her apple and glanced up again at Tatum. She was almost positive that she saw the girl's eyes flick in her direction again, but it wasn't as long as before. "Correct me if I'm wrong dear little sister, but in your experience, shouldn't someone who wishes that someone would do that be nice to the person they want to do that with?"
Mackenzie took a drink of the water she had grabbed and looked back to Sera. "I'm kinda at a loss for what to do here kid," she continued, frowning slightly. "I don't know how much longer I can be nice if she's going to act like a little brat." She spoke the last four word loudly, knowing that Tatum could hear her. If the kid was really that upset that she was here, and was going to be rude to her, she might as well be rude back. "It's immature," she finished, regarding her apple core for a second before chucking it over everyone's head.
"Not if that someone doesn't want to admit it or want anyone to know. I think she thinks if she's nice to you.." She shot her sister another quick look. "..people will think she must be gay too." She informed her, thinking for a second. "Or maybe she knows if she's nice to you she won't be able to resist the old Mack charm." She smiled at her friend, nudging her in the shoulder slightly. "It's a defense if you ask me."
"Your absolutely right she is acting like a complete brat. How much is it to ask for her to just act like an adult for one day." The brunette replied grumpily. "Maybe you should try that, be mean to her back see how she likes it. You never know.." The younger girl continued. "Maybe you'll get through her and she'll stop being a bitch and actually talk to you." Being nice obviously wasn't working, even still Sera knew it wasn't the best advice but it was worth a try.
The blonde girl laughed when Sera nudged her, it did make her feel better to think that Tatum was just being rude to her to defend her own feelings. "There aren't many girl's who can resist the Dubinsky charm," She agreed with a smirk, shoot another look down the table at the redhead. "I am pretty fuckin' charming when I wanna be. If anyone could resist it though, it would be your sister." She frowned a little bit, "I thought she was going to light those flowers I gave her on fire earlier she looked so mad."
Mackenzie shrugged half heartedly, it was a decent idea she supposed. It wasn't like being nice was getting her anywhere. Being rude to Tatum in return could cause the girl to hate her even more than she actually did however, Mackenzie felt like there was really no way she could win. "The lady doth protests too much me thinks," She said, resting her chin in her hand. "You think she'll ever admit it to herself? Or just be extremely straight her whole life?"
"You're totally charming I wouldn't take it personally." She smiled, leaning her head on Mack's shoulder. "I've seen you get I don't know how many girls over the years. It probably would have even worked on me if I wasn't with Hunter first, and you weren't, you know madly in love with my sister." She looked up at her friend again laughing and pointing behind her back at Tatum without turning to look at the redhead.
"I think she'll have to at some point. Look at her, she's too gay not to." The brunette smirked pointing behind her back again. "She'll only be able to fake it so long, right? That's probably why Colin broke up with her." She still didn't actually know what happened, her attempt to find out on Wednesday didn't really go as planned.
Mackenzie smiled as well as Sera leaned on her shoulder, it had really been great that the younger girl had stayed friends with the two blondes after she broke up with Hunter. For all the grief that they gave the younger girl, she was a good friend to both of them, and if Mack was feeling sappy, she might admit that she was glad to have Sera as a friend. "You mean I missed my chance to have a piece of the queen nerd?" She asked, trying her best to appear upset. She had always figured that Sera had a little crush on her, and enjoyed flirting with the girl just to get a rise out of her. "The door is always open for you little sister," She smirked, winking at the younger girl. "And I am not in love with your sister. Love is a big word kiddo, I'm simply interested is all."
Glancing up to look at the redhead again as Sera pointed at her, she studied the girl curiously. She really hadn't given much thought to why Colin had broken up with the girl, she had just been excited that it had happened at all. The redhead totally sent Mackenzie's gaydar through the roof, and the girl's denial was blatantly obvious. "I suppose you're right kid," She agreed after a few more moments of staring at Tatum. "Did she ever tell you what happened between her and The Colin? I'm dying to know what split up the dream team."
The younger girl couldn't help but laugh, leaning on Mack again and grinning up at her. She loved teasing the older blond, sometimes straight up flirting with her but it was just how they always were. "You're not like heart broken or anything are you?" She joked sticking her tongue out at the blond as she leaned away from her, when the older girl teased her about about the door always being open. "I'm sure it is." She added sarcastically, still laughing. "I always knew you'd wait for me." She added, giving her friend a soft push in the leg.
"I think you are." She teased, looking at Mack a bit more serious. "Maybe loves kinda strong but I've seen you interested plenty of times before and you didn't do anything like this. I don't know maybe you just wanted to spend the day with me or something but she's treating you like garbage and you're still sticking around." She glanced down the table again at Tatum who was still busy sulking over her food then back at Mack, "just saying." She added quietly. Sera knew as soon as she brought up Colin, Mack would probably want to know what happened. Unfortunately for both of them though Tatum still wasn't really talking. "No she still won't say a word." Sera huffed, pretty disappointed she hadn't been able to find out more. "Oh get this though,I got this much. Apparently they broke up like a while ago, like during summer vacation before your party and everything. And then I guess she just pretended nothing happened cause I never heard a word of it till parents weekend."
Mackenzie tried not to grin as she pouted at Sera, doing her best to look as broken as possible. "I'm incredibly heart broken," She said, sniffing a little for emphasis. "All of these wasted years little sister, and now you have a wonderful wife! I'll just forever be alone thinking about what could have been, and what never was!" She leaned her head back dramatically, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead with her eyes closed. She couldn't help but let the small grin spread across her face though, and soon she was laughing, unable to keep up her seriousness any longer.
Sera's words sobered her up quickly though, and she frowned, biting her bottom lip as she stared at the table. She really couldn't shoot down anything that Sera had said to her, and she hated the fact that the girl's logic was so solid. "Maybe," she said quietly, picking absently at some loose skin on her finger. Tatum was still too much of a mystery, but she couldn't deny that she was definitely more than just a little bit interested in the girl. "I hate that you're always so damn logical," she said with a small laugh. "Know it all." She was glad for the subject change, even if Sera had no idea what had split Colin and Tatum up. She was surprised to find out that that had broken up over the summer, it made her even more suspicious of the younger girl though. Why pretend to still be with Colin if she wasn't trying to cover something up? "Huh," she mused, glancing down the table at Tatum again and studying her with an interested look. "Maybe ickle Collie-kins got tired of being a beard! Or he found himself a nice boy to date and decided to let his big gay secret out. I'm sort of surprised she kept up the charade for so long, what's the point?"
"I'll take those as compliments." The younger girl grinned looking at Mack. She definitely couldn't argue with the older girl, she actually quite enjoyed acting like a know it all.
She couldn't help but laugh quite loudly at Mack's suggestions as to what might have happened. She was pretty sure the blond was right though. She turned and looked at Tatum again, still clearly laughing. "Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines." Sera thought for a moment, looking was bit more serious but she still couldn't help an occasional smirk. She was pretty sure she knew what the point was but she could be wrong, it just seemed like the only thing that made sense really. "I think it was just easy with him, so it was hard to give up. If you're a girl who doesn't really want a boyfriend, Colin really couldn't be anymore perfect, right? Probably why she was with him so long too actually." She couldn't help but giggle a little. "She only had to see him when she wanted and was forbidden to tell him anything about where she actually is ninety percent if the time." The younger reached into the basket that Jenny backed again and pulled out a juice bottle. Unscrewing the top she glanced down at Tatum again, and at Jenny and the others who were still busy eating and talking away. "It's pretty genius actually, I have to admit, if I ever need a fake boyfriend to trick dad, he'll definitely be from home." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
