Traveling all the way to Seattle hadn't been Kenneth's idea of a good time, but he was certainly looking forward to having a good old fashioned run-in with Garrett and that stupid little human he insisted on shaking up with. Maybe Varick would even be there, if the man hadn't just offed himself. Losing a mate was so hard and boo hoo hoo, the man had probably just given up. Kenneth rolled his eyes in disgust at that thought. No way he would ever have a mate. No way he would ever give himself to someone so completely.

He'd been stalking the territory for most of that afternoon, staying downwind and trying to avoid any surprise encounters. He'd expected for Garrett to know the moment he stepped foot onto his land, but the longer he was there, the more Kenneth realized that Garrett wasn't around. But he could sense Varick and the leftover fox. How interesting and fortunate that he could finish what he'd started back when Joseph had taken over the pack.

Waiting until Varick was upstairs on what he could only assume was an important business call, Kenneth snuck into the house and into the kitchen where Shannon was. Slipping up behind him, he wrapped his hand around his mouth and whispered into his ear. "Guess who," he said with wicked satisfaction.

The two of them tumbled down the stairs, but Shannon was quick to get his balance back. When he had his paws beneath himself again, he snapped at Kenneth, though the second the wolf's jaws clamped around his paw, a loud whine mixed with a cry of pain that sounded like an awkward howl escaped him. He desperately tried to break free, squirming and biting at Kenneth's snout, and really he was only causing himself more damage but he didn't know any better. When Varick jumped in and Shannon was suddenly released, he fell down a few steps before he latched his teeth into Kenneth's underbelly. His jaws weren't quite as powerful as a wolves jaw, but he could do his own damage in his own right, and he was working on getting as much damage in as possible.

Kenneth was not expecting such ferocity from Shannon, or Varick for that matter. He could feel the wolf's jaws snap hard at his neck. But what was worse was the feeling of the fox tearing at his vulnerable gut. He only liked a certain amount of pain when he knew he was winning, but he was getting the feeling that this might not be going in his favor.

With a roar of anger, he caught hold of Varick's shoulder and ripped into it, slashing through fur and flesh. Varick yelped and dropped back, blood smearing across his pale fur.

When Shannon heard Varick yelp, he growled and latched onto Kenneth's underbelly even more, shaking his head to tear through the flesh. He used his claws to scratch and dig in as much as possible, determined to defend not only himself, but Varick as well.

The pain nearly overwhelmed Varick. He knew that it was right down to the bone. Kenneth knew just how to tear flesh, he was an expert at it. But soon enough Varick gathered his wits back about him, terrified that Shannon wasn't going to be able to fend Kenneth off alone. He knew that he had to kill the wolf, that was their only choice.

Kenneth could hardly get at Shannon beneath him. He tumbled down the rest of the stairs, trying to knock Shannon away from his tender stomach. He could feel the skin tearing at the treatment of those sharp, persistent little teeth. When he finally caught hold of the fluffy tail, he tore at its fur, trying to dislodge the creature from him. But Kenneth didn't have time. Varick lunged down the stairs and pounced on him, tearing relentlessly into his throat. Kenneth didn't even have time to gurgle a final yelp before blood overwhelmed his lungs and his thrashing eased. Varick kept tearing until he was sure the wolf was dead and then let out a mournful howl.

Even though Kenneth was a bad person, Varick's wolf still mourned the fact that he'd taken a life. It ached, but he knew he had to do it and he went to Shannon, pushing his bloodied nose against the fox's side.

When Kenneth grabbed a hold of his tail and pulled back, he ripped through fur and skin, causing it to bleed. Shannon let out a yelp and he tries to squirm away. When Varick jumped back in, Shannon fell down the steps and laid on his side. He was whimpering and breathing hard, and he turned his head to lick at Varick's ear as the wolf came over to him.

Kenneth felt the last moments of consciousness slip from him. It was clear to him in those last few breaths that he had grossly underestimated both Varick and Shannon. When his body finally laid still, Varick could almost feel the release and he whined as he drew his tongue over Shannon's leg, feeling where it had been bitten.

They'd kept each other safe, or as safe as possible. He couldn't stop nuzzling in against the other, his whimpers quieting quickly once he assured himself that Shannon was all right.

Shannon was absolutely exhausted, and he finally let himself feel it once he realized that they were safe and that Kenneth was no longer a thread. He lifted his head and licked gently at the wounds that mangled Varick's flank, trying to clean the blood from them before he put his head back down and closed his eyes. Shifting, for him, had always been easy, and despite his exhaustion he felt the need to shift back into his human form so that he could call Kingston for help. He was still worried about Varick's injuries, and he wanted someone who could help the both of them. It took a lot more pushing than it ever had before, but he managed to get his body to shift back, and once he was back into his human form he laid still and clutched his injured arm against his chest. Shifting back had helped some, but Kenneth had really done some damage. After a moment he got up and managed to get back up the stairs to call Kingston, and once the wolf assured him that he was on his way with help, Shannon grabbed a blanket to go back down to where Varick was so that he could curl up on the floor next to the blonde wolf.

Varick did not want to shift back. He wanted to keep consciousness, knowing that staying awake might be better for his health. He'd needed a longer breather than Shannon, and he hadn't moved a muscle the whole time the fox had been gone. He had, however, whined for him to come back, terrified of letting him out of his sight.

Settling back down when Shannon returned, Varick turned his nose toward the younger man and lapped at his hands before drifting away. Sleep hit him hard, unable to keep from passing out from the loss of blood. Fortunately, that kicked his body into gear and he shifted slowly back into human form.

When Shannon had called, Kingston immediately felt panicked, but when the fox assured him that Kenneth was dead he calmed down. But Varick and Shannon were injured, and they sounded like they both needed care from someone who wa knowledgable when it came to the medical practice. Naturally, Pirate had come to mind, and even though Kingston didn't really know the other wolf that well he had no trouble asking him to come along. He hadn't bargained on Vance wanting to come, and he left the decision up to Pirate since he and Vance appeared to be mates - or very well on their way to it.

Vance hadn't at all been willing to take no for an answer. He wanted to help, but also he wanted to see for himself that Kenneth was really dead. He felt like he had to, and he wished that Wendell could have the same luxury when it came to Joseph but unfortunately that wasn't an option for the older wolf. So after telling Pirate why he wanted to go, he settled into the back of Kingston's truck and they were on their way.

Garrett lived on the outskirts of Seattle, and Cold Water wasn't too far from the city, so luckily the drive didn't take long. Especially with Kingston's driving. Once they arrived to the house, Kingston didn't waste any time parking an heading inside. He immediately went over to blanket where both Shannon and Varick were, but he kept his eye on Kenneth's body, just to make sure the wolf really was dead.

"Varick..." he said softly as he knelt down and gently touched the side of the other man's cheek.

The power in Kingston called out easily to Varick and comforted him instantly. In the time it had taken them to get there, his arm was already mending. Healing wasn't instant, but this kind of wound on a human would have easily bled the individual out. Varick had stopped bleeding awhile ago.

Pirate had not wanted to let Vance come. If Kenneth had been mistaken for dead, then he was sure Vance would set the lunatic off. He didn't want the man to get his hands on the boy again. But he also understood the need to see the man offed. Examining the area, he determined that Varick was at the most risk and he knelt by him, examining the wound. "Keep that arm still until I can get to it," he advised Shannon gruffly.

Kingston frowned, upset that he hadn't been there, but thankful that Varick and Shannon had managed to defend one another. He smoothed a hand gently over Varick's hair before he reached over to do the same to Shannon. The fox seemed a little out of it, but he nodded his head a little bit at Pirate's words.

"I'll go get some clean towels," Kingston said before he got up to go upstairs. He paused at Kenneth's body for a moment and nudged it with his foot, and when he seemed satisfied he went upstairs. Vance was sort of staring at Kenneth's body, and while it was a little uncomfortable yet satisfying, it was sad, too.

"Can I do anything?" he asked Pirate after a moment.

Pirate was busy making sure that the wound was clean before he wrapped it up quickly. There would be no need for stitches and with wolves they frequently just got in the way. When he was done with that, he moved on to Shannon. The pain was probably doing a number on his brain, and Pirate worked quickly to tug the arm so that the bones were straight. He didn't bother warning the poor thing because he knew it would be excruciating and the quicker they got it over with the better. Pirate was strong and he held the arm in place, even if Shannon struggled.

He looked over at Vance, watching him with Kenneth. He wished the man had been killed in human form so he knew what he'd looked like. The scent of him was angering, as if Pirate's inner instincts told him that this had been a bad creature that fed off of pain and misery. "You can help this one off the floor and to one of the couches in the living room. He should sit up for awhile." He was talking about Varick.

When Pirate tugged his arm to straighten it out, Shannon let out a loud cry of pain. He hadn't at all been prepared for it, but that was probably for the best. He closed his eyes and drew in a few deep breaths as the pain started to subside to a throb.

Vance tore his gaze away from Kenneth and he nodded his head before he went over to Varick. He knelt down beside the other wolf and slipped an am around him so that he could help him up, and he helped him over to the couch.

"If you need to stop for a minute just let me know," he said softly as he guided Varick.

Kingston came back down and disappeared into the kitchen before he came out with a large both of warm water so that he could help clean the blood off of Shannon. Varick would need some cleaning up, too.

Pirate was never terribly comforting, but he was efficient in his work. He made a makeshift brace for Shannon's arm and then got him gingerly to his feet. "It seems like you might have a bit of a bump on your head as well. Did you all fall down the stairs? I know you probably want to sleep, but you're both going to need to stay awake for an hour or two just to be sure."

Varick frowned, almost resisting the help until he realized that he couldn't do it on his own. He was having a hard time trusting other wolves, especially since his most of his pack had betrayed him so profoundly. And he didn't know that this boy was one of those who'd been kidnapped. When he finally made it to the couch, he looked at Vance. "Who are you?"

Kingston had brought down a pair of pajama pants for both Shannon and Varick. Once Pirate had the fox on his feet, he helped him into the pants, and then led him over towards the couch so that he could sit with Varick.

"Thank you," Shannon managed to mumble to Pirate.

Vance helped Varick settle down onto the couch, and then he straightened back up to look down at the older wolf.

"My name's Vance," he answered softly.

"He's one of the wolves that Joseph took from the Cold Water pack," Kingston added quietly as he moved to help Shannon sit, and then he started ot help Varick into his pajama pants.

Varick insisted on at least getting his pajama pants on by himself. His focus was mostly on Shannon, eyes flicking over in his direction as everything went on around him. But the notion that Vance had been one of the taken caught his attention. "I'm sorry that you were drug into this." But he was thankful that Hunter had killed Joseph because none of them had had the ability to do so just yet. In a few years, Kingston would have grown into it, but not as immediate as the need was.

Pirate was busy putting his things away. Bandaging up werewolves was always easier than humans. His job as an EMT had taught him just how fragile they were by comparison. Finally, he went to examine Kenneth's body, cleaning up some of the blood. "What are we going to do with him?" He asked from the foyer where the body lay.

"Don't be, it wasn't your fault," Vance said simply before he turned his attenion over to Pirate. He watched the other wolf carefully as he knelt beside Kenneth's body, and he was quiet.

"I'll probably bury him in the woods out back," Kingston answered as he straightened up.

Shannon desperately wanted to go to sleep, and he closed his eyes as he cradled his injured arm to his chest. It throbbed something awful, and he was just waiting for the aching to subside.
