To Shiloh
Bernadette didn't often go searching for other people. Other people came to her. But tonight she was feeling particularly proactive and she whisked through the house, poking her head into every room looking for Shiloh. She missed his face and she missed his voice. He was rapidly becoming her favorite, a position that held both advantages and disadvantages. Thanks to him, she had long since forgotten the two little half-demons who had left her before she'd truly been through with them.

"Shiloh?" she called out in a sing-song voice as she traveled down one of the long halls of the mansion. "Shiiiiiloh." She amused herself a great deal and his name was followed by the sound of her laugh. She trailed the tips of her fingers along the crisp white beadboard until she came to a doorway. Swinging into the room, she scanned it and then let out a frustrated little sigh when she saw that it was empty. And so she continued on her way, still calling out his name.

"So do you want to be a vampire or do you like being human?" He glanced behind him and then beckoned for Shiloh to follow him to an out of the way table. There was no need for them to stand up the whole time Bernie was gone, not knowing how long the woman would be. Morris had decided to stay with the boy until she came back, curious about him and feeling especially lonely now that Shiloh had pointed out that fact.

"I like being human," Shiloh said as he followed after Morris. Once they had a seat, he put his chin in his hand and peered over at the other man. "I don't want to be a vampire." Especially because he got the feeling that he wouldn't be as precious to Bernedette if he were one, and he liked being held dear to her. "She said that you're a necromancer," and Morris had indicated that was true, based on things he'd said. "I didn't think those were real. But I guess that's silly since I know vampires are." And shifters, too.

"Does that creep you out?" He assumed that it did because everytime someone had had the opportunity to discover his 'talent,' they'd been wholly freaked out. Though he'd never interacted with a human who was versed in the supernatural world. It bothered him that he was actually getting his hopes up that maybe Shiloh wouldn't be grossed out. He wouldn't show it though. It was far easier to push people away before he started to like them. "It would if you saw it."

Shiloh shook his head a little bit. He lived with vampires, after all. He let them feed from him. A necromancer was anything but gross or creepy to him, and in fact, he was intrigued. There was something about Morris that Shiloh liked very much, and he was desperately trying to put his finger on it. He knew that he was attracted to the older man, but he was trying to figure out if it was just physical or something else, too.

"It doesn't," he replied. "And I don't think it would creep me out. You should see some of the things I paint. I'm sure lots of people would find some of my art creepy."

"You paint?" he perked with more interest. Not that he wasn't interested before, but each tidbit of information about the boy was alluring to him. "What sorts of things?" He wanted to know and he leaned forward a little. He found himself thinking it would be kind of great if Bernadette didn't come back and then he'd have to help Shiloh. That would give him a good excuse to spend more time with him.

"All kinds of things, but I paint about death a lot," Shiloh answered as he spread his fingers out against the table top and lowered his eyes to focus on them. He was surrounded by death. Growing up he'd lost all of his grandparents, and his mother, and now he lived with vampires. "My father always said I was very macabre."

Morris couldn't hide his surprise. "You don't seem at all macabre. You're too pretty to be dark." As if his delicate looks precluded him from being included with the truly gory creatures. Even vampires were unattractive in many respects, their cold skin, their dead eyes. Morris couldn't dare to hope that he'd actually met someone who could look past the truth of his being. "Sometimes, I'll wake up in the middle of the night with a corpse at the foot of my bed. Sometimes, my apartment smells so bad I have to leave and have it fumegated. It's miserable. I think your paintings are probably far prettier than the reality of decay."

Shiloh bent his elbow and propped his chin up in the palm of his hand as he nibbled at his lower lip. He was quiet as he listened to Morris, and after a moment he tipped his head to the side a little bit.

"There isn't a way for you to control it? It just... happens?" he asked softly. He got the feeling that maybe Morris tried to just block that part of himself off, and maybe if he didn't, if he learned how to control it... Maybe it would be different.

"I can make it happen, but it's harder to keep it from happening. I just avoid it, work around it." He shrugged and shook his head. Since he'd never spent much time with others of his kind he didn't know the methods to control it. His mother was a witch but she'd left him with his grandfather early on in his life, unable to handle the stress of a child. She told him to seek out a witch to help him when he got older, but he'd never done so, not wanting to face it. Still, he'd ended up in Coldwater, surrounded by so many supernatural things.

"Was she lying about your blood pressure?" He asked suddenly. "Did I make it go up?"

"You should learn to control it," Shiloh suggested, "Maybe you wouldn't wakeup to corpses at your bed. Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about things like that," he added. At Morris's question, though, he felt his cheeks heat up and he wet his lips nervously. "She wasn't lying. You make me nervous," he said honesly as he lowered his gaze to the table top. "I was telling her that I liked the way you looked."

"Really?" He couldn't imagine someone like Shiloh liking the way he looked. "Are you gay?" It was an honest question, nothing derrogatory in his tone. If Morris wanted to know something, he'd usually just ask. He very much wanted to know that information about Shiloh because he could feel his own blood pressure rise at the way Shiloh's cheeks went pink.

At that particular question, Shiloh felt that rush of heat spread down along the back of his neck and he kept his gaze lowered to the table top while he nodded his head a little bit. He'd always been attracted to men, especially types like Morris. Shiloh hadn't had too much experience sexually, just the one time with Elgyn, and that had been... Terrifying and oddly satisfying. Sometimes he thought he wouldn't mind being with Lewis, but he was too shy to even think about persuing such a thing.

Morris nodded, satisfied with just the simple, barely there nod. "You look like you might implode now," he said with a serious aire. It was cute, he had to at least admit that to himself. "I've never met anyone like you. I live in Coldwater, you know. I'd like to run into you again." Casual sounding, he made sure to keep it from sounding like he was asking Shiloh out on a date.

Shiloh's heartrate picked up, and he was certain that where ever Bernie was, she knew it. He blinked a few times before he finally lifted his gaze back up to look over at Morris, and he couldn't help but feel anxious and surprised that the man wanted to see him again.

"I'd like to see you again, too," he said after a moment. "Maybe you can give me your phone number, or... Something?"

Morris cracked a very rare smile that was more mischievous than anything. "You could always call 911. More than likely I'll be one of the people who shows up." That was kind of a phone number, right? It wasn't that he was trying to avoid giving Shiloh his number, he just took the opportunity to indulge in his sparse playful side. After a second to see how Shiloh would react, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a receipt from Starbucks and a pen. His handwriting was just this side of atrocious, but the numbers could be made out. He slid it across the table toward the other.

At that, Shiloh arched a brow and looked a bit perplexed. It took him a moment to figure out what that statement meant, and as he took the piece of paper from Morris to tuck it away into his pocket he cocked his head to the side curiously.

"Are you a firefighter or... something?" he asked after a moment. Morris definitely had the body of a firefighter, well, the hot sexy young kind, anyway.

"An EMT," he said simply. "Fire kind of freaks me out actually." What he'd seen it do to the human body was enough to make him want to avoid it at all costs. People thought rotting was bad, burning was a million times worse looking. "Maybe I can give you mouth to mouth sometime." He took the chance and flipped the joke, but it fell obscenely flat and he cringed. "Yeah, you really need to forget I said that." It was obvious that he kept his humor hidden for a reason; it was never very successful and he was far from as smooth as he desperately wanted to appear. His veil was pretty thin.

An EMT. That was interesting, considering what Morris could do with the dead. Shiloh had to wonder if Morris's necromancy had anything to do with his choice of profession, and he was more than certain that it did.

At the attempt of the flirty joke, Shiloh smiled softly. Even if it had been poorly delivered, it still flustered him a bit and made his heart go just a touch bit faster.

"I would let you," he replied honestly, and a little bit shyly.

"Aw, I'm sure you would dear," Bernie spoke from behind Shiloh, lips suddenly against his ear as if she'd appeared out of nowhere. Morris hadn't been fast enough to catch her approach and her sudden appearance unnerved him a great deal. His eyes narrowed, wondering if she'd been waiting in the wings just to break the moment between them at an inopportune time.

Her body radiated warmth and her eyes were dilated, the blues of her irises eclipsed by her pupils. She usually didn't get quite so high from feeding, but there was a carefully concealed body in the alley behind the library, brutalized just enough to look like a murder victim. She was careful to leave no traces of herself behind and she was assured that the murder would go generally unacknowledged. She tilted her face toward Shiloh's neck and kissed him there as she breathed in his scent. It almost made her growl, she felt so alive just then.

Shiloh jumped a little, and his heart rate sped up. He turned his head to look at Bernie with a bashful smile before he turned his attention back to Morris. He was anxious to see Morris again, but he wanted time to process why.

"It was nice to meet you," he said as he tucked Morris's number away into his pocket. "I'll call you soon."

She all but tugged Shiloh away from the man. "Come," she whispered with a little laugh, hand wrapping tightly around the boy's hand. Morris kept his eyes on her, face breaking into a deep set frown. He didn't like the way she handled Shiloh, like a possession. He nodded a little at Shiloh's promise to call him, having the feeling that he shouldn't expect to hear from him again, but that was probably just his own negativity talking.

Bernie sheparded Shiloh away, walking with purpose toward the car. It would be best if they didn't linger at the library.

Shiloh got up and let Bernie tug him away, though he did glance back at Morris a few times. He was all aglow, completely happy, and felt as if he was on some sort of a hight. He'd never experienced a real crush before. It was exhilerating.

Once they were outside, he turned his gaze to Bernie and smiled. She looked lovely. It was probably twisted of him to think so, considering that he knew what she'd just done, but he couldn't help it. He adored Bernie to pieces.

"He asked if I belonged to anyone at the mansion, and I said you," he told her. Even though Mikhal brought him to the mansion, Shiloh felt a strong attachment to Bernadette. If he belonged to anyone, it was her.

"You do," she assured him with the utmost confidence. She didn't expect Mikhal would challenge her on that, but if he did she had every intention of putting him in his place. Shiloh was hers and he couldn't have come at a better time in her life. For a long while she felt as if she'd been losing Lewis to Elgyn. Once again, she couldn't fully compete with a man, and it grated on her. But she adored both Elgyn and Lewis, so she couldn't be entirely bitter. In a way, Elgyn was hers too--as much as he could be anyone's. Or at least she liked to think so.

"I'm glad that you said you belonged to me." She grinned and leaned forward to kiss his forehead before dropping her mouth down to kiss his cheek.

Shiloh smiled as he took a hold of Bernie's hand. There was something reassuring about hearing her say that he was hers, and it made his chest feel warm inside. It probably wasn't healthy, the level of attachment he had with the vampire, but he needed Bernie. He wasn't sure what he would do without her. She was like the mother he lost and missed, except he would never lose her, and never have to miss you.

"I love belonging to you," he told her as they approached the car, "Because I love you."

Maybe it was because she'd heard the story of Shiloh's mother and had felt the emotions surrounding the event washing off of him as he told it. But hearing that he loved her actually moved her in a way that hadn't happened in a long time. She'd always been the motherly sort, but she hadn't ever been able to bring herself to feel the emotions of motherhood. It was terrifying really, because the feelings took her back to a very dark night at the darkest time in her life. Her son, dead in her arms, barely a few minutes old, and the fact that she barely had time to mourn before she had to keep going.

She felt a well of tears rise up before she was able to force them back down and she pushed her fact against Shiloh's neck as her arms squeezed him just a bit too tight, unaware of their great strength.
